Someone tell the guy behind Knights of Unicron that this is the next thing they need to accomplish.

Heck, have Trypticon turn into a soundstage that compliments that set. Replace the radars with sound monitors, antennae with a drum kit, towers/turrets/missile launchers with laser lights, and ramps with barriers to stop the wanna-be groupies from harassing the fembots.

I just talked myself into this whole idea. Brb gonna go price out Knights of Unicron sets on ebay.

Love it!

What makes this idea using Trypticon as a stage for the KOU even better is that it's canon. One of the band's touring locations was indeed "Trypticon Dinobase".

Blitzwing appears to be a simple color swap. All his tan is now brown and all his purple is now magenta.

Astrotrain, however, it a much more complex color change. His black is now purple, except for where it's still black. His gray is now orange, except for where it's still gray. And his purple is now gray, except for the tips of his wings and his rear boosters being orange. Oy.

Blitzwing appears to be homaging G1 Duocon Flywheels, with a hint of G1 Thrust.

Looks like I was wrong about these. >:oP

Jokes aside and understanding that there is a small group of folks who want bizarre redecos, this is pretty dumb.

Astrotrain seems to be a random redeco. Maybe it's to see what kind of redeco we favor: (accidental) homages (Blitzwing) or new random colors (Astrotrain).

Like people who are into e-Hobby G1 redecos?

For now I'm viewing this as another of Hasbro's "experiments", like the Beast Hunters Simplified line. I'm eager to see how it pans out.

I love counterpunch's deadpan attitude. It made me giggle.

As for experiments, I thought the simplified beast hunteres experiment didnt go well, and yet the same place showed that there will be a whole new generations line dedicated to simplified figures. So much for targetting different age groups by completely different toylines.

If we can get simplified transformers in Generations, could we also get more complex transformers in RID?

I'm baffled that they screwed up the colors for Astrotrain and Blitzwing. They could have done the original G1 version to give everyone something different for reissues (especially since there has never been a reissue of Astrotrain in his original Hasbro G1 colors), or they could have done platinum paint jobs on them like the Predaking reissue a few years back, something, anything other than random paint schemes that don't currently have any precedent. Weird.

With some reprolabels Blitzwing looks like Shattered Glass Blitzwing. I don't know about Astrotrain, though.

They're not bad color schemes ... it's just not what I would have wanted for the first Hasbro reissue of Blitzwing and since we still haven't gotten a G1 colored non-NASA white version of Astrotrain yet, I would have preferred their original color schemes, and then an alternate color scheme for a limited run of some sort. It'll be interesting to see how these do.

I'll be the odd ball.
I never had either of these guys as a kid. In 30 years I have never acquired them. I'm not a hardcore G1 traditionalist. I am also finding I have so many classic-esq versions of so many characters that the odd ones really appeal to me. Out of all the upcoming G1 reisues, confirmed and rumored, this is the set I want most, and I've never had all the Dinobots either.

This all being said, I'm still super curious as to why they went with these decos. I'm starting to wonder if they are really meant for other markets (Asia, Central and South America, etc.), and them being released into ours is kind of an after thought.

I think they're neat. But I wonder if this set would be under such scrutiny if it were released under the "Year of the ____" banner.

That's a good point and I have an idea to the answer: NO. I really dont think they would be under any scrutiny. People would lament as much, but there would be no scrutiny. However, them being part of the same platinum reissue series that has the insecticons and the coneheads (and blaster and reflector which seemed to have unaltered color schemes) makes this really the odd man out. Big time.

If you squint your eyes, F'd Up Colors Astrotrain looks like Alpha Bravo.

Autobot color schemes? Yech. I try to stay positive here on the forums cuz I love Transformers and also don't wanna offend anybody but damn! Why Hasbro why? I would have been perfectly happy with an OG Astrotrain color scheme...
