Other way around: the cartoon and comics were faithful to the toy's transformation. Remember, in the first two years, toy molds first, cartoon and comics later. In Shockwave's case, google "Astro Magnum" :)

And it's completely logical Laserwave will be best the Masterpiece in existence.

That trend also happened with Beast Wars, RID and the unicron trilogy. To thepoint where the Cybertron transforming animations were nothing more than toy commercials.

Very pretty toy commercials admittedly. God I loved Cybertron.

(Although ironically the animation models often had engineering the toys didn't, most notably in the case of Leobreaker's Savage Claw Mode animation, which used a completely different model based on the prototype of the toy, complete with far more convincing claw mode.)

I'm all in for Shockwave and canceled my Quakewave preorder this morning.

This is what they want you to do. Price is made up as a purposeful overestimate to try and salvage some QW preorders since those are coming out very shortly (supposedly). I'll be very surprised if Shockwave runs more than $120 from an importer.

Thats smart Scotty. BBTS' main market is us collectors and judging from the feedback I read here, they probably did indeed wake up to a bunch of cancelled preorders or are at least very aware of that potential. Kind of skeevy since we wont get Takara's MSRP before those QW preorders come in. It's tough to imagine Hasbro's thinking sometimes because they are a huge company with a wide market, but BBTs caters to us. So decisions like this are totally linked to our involvement and baheviours. Don't let them get the better of you.

But this brings up another good point.

Deep down, does it really matter. As collectors is price the main issue here? Collectors have been paying more for third parties since day 1 just to get figures HasTak wasnt making. Now, they are making it so people have the options of getting either the official or third party version. While I am certain it wont be the case, lets imagine that the official product is 10-20$ more than the unofficial one, is that really enough to make you want to buy the unoficial version?

Also, one thing for sure (judging from the past), those QW you may buy now will not hold their value as much as this official Shockwave will.

Anyways, the way anyone should approach this is the following:

Do I care if a product is official? Can I wait an extra year for a Shockwave in my collection? If the answer is NO to both, then Quake Wave is fine for you.

If the answer is yes to either, then it's a no brainer. Here is what you do to get the best idea of your options.

1. Wait to know the product's MSRP
2. Wait to see if this is an exclusive
3. If it isn't, wait to see preorders on japanese import sites

Once you have all this info, you will be better armed at seeing which option is best for you. BBTS will have this preorder till the toy comes out, there is absolutely no reason to jump in this before knowing more.

Judging by reactions here and elsewhere, it's just smart business. I ain't mad at em, but I definitely know my B.S. detector went off hard when I saw the '$179 and we'll lower it if MSRP is lower' rhetoric.

I reordered Quakewave because Shockwave looks to be shorter than Soundwave.

Quakewave on he other hand I know fits.

BBTS has Quakewave listed for $154.99 and MP Shockwave for $174.99. For me, QW is a known quantity that works great with the Decepticons already available for less money.

I'm wondering if Shockwave will have an interchangeable/rotating gimmick that gives him his other hand. Like, FE Cliffjumper style.

While I totally get the known quantity part, I wouldnt bring price into the decision simply because it is not accurate. It is a straight up fabrication and as a fellow fan, I do not want unknowing fans getting caught up in this nonsense. And in any case, if that is really what it ends up being on BBTS, then we know it will be found for cheaper elsewhere.

All I mean to say is that knowing how much one costs is the main factor here in decision making, not necesarily what the price difference is since no official price has been revealed.

But as I said, be sure you are happy with your decision for Quake Wave because you probably will not be able to sell it for what you bought it for.

I'd forgotten how horrible some of that 80s comic book art was for the Transformers. Yuck.

The MP Shockwave figure looks like it might have a fairly simple transformation. It'll be more involved than the G1 toy certainly, but the upper body doesn't look much different at all....

Shockwave will be fine in Australia as he's not representative of an actual fire arm.

Megatrons problem was he realistically looked like a handgun.

First of all...

:michaelbay: ABOUT GODDAMN TIME! :michaelbay:

At last, some non-seeker :CON: is getting some love! After the amazing Soundwave and crew, it's natural that Shockwave got the MP treatment! It's hard to tell from the pictures, but will it be the same size as Soundwave? Also, will his altmode, the iconic laser-blaster, have lights and sound? How about a huge-ass orange plug on the end of the barrel? :KREMZEEK:

Well, I'm so Glad I dint had to sell a kidney for Quakewave. However, I'm sure many fanboys will STILL have something to complain about. I'll bet my left nut on it. :HEADHURTS:

I know we have a lot of Transformer purists here and nothing wrong with that.
Who would pass up an opportunity to get MP Shockwave?? No one.
No one can predict what the next MP will be so Quakewave filled the void for many and before the announcement was sought after for MP collectors. I wasn't quite sold on Quake wave I thought it was decent but I like the look of MP better

All you ever needed to do for an MP Shockwave was copy the originals dimensions and add articulation. I'm surprised it hasn't been done sooner.

Love this. Good news indeed. I really hope he comes with lights and sound.

Given the fact that I was able to import MP-05 with very little difficulty with no goofy orange plug, I'm pretty sure that a giant purple ray gun, which will probably ship in robot mode, will be free of that as well. But damn, that would really piss me off if it were there.

Could have been issues with the IP.

Lookin' good! Will probably get this one, but also will be good to see this next to Cloud 9's upcoming Quakeblast figure to see who does the figure best.

I was gonna comment on that. Unlike most other toys, the character model looked a lot like the toy in the 80s. That toy's rights were up in the air it seemed since it was not a takara toy (but a toy from Toyco, a korean company), so making an MP would have to take a lot of hints from the original toy/character model and thus there could be an issue with the rights. However, it seems like it all got worked out. What I find particularly funny is that Radioshack did have some ownership over the toy wnd while they maybe didnt have those rights for a while, this happens to be announced the same year that they declare bankruptcy :-? Maybe they had this guy planned for a while (it had been rumoured forever) but kept struggling over the rights.

How can you tell?

If you're assuming that that Hot Rod is the same height at Prowl, it is best not to do so based on this:
Image

Hot Rod ought to be taller than Prowl, putting Shockwave around the height of the bigger Hasui MPs.

This a sure sell for TT. Just thinking, now that TT has the IP locked up, any chance for a g1 Encore?

Is that Hot Rod or Rodimus Prime? I would have thought Hot Rod would be car/Prowl height with Rodimus being 'near prime' height...

Though admittedly I missed most of season 3.
