Huh... mine were fine, but the automorph on the old Camaro BB broke. And I had the Takara version with clear blue windows... I was pretty sad :(

I would now like to thank the writer of the article for mentioning RTS Wreck-Gar :BOT:.
After reading I checked my Wreck-Gar and Lo & Behold, the plastic near his handle bars were ready to snap. Luckily I got to him in time and with a lot of patience and super glue prevented what could of been a bad break.......plus now I know what to keep an eye out for.
So again a BIG THANKS ;)^ :-) :PEACE:   :APPLAUSE: :-D :D

I bought the Dual Model Kit Age of Extinction Optimus Prime. There are a couple of pieces that go onto the ankles on both sides.

They attach using ball joints, but the socket on the right leg was too tight. When I tried to move it to put the next piece on, the piece twisted right off, leaving the ball inside the socket. Try as I might, I just can't remove it to try to glue it back on.

It sucks, because I really do love that figure.

Another GPS break... speaking of which, I can name one GPS case I've personally experienced: RiD Megabolt (not Megatron Megabolt, the teal and gold redeco). Thankfully, it's limited to the post holes in the cannon breaking apart, but I'm scared to handle him now.

I have been keeping my eye on him ever since I uncombined them and kept them shelf bound.
So far, so good.

Combiner Wars Silverbolt.

Superion's head snapped off after 6 months of playing with the guy, at the part where the stomach flap splits into 2 for the hinge.

Now, he's sitting on a shelf, in torso mode, with the head crammed into the cavity as best as possible.

Mine came apart after being only transformed say 5 times, maybe 6, and it came apart in alt mode nonetheless :MAXIMAL:

Hi, new here.

Made an account just to report that my Star Wars/Transformers Chewbacca/Millenium Falcon is actually doing pretty well, especially considering it survived much of my childhood! I don't feel any weakness in the gold/brown parts and it's been transformed/posed around a few hundred times(and that's a pretty lowball estimate, considering that for a long time it was one of maybe five total TFs I owned).

Long story short, the newer ones are definitely more prone to survival in my experience. I started collecting young, so there are quite a few battered bots here and there from first and second grade. Still largely in one piece though, so knock on wood.

Another one I'd like to put out there is actually an accessory...

RIP Movie Jazz's gun connector point, you were a pretty cool car mode gimmick. :(

Hello and Welcome!

I'm surprised your Jazz had that issue. My Jazz has the transformation issue but I've not had problems with the gun :-? :MAXIMAL:

I've not had the issue with RTS Wreck-Gar, and I'd like to think it's because I handled him carefully. Who knows. Mine did break though, one of his hands has the open hand syndrome that figures from around that time got. Now he has no fingers.
Are there any known cures for GPS? TBH one that sounds plausible would be steady sustained heat for an hour or two, remix and re-adhere the plastics. I guess you'd have to know the melting point of the particular plastic to keep it below that, but it might work :-?

As of now, there are no known "cures" for GPS, as we don't exactly know the exact mechanics behind that particular kind of degradation. I did read somewhere that the gold flakes (which are seen as the main factor) prevent the plastic from properly blending and causing microscopic air bubbles, which account for the loss of structural integrity. Think of it like an airy chocolate bar (any Dutchies remember Bross?) vs. a solid chunk.

Nice to see I'm not alone with some of these. Yep, Wreck Gar, MP Rodimus and ROTF Scalpel did the same for me.

We had G1 Skids growing up and I only remember him always being in two halves. Must've broken early on.

Unfortunately also on that list now is my Masterpiece Laserbeak. The wing snapped at the pin. The irony is I was transforming him to put back in his box during a house move so that it wouldn't get damaged.

Considering how many I have and how much I play with them, my list of breakees is thankfully relatively small.

Titans Return Wolfwire he broke on the second day I had him and about 2 minutes after I opened him it was the cockpit hinge and I was crying like a baby :-( I'll need a replacement now :( Second Is Titans Return Blaster who I think this is my fault though I brought him to school with me and when I opened my bag to check on him I found to my horror the handle of the gun had broken off in the back of his Stereo mode I fixed it then it broke again and now the broken piece is still in the hand i'll fix him again but this time i'll just buy a fresh one and put the old one in Storage along with Wolfwire.

Shout out to Platinum Edition Reissue Bombshell's gun I jammed it in there so tight it broke when I got it out my Buddy in the USA was kind enough to source me a G1 Bombshell gun (still haven't tried putting it in his hands yet) Still sucks though

Why the heck am I reading this thread? Now I'm afraid to touch anything I own.

Really though, it's this reason that makes me want to sell a lot of my collection. Not because I don't love my figures but I constantly worry about them breaking and then I have nothing. A voice tells me that some of them, especially the older figures, could be sold off to someone that could appreciate them more and I could get some money back. Right now, much of my collection is in storage so even I can enjoy them.

The Legends class Soundwave that turns into a car and was seen in one of the movies went out on me. The one that turns into a drone did too, and I had been transforming them right from a long time. I have a nice who's a pilot so I gave him to one of my great nieces and told her that it was her aunt's goal to make a plane look like that every time she took off as a joke. Hey you don't have to cry if you can find some way to find humor. I also had a legends class Bumblebee go out on me. Aside from a scout class Hubcap and a Nemesis Prime that gave up the ghost, the only one I can think of is a mini-con that turned into a satellite that I never could figure out, so that makes seven for you.
God bless, Jason Scott Irelan

One of the arms shattered on mine, but I really don't think it was the plastic type, it had a peg hole that always seemed too tight and one day it just couldna take it enna more, keptin.

Still fits together fine in ship mode tho, which is how I usually kept it anyway.

Prime Target wrote:Titans Return Wolfwire he broke on the second day I had him and about 2 minutes after I opened him it was the cockpit hinge and I was crying like a baby :-( I'll need a replacement now :(

Yeas there's almost certainly a design flaw with WW of some type with that hinge. Mine lasted a decent time, but then one day when transforming it, part of that went through a place it shoudn't have and was suddenly hanging there by soft plastic/rubber/silicone and the hard plastic hinge was broken. Snapped. No more. A former hinge. Not going to bother replacing, I'm sure it's common enough that the likelihood is it would happen again and I don't care enough about the character to keep throwing money at it. If I handle it careful, I mean it's still okay in either mode, only really affects transformation

Heh, common enough problem that when Hasbro put out a two pack of old and new Camero Bees, the stuck a warning sticker right on old Bee warning to only transform that part in the right order, and only by pushing the hood button.

How many other TF's had to be rereleased with warnings?

Too bad you missed the news about how they fixed that for the redecos. I think it was by changing to a softer plastic (the handlebars on Junkheap? is that his name? are fairly soft plastic anyway...)

I had real problems with the ROTF Sideswipe figure a few years back, the joints in his legs are made of a clear plastic, and both snapped in different ways while I was transforming him from robot mode to car mode, one snapped inside the leg and the other snapped where the leg and body connect, let's just say that figure is now being used for parts!
