The last reissue was in 2004 with the Commemorative Series. That's 14 years ago. That's quite a while so where is the problem?

It's true that some TF could be reissued like all the headmasters and such. But the lost of molds and other shenanigans may prevent that.

False, they reissued G1 Prime in, I think, 2009 for the 25th anniversary.
...How does one mistake the G1 Prime toy for the G1 Hot Rod toy?

I think they were talking about the last reissue in general. I don't know what that is but i know that :TAKARATOMY: reissued G1 Megs and Prime with a DOTM Megs and Prime around the time DOTM came out. So after 2009.

There have been several G1 reissues since. Like predaking, fortress maximus, and the cone heads, just to name a few.

This.

Again, again, and again.

Oomph, I completely forgot about those. #-o

All said, I'm always on board for a good round of G1 reissues.

Hell yeah, me too. Did you ever get those Cone heads? I thought those were and excellent re-issue. I hope we get more like those.

Yep, they are still sealed and in storage, with the insecticons. I still can't believe I forgot about them.....

I will buy it, even though I don't need it. The more they sell the more likely it is we get more reissues. Also noticed he has plastic feet. I believe the TRU reissue had metal feet. Just an observation, I could care less either way. ;)^

With the unexpectedly large amount and variety of Hot Rods I have now acquired, I am now interested in getting this to add to the pile. And also to have a complete G1 figure

Going to skip this one because I have a good friend of mine that’s about to sell me his older brother’s bafflingly minty Hot Rod, but if they do more reissues like they’re doing this one, I’m game.

I have no interest unless its got some major difference from the original. Make it purple or green, or blue, or whatever and I'll buy it like gangbusters as I'm a sucker for G1 figures in funky colors, but if it's just like the original... meh. That's what ebay is for (and sealed figures from the LAST reissue are pretty much already at this price point).

M'eh - already have the Titans Return version, which has modern toy tech. Why pay more for something that does less?

Its a nice looking figure. If it's at a good price I'd be tempted to buy it.

I hope it uses the shin pieces from the original Targetmaster release (I think that one, could be one of the reissues) that has clearance for the legs to slide without damaging the thigh stickers.

I doubt it. The TFC bookcase Takara Targetmaster Hotrodimus also used the sticker killing thighs. What the original TM Hotrod used was a shortened thigh decal which the Takara TFC version did not (very weird indeed that they lost the negatives for the modded decals waaaaaaaaaaaay back in 2004)

It's a bit pricey but there are quite a few G1 figures I want to get hold of and this is one of them...

At first I was going to pass if it wasn't the Targetmaster version, but after seeing that vintage packaging complete with the old Hasbro logo, I think I've been swayed. Not even sure if I'd open it, it just looks really nice in that box. Now I'm hoping some Platinum figures get released again in the vintage boxes. Bring on the Triplechangers in the right colors!

I hear you, it would be nice to see some added variety to reissues as someone that has been at this a long time. That said, the length of time between the previous Hasbro reissue of Hot Rod and now is about the same as the amount of time between the vintage release and said first reissue. I don't mind it on those grounds. At least it's not Insecticons?

I would like to know what they price will be like. I still have my original broken one, and I have a replacement I bought off the internet before they became ridiculously priced (although crappy stickers), and I'd like some nice crisp clean ones for display.

IIRC, this should be like $30 or so.

... or at the very least have Hasbro and TakaraTomy put more effort into relocating lost molds and fixing broken/deteriorated ones. It would pay dividends if done smart enough :)

Video Review of Walmart Exclusive G1 Autobot Hot Rod Reissue

We ony got confirmation of the Walmart exclusive G1 Hot Rod reissue yesterday and now we have a video review. While it is in Chinese, we see all we need to see for a toy that has already been reviewed ad nauseum.

It comes in a very nice replica G1 packaging minus rounded corners on the flap. Aside form that, it appears to be a straight reissue of the original TRU Commemorative Hot Rod reissue. It has the wrong sticker on his chest, which comes from the later Targetmaster chest sticker instead of the original plain non-shiny version on the original G1 Hot Rod. Also, it does not have the pins in his "shoulder" joints that attach his upper arms to his torso.

The review was done by Kevin Liu and this was sent to us by Daniel Oon.
