I suspect the reason why both he and ratchet were not released individually is because they already surpassed the deluxe class they originated from. In Seige, they were the biggest deluxes in the line. And then in Earthrise, they were given the big sled accessory, already bumping them up. A few parts effects ala voyager Hot Rod and voila, voyager SS 86 Ironhide.

Indeed. To have a proper "G1" Rachet and Ironhide, they cannot be deluxes. Add more engineering to avoid partsforming, then add one or two extra gun and BAM! Voyager. SS86 Hotrod has set a precedent in that regard.

Even though I bought the Amazon 2-pack (mainly to get Prowl), this new release won’t bother me either way…
If it’s a new mold and it’s really good, I’ll consider getting it.
I’m more hoping that this brings a SS86 Ratchet down the road.
Also, imo it is a huge stretch that a “dead”, de-saturated version would be made. Of anyone.
Don’t get me wrong, that’s a big scene; major characters destroyed, on top of the fact that most times in the cartoon characters were injured or damaged, but not killed off.
But in terms of a toy, it’s extremely limiting. It’s limiting even in terms of display.

What I could see is a few 5mm pegs added to the torso area, & a few blast effects being thrown-in.

I’m also not going to be surprised if it’s just the ER version with a weapon & blast effects.

But what does interest me is the possibility of a SS86 Brawn this opens up. Brawn is one of my favs and he really could use an updated Cliff/Bee/Pipes type deluxe. Now that I would love and could throw money at lol.

Agreed, although I think it would violate the spirit of Studio Series 86 and all unique first run molds (at least until Sweep). If it's a straight re-release of the two-pack I'll likely skip it (although, just from the gun it would be technically inaccurate).

Yes

In general? Not just in Transformers? I know RotF Sideways is one, and half of the 2007 Movie Decepticons, created just to die

Yes.

https://images.app.goo.gl/HKgYXpAFgGJhk8RP9

And all the star wars red shirts and Thanos' goons.

But all of that is besides the point. As we saw with Jazz and the listing for 86 core ratchet, the 86 line is just there to release more G1 characters at standard retail, regardless of how important they were in the actual 86 film. I mean think about it, the fact that Jazz is in the 86 line while Cyclonus and Galvatron are in the Kingdom line just shows how Hasbro could care less about this release strategy making any kind of sense. They just want toys on shelves and they know we'll buy em nomatter the mental math anyone cares to take part in.

I feel for those that bought the Earthrise/Seige/etc versions of these, but for those of us that weren't able to get (many of?) the "regular" G1 characters from these lines (Ratchet, Ironhide, the Seekers and Coneheads, etc), or who wanted "clean" paintjobs (sans cr@pple-damage), such as Springer, I'm happy that the SS might be a way to "fix" this and give some fans a second chance.

Hasbro will only slow down on the bees if they stop selling (and even then, just maybe). It's like asking Mattel to slow down on Batman. Not gonna happen.

Well, I suppose it's inevitable that they will always "swarm" the aisles, and we'll swallow Hasbro's honeyed words and buzz-off to the shops like the good drones we are... ;)

Let's also not forget that it's the retailers who keep wanting to carry the big names like Bumblebee, Optimus, Megatron, Starscream, etc.

Maybe SS 86 Ironhide will come charred and with a big hole blown through him to 'simulate' his ignominious death...

Well, right now the idiots...err...the big retailers believe that those characters are the face of the franchise. Optimus and Megatron, yes...absolutely. BB got in because of some weird appeal the kids had for him from the Bay movies, and Starscream is because fanpeeps will by ANYTHING Seeker related for some reason.

Um, I don't think Mattel makes Batman anymore. McFarlane toys do the 6" collector figures and Spinmaster does the really cool looking and articulated 2.5" kids toys.

Just saw in-hand images of Coronation SS over on TFW.
Still not impressed.
What was interesting was that I didn’t know that at one point there were re-tooled lower legs as well as a new chest design… Which most likely got rid of some of the Siege greebling…
Now that maybe could’ve swayed me…
But looks like it never came to fruition.

Nevermind, I found it.

Why would what's essentially an Earthrise Starscream have Siege 'greebling'? Anyway, the figure is an Earthrise Starscream with new accessories and a little bit of paint difference (as advertised).

I'll be getting it - I want the throne and the parts, and I'll either sell the Earthrise version or give it to my son or a buddy.

What I will say, though, is this makes me think that Earthrise Arcee (and potentially Ironhide) will indeed be more or less the same as previous releases, which would be things I will skip.

On Coronation SS:
I like what I see for the most part. But I think the null rays look weird. I think they really wanted you to be able to make him move his arm outwards, but head-on it looks odd.

As a kid I never realized that Coronation SS was actually drawn very differently from regular SS. But I think replicating that would be a mistake. I want my Seekers to have a uniform look, like SS put on his coronation gear, not that he had a full body makeover.

I think it may very well be more pricey than it's worth since the throne isn't a SS accessory, strictly speaking and doesn't do much. But that's sort of this hobby in a nutshell.

You mean like the Sideshow or Hot Toys figures? I don't know of any articulated 12" figures, Batman or otherwise, that are mainline retail.

i was thinking the same thing, I wish the SS86 slug would have taken some cues the cyberverse one took. for one thing, the chest on the SS86 is so bland, the Cyberverse color pallet would really help it. And the SS86 one needed the stronger looking arms too, it's arms are just too small.

No, I meant the 12 inch kiddy ones that have balljoints in a bunch of places, usually in the pegs near the smaller batman figures. But turns out that's also Spinmaster right now. They look identical to the ones Mattel had been releasing. But in the end, all I meant to say was that Bumblebee is now a main character of a toy line and as with all other main characters (spidey, darth vader, he man, batman), the company will keep churning him out. And so far, they are right to do so, that Buzzworthy stuff is actually selling. Same goes for Optimus, you can never have enough Optimus Primes on shelves come holliday season, they tend to sell out.

I would say if anything, Hasbro and Target were brilliant in putting together the Buzzworthy Bee line. They found an avenue that allows them to pump out more Bee's without having to force them into the main retail line.

Quite a few fans had complained that Bee is taking over everything, while he really isn't, at least not the main generations line. Bee had 3 figures in T-30 if you count Goldfire, then a break until TR with the Legends figure, and then nothing else in the main retail line since then. Netflix was a Walmart exclusive, and the core Bee and Spike, Origins and Worlds Collide Bees were Target exclusives. Sure those are a lot of exclusive bees, but the point is they are not taking away a deluxe slot from someone else in the main line.

And better yet, if you were to have a slot for Legacy be a rerelease of the walmart Bumblebee, you would have more fans rejoicing than hating it.

So regardless of what anyone may think or say, the market evidence is clear: both parents and fans want to find Bumblebee on the shelves and he sells.

So you can choose how much you want it to wrap or flow.

Anyone have an eye for what's changed relative to the Earthrise mold? I know he has new hands. Is there anything else?
