Looks more like Full Tilt in vehicle mode with his gun on, to me.
Speaking of Full Tilt I think it would have been kinda funny if Takara had given him a new Headmaster based on
Cybertron Megatron because that Megatron got his color scheme from Trypty.
Those are some neat new modes they devised for him, and it's cool to see the faux-eyes on his tail be used for something at long last.
So... I've been thinking about how Takara did Super Ginrai and Godbomber for the Legends line, and I don't think they did either as well as they could have.
I'm going to start with Super Ginrai versus Powermaster Optimus Prime. The first thing I'm going to talk about are the arms.
* PMOP's arms have some definite bad points: on the aesthetic side of things the inner faces of the arms are wide open, and on the function side of things the way the trailer roof panels are integrated blocks him from making full use of the CW Ultra Magnus guns and the forearms don't have 5mm ports. But on the positive side, there's a clever touch to the sculpt, a line along the raised hexagonal parts and then off to the side that suggests the shape of the gauntlets from the original Godbomber toy. Also, the opening hands are kind of neat.
* Super Ginrai's arms make some definite improvements; they don't have the visible hollows and and they have additional 5mm ports. However, while they have the trailer roof panels mounted such that they don't block clearance below the hands there's less purpose to it since he has standard 5mm-hole fists and doesn't come with the CW Magnus guns (nor can his new rifles be combined into a hammer). I think it would have been cooler to keep the opening hands and include both sets of guns (as well as a pair of Wing Saber-style handles for holding 5mm-peg weapons). Also a bit sad that the clever sculpt touch is not present here.
Now for the feet. PMOP's feet are obviously just CW Ultra Magnus' in a new color. They hold him up stably enough and have molded tail lights. but that's all there is to them. Super Ginrai's feet are designed to resemble the original PMOP/Super Ginrai feet but with more detail (although the design of the trailer ramps means that he basically has the original feet twice XD), enable combination with Godbomber, and add ankle rockers. The latter are what's of interest; based on the varying reports of their stability it sounds like they're just a friction joint and not a ratchet (which they probably should have been).
As for Godbomber...
* The forearms from the original toy had a nice gauntlet shape to them that looked nice both as part of Godbomber's robot mode and in the God Ginrai combination. The forearms on this are just boxes with fins, even though a gauntlet shape probably could have been achieved.
* The wings are integrated and hinged into Godbomber now instead of partsforming like on the original toy. The way this is done results in them being too high relative to Ginrai's shoulders when the two are combined. They should have either just had the wings (and the new-to-Legends separate upper arms) partsform, or added in a slide joint somewhere to get the wings down to the correct height.
* It's a bit disappointing that they didn't design the God Cannon's seat in such a way that there was still space to include a working missile launcher.
