An Ironhide for my collection

Hey guys. I have a question and would like some opinions:

I have a Classics 2.0 Ironhide and have used him as the stand-in for that character but lately I have just not felt that that toy fit the character correctly. That version is just a little too portly for how I image Ironhide.

I've been thinking of getting the Arms Micron Ironhide. What is everyone's opinion on that mold? I like the cyberverse version but wondered about the deluxe.

Thanks.

I have Prime Sergeant Kup which is the same mold, and he's pretty decent by himself. The head is meant for Ironhide, tho not necessarily the G1 one. He does need both of his cannons, or at least a second Arms Micron.

Movie 1 voyager Hide is the best fitting if you ask me.

AM Ironhide/Prime Kup is a lovely little figure, emphasis ion the little, dont think he would fit into Classics very well. Personally I really like the Classics 2.0 mould, very under-rated in my opinion, if your looking for a more suitable replacemt the iGear version is pretty sweet

Wow. I love that iGear version but...alas...money IS a factor. Little doesn't bother me too much so I may get the Arms Micron. I'll have to pick up a Kup for the weapons though.

I'm fine with him being a little short, so long as I give him some big guns.

What's wrong with Classics/Universe Ironhide? ;) I know he has flaws but to me, the biggest letdown is his hands being unable to hold any other weapons.

For some reason I really hope there will be a WFC/FOC Ironhide (or Ratchet). But if Hasbro really makes one, it better be a taller deluxe. Like WFC Optimus. Not the current tiny deluxe.

Prime Kup/Ironhide could be a good substitute but he is too small for my taste (and that's why I made him Brawn ;) )

:APPLAUSE: Nice work, I never could have seen him as such until I saw the pics. :APPLAUSE:

Another, limited possibility is BotCon 2005 Ironhide, retooled from Energon Tow-Line:

wow. that really does work as Brawn. Good job.

Yeah, I'd go for a WFC/FOC Ironhide. I'd like something that mixes the movie 'Hide with the g1 'Hide. That's why I'm leaning towards Prime 'Hide. Even if he is small.

IMO, Universe (2009) Ironhide is just fine with me. But as JelZe mentioned, Prime/Arms Micron Ironhide is probably your dream girl guy.

If money weren't an issue like you mentioned, iGear Weapon Specialist is the epitome of all Ironhide-y goodness. ;)

I always felt that Prime Kup would make an excellent Brawn and you have just proved it, over to eBay to find one going cheap.

Oh noe! You might get the one I was looking at ;)

Nah, I've been buying so much lately I gotta cut back for a little bit.

I think I made up my mind to get the Arms Micron Ironhide and grab Kup's weapons in my next order. And since I have a great Kup already I'll paint the Prime Kup to look like Brawn too.

Thanks for the advice, everyone. It was very helpful to me :)

What do you think about DOTM Voyager Cannon Force Ironhide?

I actually like him a lot. One of my favorite movie Hides. I don't dig the single cannon though and I wish the head had some more shadows to it. It's a good version though. Just not the overall look I want.

The guy is cheap. So, buy 2, give the first one the other cannon and do a black wash on his face.
Use water based black paint for models. Take a brushfull of black paint on a stryrofoam tray or something. Add drops of water until the black paint is somewaht clear like ink. wash his face with the paint. The goal is to the paint to fall in the tiny cracks of the details. Wipe any excess paint of the raised surfaces with a cloth. It seem you can buy washes already mixed.

What do with the spare Ironhide? Give him to little Timmy or customise him!

Yeah, I've done washes on figures. I just mean it as a general observations. It's a good one, but the design is too movieverse for what I want. I like the suggestions though. Two of those big cannons would be awesome.

Shame more people didn't take to the iGear mold, better. I have the Ratchet version and it's fantastic. No regrets. In fact, I was so impressed, I'd definitely buy another iGear product. Their Starscream raptor looks buyworthy, but it's $100.00!

How much was the specialist mold when it came out?

They were $120.00 a piece, I believe. They came with a ridiculous amount of accessories and extra heads to help offset that cost a bit, though.

They were re-released earlier this year/late last year as another form of specialist with all but the hand pistol and replacement heads removed. Those were priced at $99.99 a piece.

Last month, I believe, BBTS had the Ratchet version on sale for $69.99 (a one day sale) and that's the one I bought. It was well worth it. It's torso is more red than Ratchet's ever was, plus it comes with the First Aid head already attached, but it comes with a G1 show accurate (or close to it) head that you can put on.

I've not Reprolabeled it, nor does the extra red plastic bother me. He was quite a nice figure, right out of the box, honestly. I do have two recommendations, however. Do the mod that allows his vehicle's nose piece to flip up so you can fold all of the panels on what becomes his backpack, and be extremely careful with those leg/roof panels. They're kind of a pain in the ass. lol

Maybe with a head-swap? Meaning put a classic head (like the construcbot Ironhide head) on Cannon Force Ironhide?

Definitely a shame more people didn't take to iGear's Ironhide & Ratchet. Problem is (or it least this was my problem), those Specialists ventured more into MP rather than Classics territory, and I assume we'll see an official MP Ironhide/Ratchet some time.

Optimizzy - maybe it's less a mold problem and more a deco problem? Have you considered the newly released Autobot Specialist 3-pack from Takara?
