I know that these toys weren't very popular, but I am interested in at least looking at, and possibly buying, Megatron and Starscream. I checked out BigBadToys and they are sold out?? Wow. Anyway if any of you guys have these two figures, please tell me what you think of them. I once saw Megatron at Toyworld ages ago when I was younger, and I was shocked at how he was a basic, lol. And Starscream looked pretty cool.

Since size is an issue with Megs you could try looking for the oversized Robot Master knock offs. I only have the official RM version of the mould myself but I hear that the KO is closer to deluxe size. Also bear in mind that Starscream is recoloured from the Euro/Jap exclusive Predator figure Skyquake, so if you're looking for the mould rather than the specific colours on it that gives you another option.

Oh, well, I'm interested in the series itself. I guess even if they're just repaints I'm not too bothered. just interested in how the toys themselves were. After all, I do regret not buying that Megatron then.

I have Machine Wars Starscream, and he is not really worth a lot of time and effort to hunt him down. I got him and his box (in slightly worn condition) for about $15. He literally has 2 points of articulation.
Best bet is to keep on eye on the domestic ebay site, they pop up occasionally on there, maybe they will be on it more, riding the movie's popularity. International Shipping really kills the thought of getting this figure from overseas. If you are really desperate, you can also look for Predator Skyquake, though he will be more expensive, as he was only released in Australia, Europe and Japan. He is green. Very green.
Megatron is a tad harder to find, I have not seen one of them on ebay for about 18 months.

I would like to get them. Desperate? I'm not so sure.

It is a misconception that the Machine Wars were not popular or a succes. Often the series is compared to how much it made. But Machine Wars was only sold in limited supply and only at specific stores. If you compare the line with overall toy-sales it seems to have done poorly. But if you look at the percentage of the line itself that got sold before disappearing into the discount pile, Machine Wars didn't do too bad.
Even if you did have G1 characters that didn't resemble their original forms, and that Optimus Prime had a mouth. The line wasn't bad at all. It consited mostly out of repaints from the UK exclusives that were never released in the US, and never before used G2 prototypes. That on its own makes the line one for real fans.
And of course the succes of the line itself made Hasbro to decide to switch from beasts Transformers to go back to vehicle based Transformers for Beast Machines. When the Vehicons, which might not have existed if it not for Machine Wars, started to outsell the Maximals, the Vehicle/Machine Transformers stories were back on top!

If you want to worship the mold, you can do better to worship Stalker! Despite the neon colours of this UK Exclusive, all the features work on it and has all the weapons that were not supplied with Machine Wars.

The Predators were just generally cool. Am I right in thinking that the US only ever got the tampered with larger bots and not the smaller jets in any form?

Well, earlier figures from the UK Exclusives like the Cyberjets ended up in G2. But as far as the later figures like the Lightformers and Predators,... Yeah, they have remained exclusive to the UK/Europe.

I want Megatron the most. I guess it just reminds me of when I really liked Transformers even more... I know Megatron's not even that good a figure... but I would like to see him again.

Best bet when using eBay is to set you search parameters at world wide. Though you have to be mind full of the shipping costs. And of course not to squeeze out your Machine WarTs too soon!
Apart from Prime, Starscream and Soundwave, Machine Wars figures should still be reasonably priced.

If you get Megatron, you really should get Megaplex aswell... Megaplex is a clone (re-paint) of Megatron. According to the bio's Megatron rule and uses Megaplex to be in more places at once. They belong together, I think. Of course, if you want them for the molds rather then the characters, it shouldn't matter.

Sounds good. Would you happen to have the bios of Megatron and Megaplex anywhere?
I don't know why the heck I want MEgatron at all. It's just emotional attachment, that's all it is.

Nevermind, I found them. Man, Prime would kick Megatron's butt in this continuity. Heaven knows why they released Megatron in Basic while Prime got Ultra mode and his own battle station. Ouchy.

Yeah, but Megatron & Megaplex are two, while Optimus Prime was still just one.
Machine Wars was never intended to become a full fledged line. It was a test to see if vehicles would still work, get some used out of the molds that G2 didn't end up using, and it was to give something to the 'oldskool' fans to show them what was going on with the old characters of G1 while the Beast Wars were feeding all new characters.

I'm a bit disappointed that Machine Wars was never meant to take off. It might have had potential.

You really should look at getting the original releases of the molds as well because they featured more weapons and well ... you can't get enough Stalker love.

MMMM Stalker
Got two of him, and a Universe Soundwave, how I love that Mold.
Optimus Prime is actually a watered down, wimpyfied re-release of Turbomaster Thunderclash.
http://www.seibertron.com/toys/gallery.php?id=640&size=0&start=0To be 100% honest with you Raymond101, you would be better off doing as Burn suggested and going for the originals of Starscream, Soundwave and Prime, they are often cheaper and easier to find as well, especially if you dont want their (completely awesome) weapons and missiles.

Fair deal, but really, I am just wondering if Megatron (and Megaplex) is worth looking for because that's the one I would want out of the bunch. From what everyone's saying it doesn't seem to be the case I suppose.

Yeah. The Neon colours of the UK exclusives may have made them hard to look at. But the molds of the toys were pretty cool. Especially considering that they are about 15 years old by now.
