From the TF movie forums. I think this will make a good thread on it's own here.

Just pointing out that if it were not for the Michael Bay movies, I would NEVER have started collecting Transformers. When the film was announced back in early 2007, This got me exited. So, I downloaded some Japanese TF series, Galxy Force (Cybertron) and I watched the whole thing. I loved it so much that I ordered a Galaxy Force leader Optimus Prime on Ebay (brand new, 60$ shipped). I transformed is once or twice and then, put him on display. I never bought any other TF until 2009, after seeing Revenge of the Fallen. I bought a ROTF Human Alliance Bumblebee (40$). I remember being nervous and feeling guilty about buying a 40$ toy. I kept it sealed for months.

Then, when 2010 came around, I had the idea of making a Optimus Prime collection. So I got on a spending frenzy on Ebay to get every single Optimus Prime molds ever. However, I also loved Starscream. So, I bought Starscream as well. I never liked Starscream's Movie design until I bought the HFTD Leader toy on sale (40$) in winther 2010-11. I found out how wrong I was and fell in love with the mold. Then, little by little, I started buying other Movie figs, Generations, and so on and so forth.

The rest is History.

So, even if my wallet hates you, my heart THANK YOU Michael Bay! Without you, I wouldnt be here today. :michaelbay:

...

Also, I bet I'm not alone in this situation. Also, I'm pretty sure a whole generations of fans came to the TF fandom just because of the bay movies. That very basic fact cause me to have no respect for any bay haters who think Transformers should be Classic and that's it. It's a nearshightness that I find repulsive and ridiculous, especially when the Bay hater consider him to be a Great Satan or something.

I don't know if Bay saved the TF brand or not. One thing is sure though, is that he helped it a lot. Deal with it, crazed "geewun" fanboy.

I'm here because of bay. In scientific terms he was the catalyst for my collecting. As a kid I played with my brothers G1 toys, read his comics and watched videos from car boot sales. I loved them all, my toys grew and grew as relatives outgrew their collection, I got it. Car boot sales and the late 80s and early 90s European exclusives also added to my collection.

However, as I got older other things caught my interests, power rangers, video games etc took over. The transformers were consigned to a box under my bed. I watched the new shows like Beast Wars and Armada, but I was into other things. As the years went by the transformers were sorted and a fair few left for a car boot sale, hopefully making some new children fans.

Flash forward to the summer of 2007. I had kept in the loop about the movie and it's developments. I wasn't bothered at all by the changes to be honest. Saw it and really liked it. The spark had finally been given fuel, over the following months I started to gorge on information, even picked up my first new TF toy, the micromaster collection re-release of six-liner.
The full bug came in 08 when I bought my then g/f (now wife) the deluxe 2008 camero bumblebee, and got myself the voyager prime. That was the ignition.

As they say the rest is history. Of course there's been lulls in the hobby but I'm here for good (you are allowed to groan if this displeases you).

The first live action film drew me back into the franchise. I was always a bit flighty with it growing up. I watched Beast Wars as a kid, then forgot about the franchise until Armada came out, then stopped a few episodes into Engergon because I disliked the series.

Out comes the first live action film and because I enjoyed the movie and had a bit of spare cash, I went out and purchased a few figures (my first figures, actually. Never had any growing up, apart from the three G1/G2 figures I picked up at a yard sale in elementary school). That was about where it stayed until I graduated college, at which point I dove chest deep into Animated figures... or tried to. I loved the show and it had kept me company on many a long night in school, but by the time I had the money to consider collecting, Animated was on the way out (boo!). I only had 3 or 4 months to gather what figures I could. Fortunately the timing allowed me to get a leader Magnus for $20 :x But it also meant i missed out on several figures, which I've been slowly gathering ever since.

Haven't looked back since.

ROTF. Started out with Legion Sideswipe and then Delixe HFTD SS 7 months later. My love for TFs was reignited for sure by watching the first Bay movie.

This is me all over. As a kid I had five figures - G2 Optimus and Bumblebee, Skyjack, Rotorstorm and Skyquake - which went to a new home along with most of my toys around age 12.

Watched Beast Wars with my mates and was jealous of their toys, but never got any. Still vividly remember Rattrap on his card on the pegs at the local department store.

Best friend was into Armada etc at High School but I never was - got him a reissue Starscream as a gift - but it was the 2007 movie that did it. As soon as Blackout transformed I fell in love with it all over again. So far I've bought toys from each movie line, as well as Generations and re-buying my original guys. Now I'm getting into MPs.
