Along with the Transformers: The Last Knight toys line-up from Transformers Perù, as seen here, the images also contained some more information of the Robots in Disguise line - which does not, however, contain too much new information as to what is to come as it has Combiner Force only, and names we are already seeing at retail, but you can check it out below in any case, and stay tuned for more updates as Toy Fair 2017 is just round the corner!

Combiner Force Hyperchange Heroes:

Optimus Prime
Bumblebee

Combiner Force Warriors:

Grimlock
Strongarm
Starscream
Blastwave
Stormshot
Autobot Drift

Combiner Force Activator Combiner:

Strongarm and Trickout
Bumblebee and Stuntwing

Combiner Force Crash Combiners:

Optimus Prime & Strongarm

We still have Skysledge and Stormhammer, and then there's "Drag Strip" and "Wildbreak".

Wait... what if that Stunticon pack was actually a pair of 2-packs? "Motorstar" & Drag Strip, "Wildrider" & Breakdown? Would fit the naming scheme of the bigger bots. :-?

SDCC Windblade is nice, but I'm a sucker for that shade of blue. TAV is really good, and they painted the sword.

Saw the new RiD wave with Stormshot, but no legion springload. Decided not to get the jet.

That is my thinking too that the next wave of Crash Combiners (after Skysledge and Stormhammer) will be 4 Stunticons (2+2) so you still get the mix-and match idea going on.

I'd be surprised if they make more than that - though I'd like it if they did.

At this point it looks like RID is just not going to die (at least not quite yet). I expected it to be all done by the time the Movie toys came out - but what with the Movie toys showing a lack of idea and being very repaint heavy - I don't even see it as a proper full toy line (at least so far). It's more like something that will be there and gone as quickly as Combiner Force likely will be too.

Ok, this has been bugging me for quite a while: did anyone get both Warrior Class Power Surge Optimus Prime figures (TRU white and regular retail red) and switched out the clear and blue parts?

It's a modding project I've been considering with my red one, inspired by this release:

TAV50 Hyper Surge Optimus Prime

Also partly the reason why I asked about the sword a few months back.

Is it hard to do? And how does the result look?

good lord that sideswipe looks bad. his torso is literally a flat panel screwed onto a frame. and not even screwed on right, his legs are misaligned.

That really does not look much like Rescue Bots Blurr's face/head.

It... kind of does. It's not the exact same but they follow the same patterns and motifs.

That forehead crest of his is definitely more from G1 Blurr without the antenna.

Yeah, it's the RB Blurr head but they changed it up a little to include some original and G1-drawn aspects. It still follows the same motifs and patterns as RB Blurr.

To me this:

looks as much like this:

as this:

looks like this:

Sure, they borrowed a few things from G1 Blurr like the color and that little thing on top of his head, but the overall shape is closer to RB Blurr.

Huh, so that's what RB Sideswipe looks like? Weird. Why is RiD so obsessed with the black chest window thing? It's a cool motif but it being on everyone is really confusing me.

The ironic thing is that Sideswipe doesn't have a window chest in either the RID 2015 cartoon or on any of his toys, including his Rescue Bots toy. The window chest he had in the Rescue Bots cartoon was all that cartoon's doing.

It's nice to see some rotation in a One-step you don't often get that.

It looks like the knees up are on a hinge system so the chest is the nose of the car and I like the elbows he has - it seems he spins at the knees.

But I really would prefer some more Decepticons - heck they could do a much better job with Thunderhoof - or at least repaint him a bit.

They never made a Megatronus One step so that would be worth doing as would Starscream.

I think that Shark one would work really well as a one-step too.

------

P.S.

This is now 5 One-step RID Bumblebee (2 Scissor,2 butterfly, and an unfold type).
4 Sideswipe (2 butterfly, one sort of Scissor and a rotate and chest pop type)
3 Optimus Prime (Flipchanger ish one, one which is mainly just moving his hands and standing it up, and an unfold like one) I would have expected one be made in white but they've not done that yet surprisingly.

2 Drift (One scissor and one butterfly)

------

So I'll say what I usually do - make more Decepticons and make Jazz.
Also why not make Rescue Bots onesteps in with the RID line ?

Rescue Bots are already One-Step more or less. ;)

So I don't know if this is noteworthy, or even remotely close to new any more, since I haven't kept very good track of this thread - but I found some Combiner Force Warriors (RiD Wave 9?) in a Target today. I know for certain these guys have been out for a while in the US but I don't know if they've been seen Down Under yet, so I figured I'd share it anyway.

Image
(Drift was there too but I didn't realise he was part of the wave at the time, so he doesn't get to be in the picture.)

Personally I didn't have much of a hankering for any of them except Screamer, whom I picked up and am rather pleased with. Not a big fan of the facial/headal region, but hey, it seems to be the line's aesthetic so I have no problem with it being the way it is. I might go back for Stormshot later though, he looks pretty delish as well.
Additionally (and I'm sure this isn't new), the Windblade/Scorponok wave (RiD Wave 7?) seems to have shown up at the same time and I pocketed little miss way-too-red as well, bringing my total RiD collection count up to a massive... eight.

Image
(Three Minicon Weaponizers not pictured because they've gone walkabout and I can't be bothered looking for them and all their pieces :P )

Designing Transformers: Robots in Disguise Starscream and Blurr, with Sean Carmine Isabella

PostPosted: Tue Feb 14, 2017 2:07 pm
by Va'al
In the latest Hasbro Pulse newsletter, we have an in-depth chat with Hasbro Transformers toy designer Sean Carmine Isabella, talking about two characters part of the cast of animated series Transformers: Robots in Disguise: Starscream and Blurr. The two were added to the aesthetic of the show, while keeping some of their G1 elements (and some of Prime's, in the Decepticon's case) - check out below to find out more!

Epic Redesigns: Retrofitting Starscream & Blur into “Robots In Disguise”

Tapping into the rich history of Transformers lore, famed G1 Decepticon, Starscream, and heroic Autobot, Blur, are getting a Robots In Disguise overhaul. So what exactly went into detailing these classic characters? We went right to the source for the answers—Hasbro Senior Product Designer on Transformers, Sean Carmine Isabella.

About the Designer:

Designing many of his favorite childhood characters, Isabella builds new play experiences for the next generation of thinkers and explorers. Before he worked on heroic robots battling the forces of evil, Sean designed toys for brands such as Littlest Pet Shop, Easy Bake Oven, and FurReal Friends.

Image

So, why Starscream?

“Being an ‘80s kid, the idea of high flying fighter jets always sparked my imagination. No one encapsulated this for the Deceptions better than Starscream. Drawing jets and spaceships is something of a hobby for me so getting the opportunity to work on reimagining a classic character, (and a jet no less!) was a dream come true.”

Image

What elements of the G1 Starscream sculpt inspired this redesign?

“We wanted to hold onto certain iconic design traits to maintain his epic look—such as his chest exhaust design, graphic pattern on his wing, his overall color scheme, and his twin null ray blasters.”

Image

What was your motivation behind Blur’s build?

“Blur’s a fast talking, speed loving Autobot. We wanted his design to evoke the same sense of speed to be true to the core of the character.”

Image

Was there a specific G1 element you focused on keeping or updating?

“We looked at his classic Cybertronian mode that debuted in the 1986 film and reimagined how this vehicle mode would exist in a modern Earth setting.”

Image

The GI connections certainly don’t stop with these bots. Tune in to Transformers: Robots In Disguise to find out if some of your favorites are getting a modern makeover.
