Are You a Completest?

well are ya?

i feel "completest" can mean a few things, depending on your range. you could be a completest for an entire line, certain parts, certain characters, even just certain molds.

for me, i suppose its:
-BW dinobot to the extreme. every mold and variation of the character, MISB and loose.
-MP's. though theres gaps, its just cause i havent gotten around to them yet. while im strict with takaras, im more loose with hasbro ie: only getting very different ones like acid storm and sunstorm.
-unicron. not a whole lot on the list, but im after them all
-maybe AOE EMOP. it just seems to be happening naturally...

theres probably more, but thats all i got off the top of my head. share folks!

I'm no rich enough nor care enough to be a completist in anything. There's way too many to collect and the $ and space is limited.

However, I'm a completist on ONE mold. The Universe Voyager Inferno mold. My first one was RTS Voyager Grappel and I instantly fell in love. It's the perfect TF IMO. Then, I bought GDO Hotspot. I had to pay extra to own the original Universe Inferno. Then, why not, I bought Artfire. Even though I'm not usually a fan of repaints, I hunt down and bought Botcon Pyro. Then, I hesitated to buy a brand new Henkei Inferno for 40$CAN with no shipping. After some weeks, I called myself an idiot to pass it up and was lucky to find it still unsold. So, I bought him and openned that moddafukka. Then, an unexpected Hotspot came along with the Asia exclusive Evac Squad set. Bought it recently. I hesitated to buy United Grapple. Now, thanks to your imput, I got the final piece of the Inferno mold, United Grapple for a reasonable price!

Image

I'm pretty sure they will re-release this mold again. I know there's a green Inferno in G1. So, that's one more possible down the line! If they ever release a Lucky Draw of the mold, I'm going to cry...

.... completist has a squiggly red underline when i type it... completest doesnt. sooo thats why i spelled it the way i did

and yeah theres a green version of inferno/grapple.
hauler was in one episode of season 1, and was orange/yellow which looks obviously like grapple. one scene, didnt even transform. the character was obviously an oversight cause hes never mentioned again and grapple appears in season 2.

much later, ehobby immortalizes the hauler character as a green reissue, explanation being that he's vain or something and likes changing his colors all the time. and he's somehow related to the constructicons i think.

Spell check is often so random. Moreso because my computer is set in French, whennever I write something in English... Squigly lines. Squigly lines everywhere. So I deactivated it.

Anyway, yeah, HAULER. Why the hell they didn't remade Hauler with the Voyager Universe Inferno mold yet? I'll have 2 Infernos, 2 Grapples, and 2 Hotspots. Only Artfire and Pyro remain "unique". So, HasTak, how about some green, heh?

After learning the definition I realized I am not. I 'completed' the cast of TF Prime in my opinion.

Years ago during A/E/C I tried to be. But then you start running out of room and also out of money.

So it changed to just "one of every mold, preferably the first release" ... but when you live in Australia, and a rural part at that, it becomes even harder to achieve that as not everything gets released here and if it does, there's no guarantee it'll find it's way here (hence why I spend more money with HLJ than my local retailer).

So now it's just a case of get what I like. However there is one that I ALWAYS aim to have regardless of how poopy it may be, and that's Optimus Prime (again, preferably first release) as I have a good collection of Optimus Prime/Convoy/Ginrai, and when (not if) the day comes that I really do scale down the collection, I'll have him and Ultra Magnus.

I wish

G1 season 1, I lack the 4 Dinobots (Grimlock's in btw) RB and Whirl and Jetfire (will the bandai re-issue suffice?

For the 'cons, No Thrust and Ramjet.

I just need a few Pretenders, Head, Target, Power, and Micromasters for G1 ... and *sigh* ... most of the Action Masters.

As I recover, thanks to skin grafts, may I mention that my initial TF collection was about having every single Optimus Prime figures ever. Then, I saw that I was getting overwhelmed and a bit bored of the "American flag". Then, Starscream was added as a character to collect. So, now my collection was supposed to be only about Optimus and Screamers. Nothing else.

Then, I checked the toy section at my local Walmart...

The rest is History.

So, I will NEVER have EVERY single OP and Screamers transformable figures, including repaints. There's just too much! Just having all of the V.U Inferno mold was costly enough... and there's only 8 toys of that mold so far!

I would say I am a completionist to the name/figure of Ultra Magnus.
My other secondary lines are G1 and MP. Those are the only 3 Lines I collect.

I used to be a character completest for Optimus and Megatron than it spread to Rodimus, Ultra Magnus, Nemesis/Scourge, and Galvatron. Then Grimlock and Starscream. And Jazz, Soundwave, and Swindle. By the time it got to Bumblebee the first movie came out and I threw in the towel. I still ended up with enough different FOC Swindle's to make a combiner out of. I call him Commerce Maximus.

I had to sell off most of my Classics right before Trailbreaker came out. So close!

Not a single completionist in here yet? Well I guess I'll poke my head in.

Even then, that term needs definition. By the loosest definition, no one is a completionist. To get every Transformers toy out there, from all countries, would require one to be very wealthy and have a ton of space. Maybe there's a millionaire out there fulfilling that dream, but they sure as heck aren't posting on the internet about it. Even then, you have to have some line drawn. Buying everything with the word "Transformers" on it is an absurd exercise and anyone attempting that needs to seek therapy for other issues, such as but not limited to OCD.

For me, "complete" is as follows:

- All US Hasbro Transformers toy releases

With the following exceptions:

- Repacks, where the figures inside the box or package are unchanged, don't count.
- "Role-play" products, like those masks and swords you see in every store these days, don't count.
- Completely non-transforming "action figure"-esque or licensed items don't count, with some exceptions - Rescue Bots vinyl figures "count", since these are pivotal to having even a complete show cast for that show, whereas Loyal Subjects figurines don't.
- Licensed products don't count, as these almost always fall under the above exception.
- Canceled products, even if they were released in other territories or if they came out here in "test markets". An example of "Test Market" stuff would be G2 ATB Megatron or Beast Wars Green Ramulus. That said, it is fun to track a bunch of these down, but by my own definition, they aren't US releases.

So, you may wonder where I am in this endeavor. I present to you the list of things I don't have yet, using my definition of "complete". This does not include current, ongoing lines where stuff is still coming out regularly (AOE, Rescue Bots, etc.)

Several Botcon Exclusives

'94 Breakdown
'95 Nightracer
'97 Fractyl/Packrat
'98 Antagony
'99 Sandstorm
'00 Apelinq
'05 Ratchet, Flare-up, and Flamewar
'06 Tigatron and Buzzsaw (box set not in my possession until January, but it's acquired)

Everything Else

- RotF Ultimate Bumblebee variant - didn't actually even know this was different from the '07 one until last week, could have bought this on clearance several times :(
- Universe 2.0 "Battle for the Cyber Planet Keys" set - the Bendy Prime in this is a unique deco.
- Armada Sideways - need the first release variant with slightly different deco on Minicon leg.
- 25th Anniversary "DVD" MP Optimus Prime
- 2010 TRU MP Grimlock
- SDCC "Rust in Peace" Cliffjumper. Just never got around to it.
- SDCC Knights of Unicron set. Same as Cliffjumper, just haven't gotten around to it yet.

There's some other stuff I go after, things like Kreo, the old Robot Heroes, all Minicons/Microns from around the globe, but I primarily just keep the focus right here on the releases from the good 'ol USA. A lot of what I need isn't hard to find or even really expensive, just haven't gotten around to playing catch-up on it all. It's been a long, fun journey to get where I'm at with this stuff, but it's very rewarding to see it all out in my collection room (for the most part) and I enjoy taking down a shelf, messing with the stuff on it, then rearranging it again from time to time. It's also really fun to take every version of a mold that there is and put them all together. Just Classics Rodimus figures can make quite a crazy rainbow!

I'm going to be a completionist for the new Hasbro numbered MP line. I got back into TFs with the MP-02 Soundwave and it's been easy enough so far to keep up with the line. I just wish they would actually announce them more. I know we're "supposed" to get Sideswipe and Blue Streak but we just got news of that from Botcon I think and that was it, nothing else ever mentioned again.

The only character I'd be a completionist for is Wheeljack. He's easy enough.

Yes, both Sideswipe and Bluestreak were shown in this year's Hasbro panel during Botcon. No specifics were given though.

I wanted to get a version of every character in TFP but the lack of decent, in-scale-with-anything Insecticons and that awful Airachnid stopped me from doing so. That's the only time I've come close to wanting to complete anything.

Multiple versions of a mold cost too much and take up too much space and don't really add anything to my collection.

i know another one im completing: universe cyclonus. i would honestly buy this figure in hot pink renamed arcee. him and springer are the best TF's in years. i believe the checklist goes as such...
universe cyclonus
henkei cyclonus
RTS battle in space cyclonus (rubsign)
asia(?) challenge of cybertron cyclonus (tampo insignia)
henkei strafe
botcon ferak
shattered glass cyclonus

i just got my SG cyc today, so that leaves one more. surprisingly, its the original universe version. which i actually have, but my dog (who doesnt even chew on things) randomly chewed him to pieces. now im just waiting to find one for a decent price.

Don't forget the e-hobby United clear version! It's super cool. If you go after Nightstick variants, the clear green Vector Oracle is stunning, and not stupid expensive by campaign micron standards :)

I have just about every Beast Wars figure ever produced save for some of the Lucky Draws, including all domestic and Japanese variants. I have every Botcon exclusive of a Beast Wars figure (though not character, as I never had any desire to own the now very high priced DoFP set from 2006). I have every repaint released under other lines, including the Japanese and US RiD Predacons (I have sooo many Transmetal Spittors in various decos it's ridiculous). I have (so far) every homage to Beast Wars, including ones done in the Movie lines as well as Classics/Generations/Henkei. I have tons of comic books, Japanese language art books and books about the lines and series, most of which I can only appreciate for the art and pictures since I can't read Japanese.

Aside from that, there's my MP collection. So far I have every single Masterpiece since the line rebooted with MP-10 of figures representing characters from the main line/TV series, including all of the on-screen repaints save Sunstorm and Acid Storm, who were too unlike their onscreen counterparts for my tastes. And while I don't really count Headmasters as part of my G1 cannon, I did buy SoundBlaster, not only for the exclusive Ratbat figure included with him, but also because I've always been a fan of the character and the black deco on Soundwave with the (my preference) purple chest window and red eyes. My Thundercracker is Hasbro, obviously, but everything else is Takara save Rumble (the purple one) who I purchased on ebay to replace my blue Takara version due to the more show accurate appearance of the domestic release. I probably won't be purchasing Takara's Skywarp since I already purchased a brilliant looking custom (made from an MP Acid Storm) from this seller/customizer. Mine looks very similar to this one and I suspect they came from the same customizer. One of his sold listings of his Skywarp custom with better photos can be found here.

Only the original G1 cartoon cast in MP 2.0 form. No random repaints or anything like that.

I did want to be a completist with Classics and especially the Classics Voyager Optimus Prime mold. Hilariously a day after I voiced my intentions of collecting every single incarnation of the Optimus Prime mold, the Lucky Draw version was announced  So yeah, I said f that.

Just can't afford to buy up every single figure I want. Wish I could, but there are a ton of figures, and I don't have a ton of cash. I would really like to complete the Alternators/Binaltech figures, but it will be a while.

Hell no and glad I'm not. I think if I were I would have around 5x more in TFs figures and things are starting build up I'm sad to say.

I think with the acception of G1 (except WST), Beast Wars, and Machine Wars of which I have none, I don't think I own a single line that is complete.

I'm not a fan that has a all time fav and has EVERY single TF representing that TF cuz there is a lot of crap out there (IMO) and I don't collect crap.

I'm not a fan that must complete a single line cuz every line (IMO) has plenty of crap and I don't collect crap.

Funny thing is my wife seems to think I collect crap but I just don't get it. :P :VEHI:
