I found this listing on eBay and I was just wondering if this is an authentic reissue. http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-G1-Transfor ... 4189dd706a

I can't find any mention of a reissue of Shockwave on TFwiki. I was thinking of buying this, but I don't want to buy a KO.

It's a KO on the virtue of there being no G1 Shockwave reissue ever. Plain and simple. Other figures that have never gotten official reissues, but as KO's they have, include:

- All G1 Dinobots
- Sunstreaker
- Mirage
- Wheeljack
- Shockwave

Reissues never come in vintage US packaging, so if you see "reissue" combined with US boxes, it's a fake.

By the by, the reason why they never got reissues is either lost or broken molds (that's what they say), or in the case of Shockwave, rights getting in the way.

How much did you paid yours? Years ago, I paid mine for 90$ shipped. And yeah, it's a KO. The hose is now all cracked up, but the overall figure is well constructed and rock solid. So if your's is like mine, it's a KO, but a solid toy nonetheless.

However, leave a neutral rating for false advertizing.

Yes, I am pretty sure that this product is definitely a KO as Transformers toys till now has not reissued.

And many never did. None of the Dinobots were reisues for example, as well as Shockwave.

BTW what price is that KO Shockwave?

Are you referring to the original, or the KO?

If one were to "accidentally" (because, of course, I would never support the KO market) ;) purchase a KO, could rust be prevented by applying some kind of protectant?

There are several Reissue lines between TakaraTomy and Hasbro, they include:

- Commemorative Series (the one in this line tend to be retooled for US Toy Safety Laws)
- Transformers Collection
- Transformers Encore

There are also several stand-alone reissues, some with differences or improvements over the original. They're all from Takara, and include:

Regular
- 01 Convoy (Optimus Prime)
- C-69 Ultra Magnus
- C-78 Hot Rodimus (Hot Rod)
- 22 Starscream
- C-310 God Ginrai (Powermaster Optimus Prime with Apex Armor)
- C-77 Rodimus Convoy (Rodimus Prime)
- D-98 Sixshot
- D-78 Predaking

Special Reissues
- 01 Convoy New Year's Edition
- 16-S Megatron
- C-372 Star Convoy
- D-62-S Galvatron (cartoon color)
- TRF-13-S Battle Convoy (Laser Optimus Prime)
- Predaking (released during the Encore line)
- Sixshot

I may have missed some, but you get the idea.

I would think it's rights, but didn't Sky Lynx and a few other non-Takaras get a reissue? I'm guessing the only non-Takara G1 with completely insurmountable rights issues would be Jetfire. That's not to say rights might not play a part (maybe they could get the rights but they'd cost too much to make it worthwhile) but given how many variations of the pre-Shockwave were around back in the day, if they molds even still exist, they must be pretty degraded.

I could be entirely wrong, I admit. Just musing off the top of my head.

Encore Omega Supreme and Sky Lynx were happy accidents, really. Both were originally by ToyBox, a competitor, or so we thought. As luck would have it, after the Takara-Tomy merger, it came to light that they were in fact outsourced to Tomy, and the copyright defaulted to them. Because of the merger of assets, the two became available for TakaraTomy to use for reissues.

The rights to the Shockwave toy are... muddled, we don't know who currently has them. As for Roadbuster, Whirl, Jetfire and the Deluxe Insecticons, they were originally by Takatoku Toys... which went bankrupt and was bought by Bandai. Full stop there.

Speaking of Deluxe Insecticons, did you know that if it wasn't for Transformers the Ransack mold would never have seen the light of day? The Beet Vadam toy on which he's based was canceled thanks to Takatoku Toys going belly-up, but Bandai saw fit to license (and possibly complete) the mold along with the others to Hasbro for Transformers. :)

The KO. Even in package, the metal pparts in between his crotch area are already rusting.
