G1 Minibot Characters and Your "Classics" Shelf

With the Generations Legends class figures this year and next, the line-up of Minibot Autobots from 1984-85 is nearly complete! Hasbro seems willing to repeat characters it's done before in the new "Legends" size class, and with Powerglide confirmed and others like Warpath rumored to be following, I wouldn't be surprised to see a new Brawl and Beachcomber too. That begs the question. Will you keep the large size classes of some of the earlier "Classics" releases in your "Classics/neo-G1" display, such as deluxe Bumblebee (any number of 'em), Cliffjumper, Warpath, voyager Seaspray, and ultra Powerglide, or will you switch them out for the roughly scout sized Legends figures when they are available, preserving the scale of the G1 toy line, and to a degree, the G1 cartoon as well?

Nope. I'm happy with the scale of my minibots being deluxes. And I don't have any at the voyager scale, as that would be a bit big, but that's more to do with me not liking the designs.

My seaspray is that cybertron scout hovercraft which i will paint up one day, and my powerglide is the cyberverse dotm guy.

I'll keep what I have and get whatever is coming out. These things are great.

I will keep both; one to reflect its "real" size a la RTS Seaspray or Universe 2.0 Powerglide and one to reflect their minibot form.

Depends on the individual. I love the look of the Legends Insecticons, although I'm not sure if I'd have them as my "main" Insecticons or have them in a Legends setup. For Seaspray, Powerglide and Warpath I want to get the Universe toys, which give them more appropriate size and also look awesome, especially Warpath (also the irony of Seaspray of all guys being this hulking brute is delicious). Cosmos looks pretty awesome and I might very well pick him up.

I plan ahead, and... well it's a good mix. I already have some of the larger ones, due to lack of Generations here. My planned list with the ones I need in italic:

Season 1
Bumblebee: Classics/Henkei
Cliffjumper: GDO
Windcharger: RtS
Huffer: Generations (upcoming)
Gears: Generations
Brawn: ???

Season 2
Warpath: Generations Deluxe
Seaspray: 2010
Powerglide: undecided, probably Universe
Cosmos: Generations
Beachcomber: ???

Season 3
Wheelie: Universe
Outback: ???
Tailgate: Legends
Hubcap: ???
Swerve: Generations

As for Bumblebee's Goldbug form: Generations Goldfire which explains my choice for Cliffjumper

Back in the '80s when I was a lad, those lil tiny toys where pocket sized and great fun to play with.
As I got older, those old toys broke, sold them off at a car boot sale or donated to a couple of charity shops when we moved house.

Fast forward many years to when my interests in Transformers figures piqued.
Alternators and 'Classics' brought me back and I am thankful.

All those timeless characters reimagined for the current generations, easily available with disposable income, I was back into Transformers and loving every minute! ;)

I adored the modern take, clever engineering and awesome sculpting and in no way what so ever did I want those boxy, simple engineered, brick-formers from an age ago.
They had their time and that time was long gone.

With the excitement of those old characters being made in new, modern ways and updated super detailed alternate modes, I wanted them to scale together in their alt mode because that was the sensible way they should be seen. :D

I want my planes to transform into a huge bots which look down on their comrades, those big rigs to transform into large bots which look up to those airplanes but down on the car bots.
It just makes more sense as an adult collector! ;)

I want my collection to reflect realistic alt mode scaling and bot modes that offer a G1 likeness. :BOT: :CON:

I don't sweat the sizes. Transformers have never been correct in scale. If I can get proper sizes that's great, but I'm happy just to get all the characters.

I have the whole minibot lineup in one shape or another though I may switch when more appropriate figures come along.

The current lineup I use is:

Season 1
Bumblebee: Henkei
Cliffjumper: Classics with Beelzeboss "Devil Horns" head
Windcharger: RtS
Huffer: iGear MW-02 Rager
Gears: iGear MW-05 Cogz
Brawn: iGear MW-MW-03C Hench

Season 2
Warpath: Generations Deluxe
Seaspray: 2010
Powerglide: Universe
Cosmos: Generations
Beachcomber: Henkei

Season 3
Wheelie: Henkei
Outback: iGear MW-08 Bushwhacker
Tailgate: Generations
Hubcap: Generations Deluxe Bumblebee with RF-012R Hub Warrior head
Swerve: Generations
Pipes: iGear MW-09 Tubes

I am perfectly happy having my Minibots at Scout/Deluxe scale. However I like Ultra Powerglide and Voyager Seaspray. They just feel better at that size.

When it comes to scale, I tend to prefer the robot modes being ROUGHLY in scale with what they were supposed to be onscreen. So, yes, while I like the humongoid Seaspray and such, and Warpath is one of the best deluxes to date (IMHO), if i had a "dedicated" G1 Reborn shelf, it'd probably have the Legends there instead.

Interesting responses so far. I recently swapped out Henkei Bumblebee and GDO Generations Cliffjumper for Legends Bumblebee (Evolution 2-Pack version) and Legends Cliffjumper. I like how they're scaling with the rest of my Autobots now, but I do wish the paint apps were more "screen accurate." I'm not going to get rid of my deluxe versions, no any of my Classics figures, because I do like having different options and versions as my preferences vary over time. With the exception of some molds that just don't compare any more (BotCon 2007 Springer/Universe 2008 Springer vs. Generations Springer) or Hasbro vs. Takara versions that just aren't really that different (Henkei Prowl and Sideswipe versus their Universe 2008 versions, for instance), I try to get all options out there for "Classics" characters.

I actually do have multiple figures of some of these characters such as legends Bumblebee and Cliffjumper and Deluxe Wheelie and Swerve. I tend to go with what figures I like better for what characters. Legends Warpath is closer to his original scale but I like the deluxe better while the reverse is for Wheelie. I would like to get the Legends Powerglide which I think looks better and really would like a better Pipes but don't see him coming anytime soon.

BotCon 2007 Huffer and Cybertron Armorhide are my "Classics" Huffer and Pipes. Even though we have a "proper" Hasbro Huffer coming down the pipeline (no pun intended), I'm not quite sold yet on him being a retool-repaint of Legends Optimus Prime. Maybe my opinion will change when I can see the finished product in person, but for now, I'm happy with the Cybertron Armorhide mold. The size works very well with the rest of the Legends figures.
