as im sure everyone knows, there are many versions of our pal EMOP here. which is pretty amazing since the mold is only a year(ish) old. im counting nine in total, ten if you include the gold lucky draw (which i dont because, come on!). i have seven of them, which are the ones that arent ridiculously hard to find or expensive to buy. so i thought id make this thread and showcase the differences between the attainable versions with some new pics (from my GF's proper camera). but first, heres the list (in order from left to right in my pics):

-hasbro retail
-takara retail
-hasbro target grimlock voyager 2-pack
-takara TRU rusty
-hasbro TRU evolutions 2-pack
-hasbro platinum breakout battle 3-pack
-hasbro platinum autobots united 5-pack
*not pictured*
-takara expo black/nemesis
-milk magazine lucky draw
-gold lucky draw

*pics are big and high res, so if you want to right click "view image" you see them bigger and zoomed in for more details* ;)

Man, if I get any of this mold, I will go for the screen accurate white guy. Otherwise, I don't really care to have any of the others.

which one would that be? the most unfortunate part of these EMOP's is that none are actually screen accurate. some are close, but dont hit it right.

That's annoyed me greatly. How hard would it be to develop a "Premium" figure with a much more screen accurate deco? I wouldn't mind paying a bit extra if it actually looked like the movie, instead, I just grabbed the original "G1" release. No point getting any others.

in another thread i had mentioned that i had become an EMOP completist kinda by accident.

-takara retail (first one i got. was better than hasbros and planned to be the only one)
-hasbro target grimlock voyager 2-pack (actually bought it for the gimlock)
-takara TRU rusty (first revealed rusty one. and i liked it)
-hasbro TRU evolutions 2-pack (wanted the 2-pack for the classics prime)
-hasbro platinum breakout battle 3-pack (simply liked it. another neat rusty version)
-hasbro platinum autobots united 5-pack (bought it for the other four)
-hasbro retail (last one i got. twas on sale, and at this point why not?)

i do still plan to buy the black version, but i passed on it initially thinking it wouldnt be hard to find or as expensive as it was out of the gate. i didnt really want to do the gallery until i had him. but it might be a while, and he doesnt really fit with the other anyways.

@shajaki
Awesome pictures; the lineups look great.
Only question is, are getting the Ginrai upgrade kit for any of these??
I have the TRU Evolutions 2 pack version and really only wanted the Classics.
But now with this kit on preorder, it has given me a new appreciation for the mold.

thanks! the hopes for this was to help people choose between the many versions, without having to google 284 different images. that and side by side comparisons cant be beat.

and youd think with all my versions, that id want to ginrai up one of them. if there was a fire guts EMOP and likewise ginrai set, id be all over it. for some reason when i think ginrai, i think fire guts. but im still considering it, mostly for the target chromey EMOP.

My favorite is actually the "Autobots United" version. It's my X-mas present this year, so I can only stare at him through the window on the box, but I already know it's my favorite (I've got the Hasbro individual release and the Evolutions 2-Pack version too). Something about the G1 homage plus the added details in all the right places (and the mouth place) really hit it out of the park for me.

agreed. the only thing that stops AU prime from being perfect is his unpainted rims. MAN i wish those rims were painted. with all the details they picked out on him, im quite surprised they missed a glaring one like that. and as a matter of fact, the only other one with painted rims is the takara rusty version.

Doesn't the Takara mass retail one have painted hubcaps and rims too?

To my credit, the only one you specifically and explicitly mentioned with painted rims was the Takara "rusty" version, though I do see now what you meant. ;)

This is awesome Shajaki!

I am really surprised that the most screen accurate version, to me, is the breakout battle one. I find the tan suits it better than the white, which doesnt look good to me (Hasbro does win sometimes). The autobot united one is the best G1 homage for sure. The Target exclusive one is something I had not seen before (the Targets here never got it and I didnt know it existed) and looks pretty good, especially with having a faceplate. The only one I own is the evolution 2 pack and while I am glad to see that it is probably the one with the most paint apps out there, that also makes him the odd man out (espcially in alt mode). Everyone else is either trying to be movie accurate or a G1 homage, that deco is all about being an homage to the movie deco of the previous films. While this makes it quite an interesting deco, it also totally conflicts with the mold and original intention of the toy. However, it is the most probable deco of how the truck would have looked like originally if not rusted and faded to death.

yeah. the rusty guys are definetly odd. the takara one looks awesome, but head to toe white? thats not accurate at all and just comes off as "caked on dust" to me. though the truck mode is nice. hasbros rusty prime is more accurate, and looks pretty nice with that *almost* gun metal grey to break things up. but still, doesnt hit the nail on the head quite right.

OK, I'll be the anal person who points out that "Prime's" is possessive, not plural. :-B

Shay-Jay, ol' buddy, I think it's PRIME time you sought help with your addiction.

The line up shots are great. It's fun to see them all in one place.
I don't need to tell you I'm not a movie guy. I bought the TRU two pack also strictly for the Classics. After a few other Canadians beat some sense into me, I have learned to appreciate the figure. Still don't like his damn elbows, though. I DO like the flame job too.
It was first announced and pictured that this version would have the face plate. Too bad.

Is fire guts Ginrai the red and orange repaint?

the elbows are stange, but if you position them "un-gorilla'd" i think they look fine.

I kinda want Takara TRU Prime, not because he's screen accurate but because he's bleached white and looks like he's splattered with blood. If it weren't so cost prohibitive I'd buy an army of them and have them as Zombiecons. But I don't have the shekels so I'll most likely buy 1 and have him as a crazy murder-hobo version of Prime from an alternate future where both humanity and the Transformers are nearly extinct.

The last few weeks I've convinced myself to get them all since I have 2 already and 1 otw.

I need the 5 pack prime, rusty prime, bob prime, and nem. prime.
im kinda meh on the takara version so idk if I'll get it.

I'm gonna grab 2 DX9 kits and do god ginrai with chrome prime and IDW prime with the 5 pack version.

if DX9 does recolors/retools so be it. :BANG_HEAD:

Who would have guessed that the one with the worst deco would have come from Takara?

Wow, thanks for the comparison pix, shajaki!

I think the 5-pack one is probably the best (faceplate + colours.) Though I'm perfectly happy with my original Hasbro one. :)

I like the grayish one with the hint of flames. Tends to be the middle one in most of your pictures.

I agree that none are really what could be called screen accurate, but I think that one is about as close as it gets. I won't be picking any of them up though. I have been very disappointed with movie figures since DotM.
