Initial impressions of Devastator:

1: Holy crap! It's huge!
2: Wow. Some of these joints are REALLY tight.
3: The way the chest piece attaches is asinine.
4: This is an incredible figure.

Takara's UW 04 Devastator is now shipping from all Japanese retailers. Is your's on the way? To make the wait easier (or harder), Alfes has some great in hand pictures of this big beautiful behemoth. He compares to Hasbro's as well, especially the articulation. Just look at this Scrapper, doesn't this look like the rightful leader of the constructions?

TF Yuki also came out with a few more pictures but this time to show us how to position the feet properly for maximum stability. What a nice guy!

Hum. The differences between Hasbro and Takara decos are more minimal than I thought. I'm still going Takara for the guns, articulation, and overall improvements, but Hasbro's is a good show too. Not that I ever thought it wasn't. Still, this reaffirms my choice to get Takara's Devy, when finances permit.

Made my payment to Amiami earlier and now it's time to play the waiting game.

If the Hasbro version had come out before Takara made their announcement then I would've gotten the Hasbro version and would've been fine with it. However since Takara made their announcement before CW Devastator released, I went with them. I don't really display my figures and I like to pick them up, transform them and play with them so the elbows and extra weapons spoke to me. I don't mind having figures that lack a few points of articulation here and there like some Unicron Trilogy figures, but seeing that extra bit of articulation on the individual Constructicons put me over to the Takara side. I can't wait until I get these guys. After Devastator though is the long wait for Galvatronus. On top of the incredibly long wait for Thunder Mayhem. You just know that Impactor won't be the last figure so that's going to make the wait for the complete combiner just that much longer. At least Offroad can be a substitute if I don't sub him in for Starscream on Galvatronus.

**Addition**

Is it just me or does it look like you can deploy the new elbows on Mixmaster while in leg mode to clean up the back of his leg some? Why hasn't anyone showed this off yet? It looks like his two elbows do a complete 180 degree bend in the G1/CW/UW comparison picture and looking at the stability picture from TFYuki, it looks like nothing is blocking the new elbows when in leg mode. That way the arms can look like extra heels instead of just dangling off the back or trying to sit above the wheel by letting it sit in the hollow part of the arm.

I just wish something could've been done with the mixing drum. Some sort of split into two Gundam esque shields would've been nice. The odd shape of the drum could've been where you stick the guns while still hiding behind the shield

This toy confuses me so much -

Does it want to be akin to G1 Masterpiece?
Does it want to be IDW?
Just an homage to G1?

Its like half this set can't make up its mind about the other half. He looks great combined and then individually they're nice figues but as a set - I'm at odds.

I ordered mine the other day from Robot Kingdom when they said it was in stock December 12th. Haven't gotten a shipping notice yet. I haven't spent this much on figures in one shot in a looong time.

Thanks for the great pics! The good part is getting to see Takara's take on Devastator, but the downside is that I'm now more torn than ever over which version to get. Though I really appreciate the new head with retractable visor, added articulation points, silver-painted wheels, and individual hand-pistols, I actually prefer the bot-mode paint-schemes of the Hasbro version. Aside from the gaudy pinkish chrome, the SDCC one has the best/most sticker/tampo detail. If I could afford to, and if it were easy to do, I'd buy all three versions to swap-out parts and make an "ultimate" version. As it is, Takara may have made my Christmas gift dream come true! :-D

Hey guys... the UW Devastator has ratcheted shoulders!!!!

Ok, so barring the slight deco differences, here is the main differences in the molding (gotten from Gepard on TFW):

-New elbows/lower arms on Scrapper, Mixmaser, Long Haul, and Hook.
-New combiner head.
-New knees/thighs on Bonecrusher and Scavenger.
-New waist joints on Bonecrusher and Scavenger for combiner mode shoulder ratchets.
-New G1 accurate guns for each robot.

That is a lot of structural work; I just cannot accept how far off-base hasbro had to have theirs; it also makes the memory of them hyping this figure at botcon even more laughably hilarious - as UW devs had been revealed earlier that day :lol:

That sounds amazing. I think I made the right choice waiting for this version instead of going for the Hasbro version. It's been a major test of patience but the wait is nearly over. :-D
