G1 MISB or MIB Value

I have come across a chance to buy a G1 Jazz with rub sign that is at least MIB and potentially MISB. The figures bubble is definitely sealed. I have never purchased a MIB G1 and was hoping someone could help me decide what to offer. I would love to add it to my collection but I'm not sure what to pay.

Thank you!

Is it from ebay?

Before you offer check if it's a KO. And if you do plan on playing with him, whynot order the Encore version?

Concerning KOs, check the TF KO thread in the Non TF section. Hope this helps.

I don't plan on opening and it's not on eBay. A friend of a friend out of the blue. I'm not concerned with legitimacy just trying to get an idea of what I should spend.

Being an original or not affects the price you should be willing to spend.

MISB - $150-$200 depending on box condition. (edit: A super nice box could drive this way, way up. Super minty sealed G1 figures fetch a hefty price because people grade them.)

MIB - $100-$170 depending on box condition.

Loose/complete (just to be thorough) - $40-$80 depending on box condition.

Also ensure if just MIB that all the paperwork is there (tech spec decoder, stickers, instructions, catalog, etc), as this can affect what you should pay.

Finally, be sure it's also not an Encore or E-hobby reissue, as these don't command nearly what I've quoted up there. Vintage Jazz figures are in much, much more demand than any of the reissues because his face was recast for the reissue and does not look super great compared to the originals.

Hope that helps, and keep in mind it's just me talking based on experience so this shouldn't be taken with 100% confidence :)

I'd say offer $20.00 tops. If the seller insists on a vintage price then have him/produce all the needed papers there is.

The Encore version fixed the face mold using the Stepper TFC release mold. TFC 01 on the other hand still had the sucky face.

Thanks for all the input. I'm hopefully attaching a pic. I have not seen this figure listed as a knock off. I have the dinobot knock-offs. So I know that some look very convincing. Anyone seen a Jazz knock-off?

I'm actually not aware of Jazz knockoffs. I'm sure they're probably out there but they're not common enough to even have ID guides. Looks legit. Box is pretty good but not immaculate. Sealed vs. not, and then what paperwork is/isn't there if not sealed, is going to really determine the fair price for something like that. Good luck!

Indeed there haven't been any Jazz KO's reported so far, but that doesn't give it a 100% guarantee of every Jazz being real :)

That said, I can tell by the yellowed door that piece has some age to it, usually KO's are pristine.

Oh, didn't see that before. Yep, that would knock some definite value off of my earlier estimates.

Now you're talking!

1.The box. Being 30 years old or something, how's the condition? Not a very good barometer though as you can easily change the box.
2.Look for spelling errors too.
3. Some Jazz figures released after the 1986 have no "Martinii" logos, your picture seems to have it.The ones without "Martinii is also legit.
4.Take a look at the wheel rivets. The KOs have sh#tty rivets.
5.Blister packs of KOs easily fall off the cardboard (not too good a barometer too as you can easily re-glue it.
6. KO tfs have their rub signs detached.
7. Yellowing in both blister pack and figure.

Hope this helps.

Again thanks for all the input. I'm going to take a look this evening. If I get him I'll post more pics later.

Turns out guy bought the figure through an estate sale and was more worried about finding a person who appreciated it more than price. Amazing these days.Figure is on a sealed card and a wonderful addition to my collection! I paid $60.00 and I'm very happy.

Very cool! You got a good price on that, and I'm very certain that's not a KO with the slight yellowing and other signs of age. :D

So here's the big question: It's "Antiques Roadshow" time. What's the going rate (value at auction?) for this?

Supreme has it right. I'm just happy. I know the figures value is more than what I paid. I'll let my son figure the true value when it's his.
