Best Shockwave For a Generations Collection?

Hi guys,
I'm a pretty big fan of Shockwave, yet I don't have a figure of him yet because I'm a bit of a n00b (I started collecting right before thrilling 30 I think)  . I was wondering, which shockwave is best for a generations collection? I was thinking the Voyager one from Prime, but I know there are other figures of him as well. Also, please note that I'm a student, so I try not to spend more than $40 a figure, unless it's a Leader Class or bigger.

If you want a cheap Shockwave, you can't go wrong with this guy:

Cybertron Shockwave

Kidding, kidding. Seriously though, Prime Shockwave is a good choice, but here are two you should also consider:

Generations / Arms Micron Shockwave
Image
Transformers Arms Micron Shockwave Gallery

This one is styled after the Fall of Cybertron game, and repurposed as G1 Shockwave in the IDW comics. Thing is, he's a really tiny Deluxe. The Arms Micron version replaces his cannon with a Rhinoceros Beetle Micron called Bido, if you're into bugs, and uses stickers instead of paint. :)

Energon Shockblast

This guy is Voyager-sized and a Triple Changer (Tank, Satellite, Robot), though he has no articulation in his cannon arm. Still, he does the job of representing the character.

Honorable mention: Alternators Shockblast

Sure, he's no gun and his name was "blastified" thanks to trademark problem. He turns into a licensed 1:24 scale Mazda RX-08, and has all of G1 Shockwave's iconic features.

There has been a lot of debate on this subject, but for me BH Shockwave is the best. Energon Shockblast is also a good option.

I was thinking about Fall Of Cybertron Shockwave since I am a big fan of that game, which I ironically played before getting into collecting, however, he's a deluxe which seems kinda small for shockwave.

Hmm. Okay, I'll likely go with the BH one, but I will consider the Energon version if I can't find the Beast Hunters one for a good price.

If your going for the FOC Shockwave go for the Arms Micron one that looks the best out of the two of them. Also there's Mech Ideas upgrade kit that you can use if you have a spare RTS Jazz lying around. I know its a 3rd party product and its a no no on this part of the forum but it is another option for you to use.

Unfortunately, I don't have that Jazz figure. Now I'm thinking I'm going to buy the beast hunter one simply because of his affordable price, plus he's a voyager which I feel represents Shockwave better.

Depending on your opinion, Movieverse Voyager Shockwave is also an option. And if you don't mind the aesthetic, Animated Voyager is nicely alien.

Yeah that movie one looks badass! Unfortunately he's a bit expensive, so fingers crossed that a certain eBay seller (you know the one) has him one day.

Funny you mention that, I just won a DOTM megatron from Lena. I don't really have an interest in the Cloud version of shockwave, as I already own whirl, and feel that that mold represents whirl a better than it does Shockwave, (plus I don't like to double dip on molds) tho that mold is pretty nice.

EDIT: GAAAAAHHHH!! But it's ending so soon and the price is so good...... I feel like I'm gonna go schizophrenic over whether to buy it or not...

I gave in. I couldn't take it anymore. I decided to bid on the Cloud one Lena was selling.... Hopefully it's a choice I will not regret.

if you have the means, go for it! if you dont dig him, i bet you can re-sell him and get your money back ;)

As I said before, I'm bidding on Lena's. Still the highest bidder!!! Hopefully it comes with the instructions, as I have no idea how to transform him to his cannon mode, and after watching a video review, he does look really nice, plus Lena's awesome pricing helps.

I second that. Whichever one of these you can get for the cheapest will be your best option. We desperately need a voyager shockwave in the generations line, hence why I made sure he was included in my latest article.

Actually, I just remembered something, there is a "voyager generations shockwave" available right now. Takara redeco'd Generations Whirl into cloud shockwave.

And although he usually costs 80$ US, he sells for about 25$ right now on e-bay due to seller selling factory overstock. He wont come in a box or have instructions since he was never packaged but he is just as fresh off the assembly line.

Edit: should have read all the posts before posting, sorry.

It's too bad Takara couldn't have gone the extra mile with Cloud Shockwave and retooled the head. If it's a space issue because of Whirl's transformation scheme, I think a creative solution would have been to put a new head on a pivot so that it stores vertically for alt mode or can rotate 90 degrees for a horizontal position in robot mode. Maybe a third party will engineer a replacement head to do just that?

I don't think Generations Whirls' mold looks very good to be Shockwave. Doesn't look powerful enough. Plus...hes a helicopter. Shockwave should never be a heli.

Why not? Shockwave has the same problem as Megatron in the sense that he was first a gun. Since Hasbro can't distribute toys with that alt mode anymore, they have to keep finding other alt modes. Like Megatron, they usually rely on some type of tank for Shockwave (Movie, Energon, Prime). However, it could be any alt mode that isn't a gun and Megatron already did become a Helicopter with amazing results. So if Megatron can be a heli, why can't shockwave?

I agree, as I really don't mind Shockwave as a copter, plus I may buy the prime one in the future, it's just that I saw the cloud one available for so cheap so I figured I might as well go for it.

A word of warning regarding Energon Shockwave/Blast: His waist hinge is VERY fragile.

I think the Shockwave to go with is dependent on what your "Classics" collection looks like. If you've kept mostly to official product and have things like Henkei or Classics Megatron, the Energon (or even better, Superlink) version will probably fit that aesthetic better. Go! Hunter Shockwave is a great option too.

I think the AM/FoC probably fits in better if you've gone with a lot of 3P in with your Generations.

Tons of good options and really, just get the one (or many) that you like. I'm sure Shockwave could reformat himself at will just fine if he felt like it.

Any way the mods can close this thread? I've concluded that I will buy both Cloud Shockwave and BH Shockwave, so I feel that this thread has served its purpose.
