Are you asking why they are all gone now right?

Never saw a single one in retail stores.

This always happens with figures released around the holidays. I haven't figured out if retailers are light on orders before holiday or if they sell out stock during. I know my Walmart looks like a war zone after the holidays.

I hardly see any Transformers at WalMart, other than random peg/shelf-warmer stuff no-one seems to ever want.

This Christmas, all the stores were loaded down with AOE stuff. The stores wouldn't order the Generations stuff until they had room for it.

Unfortunately, unlucky is tending to be the way with some of these releases.
I ordered mine off Ebay just to be sure.
I only ever saw him once in the wild.

These were all over the place here for about three weeks in the lead up to Christmas. Had to swat away the Gears and Acid Storms at Walmarts and Targets.

Then they sold, and the retailers moved on to stocking CW legends. Gotta jump on the last wave of a line, they tend to not appear for very long! Although Gears was back and forth in stock on hasbrotoyshop.com for a really long time. Heck Acid Storm, his wavemate, is still available there.

Preorder online. That's the way to go nowadays. Waiting to hunt down the figures you want in brick and mortar stores is a big risk with the funky distribution issues of the last several years.

Never saw Gears in stores, and didn't see him in stock at HTS. Otherwise I might have jumped.

I'm praying overstock shows up at a discount chain, or that BBTS or TFsource get a restock. Otherwise I'll just have to bite the bullet and pay inflated eBay prices.

There's just one in ebay. Is he that rare?

I have to admit, I wasn't planning on this guy. Before I knew he was going to exist, I'd already plugged that hole in my collection with a third party option. (I may berate third parties that produce figures Hasbro has already done, but I cannot blame them for ones they do first!) But having recently gotten my hands on Swerve, if I ever do see a Gears out in the wild, I might just pick him up after all. (The operative word, I suppose, being the "if.")

I searched "transformers generations gears" yesterday and saw at least 4 or 5.

He sort of shows up now and then back in August 2014.

I had to have a friend in Canada grab a discounted Gears from the T.J. Maxx owned store called, Winners. Worked out well though because I snagged him a Brainstorm from T. J. Maxx here in the states. Gears and Acidstorm never appeared here in my part of the Midwest.

Gears was one of the few recent TF's that I wanted that I never had trouble finding. For a while they were all over the place, but not anymore. I think I saw one at a Target within the last month, or maybe it was a Meijers... Anyway, they did hit here and were not hard to find, but their time has passed, sounds like poopy distribution got to your area on that one.

Gears seems to have had a very limited release in the states for some reason. In Canada, he never saw a mass retail release but ended up being seen at Winners (TJ Maxx in Canada) discounted. Same thing in Canada with Cliffjumper and Nemesis Prime.
