Good Morning folks, hope you're having a wonderful day. I am writing to ask your opinions on the Masterpiece line up as I am a new collect. For those who may instantly thing "its your opinion", we all know its not that simple. Some figures just aren't created the same. I guess you could say Im trying to flesh out figures worth collecting vs those that should remain on the shelf. Please advise when you can and once again this is specifically in the Masterpiece series.

Not a single one of them is perfect. But by Primus, if I had the cash, I'd have gotten all of them.
MP-09 is said to be the most iffy next to MP-05 but owning one shouldn't stop you...........assuming you can find an original and not a KO.

I currently have the MP Sunstorm and Im not to fond of it. Its the Hasbro release, not the Takara. I know MP-10 was to be the start of the new scaling scheme, so should I avoid its predecessors? I believe MP-09 was Rodimus, was he really that bad? I could use a good Rodimuss figure.

My favourite, other than the gorgeous MP10 (Cyberpath knows what I'm talking about), is the G2 Sideswipe. Entirely for personal, affective reasons though.

MP Rodimus... has problems:
TFWiki.net wrote:Unfortunately, Masterpiece Rodimus has suffered from numerous quality control issues, which vary from figure to figure. Commonly reported problems include fragile leg panels which break off with ease, the inability of the figure to hold its guns due to shallow peg-holes which conflict with the bending angle of his hands, the springs within the figure's ankles becoming unwound, and the spoiler/backpack assembly refusing to clip into place. Mostly infamously, the slot on the trailer into which the spoiler slips is extremely narrow as a consequence of its interior being painted; as a result, paint is invariably scraped off the inside and leaves disfiguring marks on the spoiler when the figure is transformed to Rodimus Prime vehicle mode. A second production run, done shortly after Hasbro's release of the figure in a different deco, amended these issues and also featured some slight changes in paint colors, although the forked chest tab not quite locking properly still seems to be an issue.
In addition, the two redecos add two problems to the mix: Black Rodimus Convoy has very fragile knee joints (3rd Party die cast replacements are available tho), while the Hasbro version's shoulders tend to break off due to the strong springs.

Thanks again, this is the exact type of information I intended to receive. MP's are expensive, and I dont want to waste money. Once again I have Sunstorm, my 3rd purchase (MP-10) has been preordered. Im looking for something for now. Does anyone own Grimlock or WheelJack? Im also open to Soundwave, Ultra Magnus or BumbleBee. I may get the G1 SideSwipe as well.

If you're gonna go for Grimlock, avoid the 2014 re-release, go for the original TakaraTomy or Hasbro releases instead. The toolings used have not aged well, and the latest release is reported to have pretty loose joints.
Ultra Magnus is pretty ambitious, but it does what it's supposed to do pretty well. He's scaled to be the same size as MP-10's vehicle mode, so the robot mode may be bigger than you'd expect.

In my entirely personal opinion, masterpiece soundwave is the absolute best a transformer can achieve. Masterpiece ultra Magnus is a close second if not tied. I honestly feel you cannot be disappointed with these two masterpiece figures. They have become the absolute pride and joy in my collection. Soundwaves cassettes are pretty awesome too.

Think it all depends on what your looking for. Which characters are your favorites.
Think if you want durable strong Masterpiece Transformers toys. Masterpiece Grimlock and MP-10 Optimus are it.
If your looking for a big toy. With all the bells and whistles. Then MP-01 Convoy or Optimus is that toy.
MP-09 while it's Fragile. Some like it because it followed the cartoon animation design very closely.

Thanks all I have made up my mind.
April = Soundwave and Bumblebee
May = Optimus and Prowl
June = Grimlock and Wheel Jack
July = Ultra Magnus and Side swipe

MP-24 StarSaber is great for your collection even if you're not familiar with the character, but do mind that some has reported QC issues, like below:

Looks like a molding deformity.

The grey part is not assemble properly, so that peg ended up pushing it off the port it's supposed to go into and giving it some intense bent/stress plastic. The user did mention that it's still functional, though, just a super distracting sight.
