I want to start collecting Armada, Energon, and Cybertron toys but have no idea where to start, and I only want about 10 figures from each series, because I don't want to go broke. Whose who? Whose the best character, and whose the major players?
I gotta say I love the Starscream's from each series, should I start there?

Definitely pick up the Cybertron Starscream, though Ultra class and extremely large he is complete with crown and looks like his anime counterpart.
Though different in sizes, i'm not entirely sure which version of Starscream is better. The American Release looks to be a Ginormous remold of the Galxy force version, with a Crown added
Cybertron Supreme Starscream:
Box:

Cybertronian Jet mode:

Robot Mode:

Galaxy Force Starscream:
Box:

Cybertronian Jet Mode:

Robot Mode:

Sorry didn't mean to turn this into a Thread about Starscream, but since you asked...
If space is an issue I'd say go with the Takara Version, but if you want the crown and the huge version take the Hasbro rendition.
Anyone else know which is a better buy??

I'm basing these picks off the toys rather than the characters. Where there have been multiple colour schemes and slight remoulds I'm only listing the toy once, after that it's down to personal preference on which version you prefer although I'm adding a few notes where one version stands out from the others. Although not everybody's cup of tea I'd also recommend the Energon combiner teams if you can get a full set. I've left these off the main list partly because you need a full set to get the most out of them and partly because Energon had a lot of nice Basics that wouldn't have gotten a mention otherwise. These aren't listed in any particular order.
ARMADA
Hoist,
Tidal Wave,
Jetfire,
Deluxe Prime,
Predacon,
Overload (although you really need a Leader Prime to get the best out of him),
Cyclonus,
Starscream (Jap colours are nicer, all the recolours and remoulds bar possibly Universe Ramjet are worth looking at),
UNICRON!!! (essential, 'nough said)
ENERGON
Megatron/Galvatron (I prefer the smaller Jap version and with Megs this also has the nicer colour scheme, but the US Galvatron has the better colours despite being an oversized toy, up to you),
Starscream (I'd go for the US remould if possible),
Downshift,
Rodimus,
Scorponok,
Divebomb,
Battle Ravage,
Strongarm,
Arcee,
Dreadwing.
CYBERTRON
Leader Prime (awesome),
Scourge,
Starscream,
Vector Prime,
Hot Shot/Excillion,
Armorhide,
Soundwave,
Evac,
Unicron (just because, you know),
PRIMUS!!!
Just my picks though. While some of these will be listed by a few people there are some that others will disagree on. There should be galleries of pretty much all of them in the toys section of the site.

Thanks guys for the help I really appreciate it. I can't wait to go through the gallery section and look over the list. I hope they release the DVD collections of Each series so I can watch the whole thing back to back.
To answer your question, I am glad that you did do the list based on the toys.
That is totally what I wanted, the best toy from the series, that represents that character in the best way.
Thank you, Thank you!!
So if I need to go to Takara and then to Hasbro for another character, no Problem.
I may hold off on the Gestalts for now. Not too interested in that yet. What are the Best combiners for Optimus Prime?
I've seen pictures of his Cybertron Starsaber combo version, is that the best?
Is there a store you can recommend that has Unicron trilogy figures at
Great prices???

Probably, but the Energon Wing Sabre combinations (it goes two ways) make a vast improvement to two toys that aren't all that great on their own. I'm really not that bothered about the Cybertron 'Savage Claw' combination with Leobreaker. The Armada combos with Jetfire and Overload are fun, I spent quite a bit getting the rare clear version of Overload just to display in combined mode, but I've left the Leader Class Prime from that series off the above list as the Deluxe (affectionately known as Bendy Prime) is just a better toy on it's own despite not having any combination features. The Deluxe Prime from Energon that was only available in the West as a two pack with the smaller version of Megs will do a 'Powerlinx' combination with any of the deluxe Autobots from that line as either upper or lower body, but most of the possible combos are a bit dodgy looks wise.

So I should get the deluxe prime from Armada, and the Deluxe Prime from Energon?
Is the Deluxe prime from Energon a bad buy, I know he is a combiner of sorts.
So the Trailer gimmic isn't worth the price for the Armada Figure? Is the Leader Class Armada Prime considered one of the Worst primes made?

http://www.hasbrotoyshop.com - Has a few sales going on, including 1/2 off of Primus. That's a good place to start.
Good luck on the hunt!
P.S. Get Dreadwing/Mirage from Energon.

cool
Well that solves a couple of the figures I need to get, but are there any other stores that are cheap and have them for sale???

I'm trying to not have to go through ebay, as much as I can.

Just to clear somethings up.
The Deluxe Prime from Armada is one of the best moulds to date. Its Cybertron Repaint is very nicely detailed, and will probably be easier and cheaper to get (although you wont get his minicon partner, instead you'll get a Cyberkey).
In the Armada Series there was a Nemesis repaint of that same deluxe figure, that looks pretty cool except for the Tan colored grill. The Takara Nemesis(Scourge) is better looking, with the silver instead of Tan.
Leader Class Armada Prime, is just a huge brick. in Normal Mode, and even Worse combined with his auto-transforming trailer. So its really not that good of a gimmick. He looks better combined with Jetfire. And just use his trailer as a minicon base instead of combining him with it.
Energon Prime Got 2 releases, the Leader Class that combines with his Prime units or Wingsaber or Omega Sentinel aka Omega Supreme (Repaint)
and his Deluxe Version that combines with any of the Energon Autbots as was said.
Most people don't like the Leader class because it looks like something from a Power Rangers series. Combined With Wing Saber however he looks Pretty Good. His combination with Omega Supreme or Sentinel, doesn't really add anything to the figure. Its basically just prime encased in Omegas' body. with only his head popping out at the top.

I don't know which version of Cybertron/Galaxy Starscream is better????

But If you want to save space I say go with the Galaxy version, only i have noticed there is another version out there where the paint applications are different..

That'll be the one from the TRU 2 pack. It's a redeco of the smaller Starscream (same size as the Jap version) in more or less G1 Thrust colours supplied with a Vector Prime redeco.

So as an essential for the New Cybertron/Galaxy buyer, in you opinion, which Starscream is the best choice?

I'd generally have said the original Galaxy Force release on the grounds that it's the size the toy was meant to be and in the proper colours. The problem of course is that it's now probably about the most expensive and hard to find. The Supreme version does have the bonus of the crown (does this come with all Supreme Screamers or was it one of those 1st wave sort of deals like the Unicron head with Primus btw?) and it ties in to the cartoon nicely since Starscream wound up the same size as Primus. For a new collector probably the Supreme, despite it not being my personal favourite.

I agree and i think though that you should add one more to this check list and that should be Galvatron, love him or hate him, he's about the best version of Megatron with those colors and he's got a Bat Mobile mode!!!
So a total of 11 figures for Cybertron, and I agree with the other posts on the Armada Optimus Prime, the deluxe version is much better and more articulated, though the Leader Class fits with your soon to be new collection, I think though that you should go smaller on those releases because the real payoffs come in the Cybertron/Galaxy force versions.
Energon optimus Prime is kind of a toss up from what I can tell.. but then again my advice is based solely on what I have seen in the Gallery and reviews I read online, I'm not into the Unicron Trilogy, but it does intrigue me to look at the figures and toys for that particular line.
However I did own some Armada Figures, which I have since sold or given away..

Even though I agree the Voyager sized Starscream is an awesome figure. The problem is going to be finding one that doesn't cost you an arm and a leg.
Be it Hasbro's Thrust colored very limited release, or Takara's release. They are very sought after.
Supreme class however should be easier to find. But he's not as impressive, as his smaller counterpart. Although still a very nice figure.

Wow you guys know alot, thanks for the help and the input. Are there any other figures in the Unicron trilogy line up that would serve me better by getting either a Hasbro version VS the Takara Version??

Micron Legend Shockwave has show accurate purple colouring as opposed to the green on Armada Tidal Wave.

Cybertron : Don't really know

Gaargh! Shockblast totally slipped my mind. Alt modes are a bit funny and his cannon arm thing is not the greatest design that they could have come up with, but yes he should be down as an essential Energon figure just for the G1 Shockwave homage.

To be honest I'd start by concentrating on those two lines and let Armada take a back burner for a while with the exceptions of Bendy Prime and Unicron. For one thing it's a lot of figures to be trying to track down all at once. The main reason though is that Armada just isn't as nice of a line overall. When it was launched the theory was to simplify the toys after the rather complex Robots in Disguise line that had come before. The toys were designed to be as kid friendly as possible, largely to bring a new generation into the TF collecting world, which lead to simpler transformations and a general lack of articulation. Technically and astheticly the Energon and Cybertron toys are generally superior and have the advantage of being somewhat easier to find since they were released more recently.

Good point. I am ordering a Takara Released Optimus Prime from Cybertron, which is in the Korean Box, which makes him 20% cheaper then most ebay auctions I have found.
