Question about childhood memories ;-)

Hey guys,

I hope it's ok to ask a question!

"Normally", I'm a Masters of the Universe collector, but I'm also very much interested in the Transformers. But this world is SOOO HUGE that I just have to ask you experts a question which is on my mind for many many years now:

Somewhere between 1985 and 87 (I think), my family went on vacation to Austria (I'm from Germany). I remember that we visited a toystore, and there on the floor stood a large Transformers box or package. I mean, from my childhood memory, it was REALLY BIG, maybe 80cm / 30 inches or more high & wide.
And I think to remember that the word Cybertron was printed on the box. I remember that I thought "Wow, that must be the planet Cybertron as a huge robot! Does this really exist?" I only knew the normal "small" Transformers figures, and the size of this box just made me very curious.

Sadly, this is all I can say. Of course, those memories are very old now, and maybe they play tricks on me :-) Maybe someone has an idea which could help me out to answer one of the oldest questions in my life ;-) Any suggestions, links or whatever would be great!

There was a HUGE transformers toy released in 1987 which turned into a fortress. It's Fortress Maximus, here is what his box would have looked like:

They didn't make a Cybertron planet that turned into a transformer until much much later but I think because you were in Europe you might have gotten some Japanese stuff imported there. The reason I say this is because in Japan, it is not Aubotots vs Decepticons it is Cybertron vs Destron. Over there, every autobot is a Cybertron. So it could be that it was a Japanese release of a good guy (like Fortress Maximus) that was written Cybertron on the box. That is my best guess.

Man, when there were not other large Transformers at that time that may be it, great!

Would be cool to see a european box...

By the way: where can I find pictures of the mentioned later released Cybertron planet that turned into a transformer?

Don't get me wrong but you did read the post that responded did you? Back in the 80s there was a not released Unicron

Of course I did.

Quote william-james88:
"They didn't make a Cybertron planet that turned into a transformer until much much later"

But thanks for the Unicron links anyway.

I highly recommend checking out our home grown galleries.

Primus (Cybertron)

Unicron
(Though I'm not sure how Unicron even came into this conversation)

fenrir pointed out that there was an unreleased Unicron figure from the 80s that turned into a planet.

As a supposed authority figure, shouldn't you pay attention once in a while? >:oP

As Rodimus Prime mentioned, a question was raised on a "robot" that transformed into a planet back in the 80s. Or to his recollection. Back then, only 2(?) Unicron prototypes were ever made but not released commercially. Since I'm not a walking encyclopaedia like stovokor or Sabrblade, I just linked him to the wiki.

Thanks Rodimus.

Did the Fort Max box mention Cybertron anywhere on the packaging?

I already gave away the box of my Encore reissue so I can't check it myself...

You GAVE your box away?!

Anyway, unless you can read Romanji, Fortmax is referred to as such.......Cybertrons/Autobots

But given how the thread is about "childhood memories".......there might be some overlapping in the OP recall.

One suggestion, maybe Cerebros was mistakenly read as Cybertron by an excited child.

I know I misread names of a few Transformers when I first encountered them in the store back then. *cough*OptimumSupreme*cough*

 Yes that may be, those are veeery old memories ;)
But I think william-james88's suggestion is correct (Fortress Maximus), and that's all I wanted to know

I was looking at the box that was out in the 1980s and the word Cerebros jumed out at me and then I remembered this thread. That could easily turn into a memory of thinking a giant transformer turned into cybertron.
