Masterpiece Hot Rod Prototype Revealed

We reported on the possibility of a future Masterpiece Hot Rod, due to the tease shown in this article: http://www.seibertron.com/transformers/ ... oon/33914/

We're now able to confirm (yes, confirm!) it's legit! Takara Tomy is indeed making a Masterpiece Hot Rod and K-Hobby's Twitter feed is the first to show us the new proto in it's infancy.

As you can tell, this is still quite early in the process, but it at least gives you a good idea of what's coming and what we should be able to expect. Fantastic news for all of us!

You can compare MP-09 Rodimus Convoy to this new Hot Rod mold by checking out the 2010 release of Rodimus in our galleries by clicking here and here.

UPDATE: Thanks to fellow Seibertron news staffer, LOST Cybertronian, we've found new images courtesy of the hobbylog.jp blog and you can see them below:

Wow that's a lot of detail missing. Very VERY much at the early stage.

I'm sure though SillySpringer will be adding it to his list of things to get. :-P

So does Hot Rod's thing say MP-28 or is it just question marks like Shockwave's card? Guess there's no telling with this batch of pictures.

Awesome!

NEVER liked Rodimus... but was a huge fan of Hot Rod. Started my mp collection with MP10, so didn't have a use for anything scaled before that :D

So far I think he looks good. It looks like the chest piece is intended to clip into place somehow and the shoulders may collapse in more. My only big concern is, from looking at what can be seen of the back pack, it looks like it will have a similar, if not the same, transformation as Mp-09; I was not a fan of that transformation.

Man! I'm usually Mr. Hip Hip Hooray, Gimme Gimme Gimme, but he might be a little TOO toon accurate for my tastes. But I'm sure once they slap some flames on it, I'll forget I ever said that.

Already looks like an improvement over the last one. Those elbow joints look to be kibble free! It would nice if it had a lot of the same gimmicks and accessories as the last one, but I can live without them.

Never cared for Rodimus, but after reading MTME comics, yeah sure, I'll take an MP Hot Rod. Also, just cancelled my Quakewave. I'll support TT! :KREMZEEK: :KREMZEEK:

2 things I want to see:

The alt mode (I bet it is super sleek)
The price below those question marks

Can't wait to pose him him next to Magnus.

I'm excited for both figures! Just a couple of quick thoughts that come to mind regarding each one ... Shockwave seems a little short standing next to Rodimus. I would have expected him to be much larger. It seems like he's just about the same height (or possibly shorter) as the Seekers. Rodimus looks great, just hope they end up putting those screws at the bottom part of his arms on the other side of his wrists/lower forearms. It looks really bad just having a screw right there in the middle of some detailing.

Do you think it will be a better scale than this?

Just a question, did they interact much in the movie before he became Rodimus Prime?

As for Shockwave's height, I'm assuming Hot Rodimus is the same height as previous Autobot cars such as Prowl. Maybe he's a little bit taller like Ironhide.

Hot Rodimus/Hot Rod should be much smaller ... and will look much more in scale as Hot Rodimus, whereas Hot Rodimus is largely out of scale. As Rodimus Convoy/Rodimus Prime, he was pretty much properly in scale with Ultra Magnus and Optimus Prime.

Hot Rod's big scene with Ultra Magnus was the death of Optimus Prime and the handover of the Matrix.

Cant believe I didnt think of that. All I could think of was Optimus dying trying to save Hot Rod, and of Ultra Magnus dying trying to open the matrix. Totally forgot about that gut wrenching scene between the two.

Bought. Takara just needs to tell me where to send my credit card to.

Aside form Prime's deathbed and Magnus' resurrection on Junk they had no scenes together.

Definitely need to wait to see how this one turns out, but not too shabby for a prototype :BOT:

I hope the mold isn't final. This seems to have a "floating" pelvis like the old Kobayashi figures where you need to flip the panel up in order to pose.

Takara, please stick to the "Hasui" method, like you do with the hands.

Wouldn't being Seeker height put Shockwave at about the same height as Optimus and Soundwave, though? Sounds near right to me.

It's a VERY early prototype.
