Masterpiece Megatron question?

This is going to seem funny me asking this but I might buy myself a Masterpiece Megatron and I noticed on about all the sites that sell him that the original silver version is quite a bit more than the newer gold version that is also offered. Anybody know why that is? :???: :-? Is the silver one made better than the gold one or is there some other reason for that? I am leaning towards the gold version because I think gold looks really cool on Megs but I like the silver as well so was just curious if there is a quality difference or something for the prices to be so different. If nobody replies to this that is ok. Kind of a funny question anyway. Just can't help being curious about why there would be a price difference if they are from the same mold? :CON:

It's simple really: age, plus availability. Older toys tend to be less readily available to buy, and that drives the price up compared to newer releases. Basic economics in this hobby, doesn't matter whether it's a new mold or a simple redeco. In MP Megatron's case, he's a good 8 years old, being released in 2007, so he'll have a price to match his age.

Now that you're talking about quality, MP Megatron does have a few issues you need to be aware of. he has thin plastic clips that tend to break off if you're not careful, plus the metal pieces tend to tarnish and rust. Plus, being a Firearm Replica, he may be difficult to actually import into some countries (Australia is especially notorious for that). Check your local gun laws!

The Gold one is new and less popular. So many shops that have him are still selling him at either the MSRP or lower inorder to get rid of stock. The older silver one is the one fans prefer and there arent any left at original retailers so everything you see is secondary market.

Yeah I read some old posts on here about how easily broken MP Megatron is so yeah I will take that under advisement about being careful when transforming him. Shame they had to be in such a rush when they designed him. :-( I watched some Youtube videos two of him being transformed so I will make sure to take my time and not try to set a world record on transforming him to either mode. Yeah I have always been good at transforming transformers since I have been collecting them in the late 80's when I was got my first Transformer Skullcruncher when I was 4 for X-Mas. So yes I will be careful. Thanks for telling me about the pins since I might not have known. I plan on getting Xtranbots Apollyon as well since I like that versions robot mode even better. Too bad Takara didn't have that design instead since he is even more cartoon accurate. But I would say the official MP Megatron has a better gun mode. I guess a trade off so that is why I will get both. If I get MP Megatron I am also going to get the add on kit with the metal grips and buttstock and silencer. I am also going to do like some people on another topic said. And that is I will take his feet off and spray clear coat on them so he doesn't get a case of Cosmic Rust. And yeah like you said about how realistic he is and gun laws that shouldn't be a problem. I am a gun collector as well as a Transformer collector so I make sure to be well informed about laws regarding firearms. So getting him won't be a problem for me. I always try to keep up with laws anyway since I am a security officer and I went to the police academy back in 2005. Thanks everybody for responding to my post. :-D

I like the gold version myself but I can see where people wouldn't like the look of him gold instead of the silver he has always been. After seeing the gold version posted on Transformer Wikia it made me think if there was ever a James Bond & The Transformers comic they could have Auric Goldfinger being in it have him and Megatron be allies wanting to take over Earth and Megatron being the gold version and Goldfinger wielding him in Walther P38 mode.

I think it should instead go to the man with the golden gun.

Your right that would be even better.
