I'm making a stop motion and i want a G1 prime.
What's the best one?
Besides Masterpiece.
probably the G1/G2, also since i have G1 Magnus (incomplete, could any of you kindly point me to any place i could get the parts? thnx) it'd go good with it.

Thank you!

There is a large non-transforming one but that is pretty rare and japanese, there is also a rather nice overscale of the MP-10 and Mp-01 as well I guess.
also the hot toys one but that is crazy expensive.

If you want one that's a box truck, and aren't going to use the Masterpiece one, and you want something that actually transforms, there are extremely few options that are even sort of big. Outside of the actual G1 toy, the larger sized, G1 inspired, box truck alt mode Primes aren't so great.

Just use the G1 one.

Just how big do you need your Optimus Prime to be? Does he need the trailer? Without knowing more of your specifications, I'd actually recommend either the Age of Extinction Evolution 2-Pack version of the 2006 Voyager Classics Prime (an excellent representation of the G1 toy look) or the e-Hobby Transformers Cloud Prime (based more closely on the G1 cartoon color scheme).

The Combiner Wars Optimus isn't bad, it's reasonably big for flat front truck non-masterpiece Primes, and you might still run across it in stores. If you require a trailer, well, then your options are going to be really limited.

Obviously nothing will be as G1 like as the actual G1 toy, and it's been reissued and rereleased a bunch of times, so "Just use the G1 one" isn't bad advice. Only real thing is if the short smokestacks would bother you. They bother the crap out of me, but maybe you're different.

Probably not going to work for Stop motion, but it very likely is the biggest G1 Prime out there:

Isnt the answer just MP 01?

The masterpiece Optimi are the best most G1 transfomring toys, and MP 01 is the bigger of the two, so yeah it wins. Here it is, the biggest one below:

Oh besides Masterpiece, my bad. In that case I would say to get the optimus evolution 2 pack. It comes with the best homage to the robot mode and the best homage to the truck mode, albeit split between two toys:

If you don't care about transformation but yopu want the best G1 Optimus for stop motion, go the Revoltech route:

You know, for a stop motion video, I think the CW Voyager Optimus is the best thing to get. He scales well with other toys and has the G1 theme as well as the necessary articulation for a stop motion video (which the G1 doesnt have). And he is less expensive than the classics version. I am thinking not going the masterpiece route means there is a budget involved and thus Combiner Wars Optimus is the best option.

The way the hips are built with these hard ratchet may make a stop motion project a bit hard to do. Still, if OP can do a mod to change the ratchets into some other joints, that issue could be resolved.

Is it harder than G1, because that is the best other option suggested so far. The person is looking for a transforming prime and on a budget (and they already have the G1 figure).

I know that. If the guy can manage to find a Classic OP, any versions, it will still be way more posable and easier to deal with for a video project.

Also, Cybertron Leader Optimus Prime IS the biggest OP in a somewhat classic style that could make a great stop motion video. It's also very easy to find and a gunless version can be pretty cheap.
