Hello
My boyfriend is a fan of the transformers cartoon, i wanted to
surprise him by looking and buying him a
VINTAGE transformers toy, but i have no idea which one. He mentioned something about it being a
TRUCK?
i don't want to make it obvious by asking him so many questions about it so i figured i'd try to find out myself.
CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME AND TELL ME WHICH ONE HE MAY BE TALKING ABOUT?Thank you so much!

he probably means optimus prime. and by vintage you could get him either a generation 1 optimus prime figure off ebay for a ton of money, or spend 65 bucks on amazon for 20th anniversary optimus prime which I must reccomend because it is without a doubt the best transformers toy I've ever had.

Sounds like a G1 Optimus Prime. I recommend checking eBay. Good luck in your search!

Agreed.
The only other Truck I can think of is Ultra Magnus, but he's in the same league as Prime.
Did he tell you what color the truck is?

Yeah, this is probably what you want to do. If you look on ebay, type in "G1 Optimus Prime" or "Generation 1 Optimus Prime" in the search bar. It could cost you over $500.00 if it's still new in the box though. You can find an open one for $100.00-$200.00 though, probably. Just make sure he's 100% complete with trailer and all accessories...or just get the 20th anniversary one.

seriously I'd reccomend the 20th anniversary prime. It's bigger, got more features, and its just all around a better toy.

Or, if his birthday isn't for a good while, ye could wait till the Encore Prime comes out. It's a reissue of G1 Prime. Identical in everyway except it's alot cheaper. But I'm not sure when they come out.

The 20th Anniversary Prime would probably be the cheapest way to go. I just got one off eBay for $41.

He could also mean Motormaster. He was a G1 truck too.

He Might be thinking of Ultra Magnus way cooler than Prime.
But yeah its likely Prime. I found a couple of ebay auctions, one for a Re-issue MISB for 43 bucks
There was also another one that said it was AFA sealed, (not graded) and it was 70 some bucks.

If you go on ebay you will have to sell a limb off your body to afford a Gen1 optimus prime. I would get the 20th anniversary figure on amazon.com

Guys, don't recommend the 20th Anniversary Prime to her. I admit it's an awesome figure and I love it but someone who doesn't collect Transformers and hasn't owned one since their childhood isn't going to want something that big and complicated. I think he'd be really disappointed if he got 20th Anv. Prime, he would want the toy he has as a kid.
Why aren't you guys telling her to get the TRU reissue Optimus Prime for her BF? There's quite a few on eBay between $40-70.

She does say VINTAGE. And 20th Prime isn't exactly vintage, is it. The best affordable way to get one (if it is indeed Prime) is the TRU reissue, or like I said, the Encore reissue, if it doesn't need to be gotton a hold of quickly (ie the next few months).

Hold on a sec there.
If you really got lots of dough, a true G1 vintage Optimus Prime, or a reissue G1 Optimus Prime will do. But i think he'd be a bit disappointed when he got one. As a kid, G1 Prime was awesome and a dream. But in this modern times, the old Prime is simply too old and lacking in todays advancement in toy technology. (I don't recommend)
20th Anniversary is a cool alternative. But he is too big and heavy. Could create a real problem on where and how to display him. At 65 bucks, it doesn't come cheap either. But still a good alternative.
The most bang for the buck, i think, is Classics Voyager Optimus Prime, at $19.99. For a true transformers fan, you'd always dream that the toy you're holding has a better resemblance to the guy you see on tv/movie. Well, Classics series is exactly that. It brings back the nostalgia without the excess baggage of old school inferior toys. It's got the best proportions and design on both the robot mode and truck mode (according to many reviews, i agree). And it's pack with awesome articulation, which makes it a true action figure for its size. It's not too big or heavy. Very easy to display and play. He'd be proud to display it on his office desk, and tell everybody that his girlfriend gave that to him.
Check out all three options in the internet or shops. And take your pick.
Good luck

Trouble with that is, if he's looking for nostalga, Classics Prime may dissapoint him. I agree with you, it's superior in terms of everything you say, but it's an update of the figure. If I was after a vintage Prime to bring back happy childhood memories, and I hadn't touched a tf since then, I would probably be dissapointed with Classics Prime. It doesn't even have a trailer.
Ultimatley though Vintagetoyz, it is your call. Check out the different versions described and make a choice. And we are always here to offer help.
Here's links to the galleries of the three main Primes that have been mentioned:

Actually, i recommended Classics Voyager Prime, speaking out of my own experience.
I haven't touched or seen any Transformers toys for 20 years. When i came back to see it in the shops, i was really disappointed the old Japanese toys are this BAD.
I even had a reissue Soundwave rebadged as Classics in my hands, selling at a ridiculously bargain price at that moment. Seeing it up close, i eventually rejected it. No can do. G1 Vintage and reissues just simply won't live up to what i want.
Anyway, back to Prime.
A friend of mine has an MP Prime (20th Annive Japs equivalent) for some years. I saw it. Played with it. It was good. But somehow, nothing in me craved to have it.
When Classics Prime came out, there's a surge of want in me. I just got to have it. I bought it immediately. Been playing with it so often ever since.
I mean, I'd have him stand in a certain action pose, with gun in his hand. During a short break from work, instead of going for coffee, i'd imagine Prime doing something or rolling out, so I'd transform him into the truck and put it atop the pad of paper. After a few hours, or a few days, I'd change his pose again, kneeling down, as if hurt from an attack. It's just simply so much fun. My constant buddy on the office table.
I've transformed him for probably 30+ times by now. And i'm still enjoying it. Sometimes, i would point a flashlight behind his head, to glow up his eyes. Seems like the possibilities are endless.
I'd take pictures of him in all those different poses.
And he's amazingly durable. Still no loose joints.
From time to time, i'd check out 20th Anniv Prime on internet. There was once, it came down to $22.50 sale price (Walmart or Toys R Us). I still feel no urge to get him. I can't imagine what I'd do with a hulking heavy 20th Anniv Prime.

I'm not against anyone or any ideas here.
I just want to share this fun-filled experience i had, and still having.
It's like owning a detailed model-kit car, instead of the old matchbox. (of the same car model)
But of course, maybe i have a different attitude.

As a comparison, my friend kept his MP Prime (20th Annive Prime equivalent) in the box most of the time. Nowhere to pose it. Constantly in danger that someone at home might accidentally knock him over, and break him.
All these years, (at least 4 or 5), he opened it 3 times, as far as he can remember. And he had to put it carefully back into the box on the same day everytime. The longest hours the toy has been played was when I went to his house, played by me, no less.

My Classics Prime has been enjoying fresh air and bright flourescent lights everyday. And he gets good exercise too.

Well my 20th Prime has been holding the fort on a shelf since the day I got him, flanked by Tidal Wave and MP screamer. I still pick him up, pose him, transform him, etc. But that's just me. It just depends on what you want really. For poseability and value for money, I would say classics is the way to go. Prime looks G1 but he doesn't, if you know what I mean. But for the nostalga value, you may want G1. Yeah, he's a brick and can only pose by swinging his arms or bending at the knees, but it's G1 Prime. The original. With Die cast.
Classics or G1 is the way forward in this case, 20th is more like a collectors piece.
Please don't think I'm taking a dig at you Auto Bot, I don't own Classics Prime. As such, I can't comment on it properly, I was merely saying about the nostalga. But like you say
But of course, maybe i have a different attitude.
Different people want different things from their figures. Although the seekers look G1, but have all of the benefits so they are superior IMO.
