How does the reissue of Grapple compare to the original G1 release?

If you mean the Commemorative Series IV Re-Issue:

The launching gimmick in his arms was disabled. The original had it but it was really weakened for the U.S. release.

Paint differences include his eye color, silver paint in place of chrome and a tampographed Autobot symbol which is not present on the 1985 version.

I'm assuming the plastic quality would be a little better on the commemorative version.

Takara "Collector's Edition" re-issue: basically dead on to the original version.

Hasbro Commemorative Series: See Overcracker's post a couple up from this one, with one correction (or maybe clarification/better specifics on a detail): chrome is retained, except on the crane "hydraulics" and the hook itself - those are silver plastic rather than being chrome like on the vintage piece.

Thanks. Yes. Silver Plastic on the hook and crane piston. The Grill and fender, cuffs, and shoulder details are still chromed.

To 2nd that, most of the Hb re-issue had the chrome removed and in some projectiles..........lengthened.

Think I'm going to try and find a G1 in good shape. Thanks everyone for the responses.

I only own the Commemorative series version, and as a display piece, it's fine. He can't fire off his projectiles, but when he's sitting on a shelf, he doesn't need to. Also, if you're keeping him in robot mode, you never really see the hook or piston that lost their chrome, anyway.
