I have already written articles on the importance of discipline, occasional sacrifice and priorities in Transformers collecting on this blog, but I feel things have changed enough recently to warrant a second look at how I collect. Before it was a case of maybe choosing the toy lines and styles I liked, collecting those and cutting back on impulse or peripheral, tangential toy purchases. Now, it is becoming hard to even collect all the moulds – never mind repaints – of the same line. So, it’s time to focus.

While it was forced upon me initially, cutting out third party purchases has been like watching fog clear from a valley when the sun rises. I plan to continue to basically not buy the stuff except with rare exception for unique product that will truly never officially exist even once money is flowing in again shortly. Nothing against it and I really enjoy what I have, but just sitting on the sidelines with it and viewing it from afar has been a huge stress off me.

Another help was deciding at the start of the year to cut out a lot of the miscellaneous licensed products dumped out, such as Loyal Subjects figures. Again, they're neat to have, but outside of tracking down a Snarl I'm done with their stuff (among other things, that's just the easiest example as it relates to official product.)

I went through this not too long ago when I realized that I had too much stuff to display. When I started, I only wanted G1 characters from the US show. After the reevaluation I only wanted a Classics version of the G1 US show, MP's, and G1. My Animated and Movie stuff went away. Now that it's been that way for a while, I am much happier with my display. I don't miss displaying the other stuff. I still haven't tried to sell anything off, but I might.
