Rebuilding and expanding my Transformer Collection

Hey guys,

New to the forums :D

Like most people here growing up i was a massive Transformer fan. For a good chunk of my childhood the only toy i wanted and the only tow i got was Transformers. Over the years i collected quite a collection and it was my pride and joy. As i got older i naturally started to play with it less then one day my mum decided she didnt like the clutter of my old toys and took the entire collection down to the local swap meet/flea market and sold it for $20 which she proudly gave to me  Lets just say my mum and I didnt talk for a while.

Fast forward a couple years and i'm older, with more disposable income and a very understanding wife. I've since started to collect G1 Transformers again. Till now i've kept myself busy with masterpiece and i'm up to date with that but it looks like a significant amount of Transformers arnt going to get the remake treatment.

Currently i'm looking at the below and would like some advice... (bear in mind i'm a little OCD and would like them all in package and the packages to be the same)

Dinobots and Insecticons - These ones are okay because i can get the G1 reissue easily enough

Combiners including Aerialbots, Protectobots, Technobots, Constructicons, Stunticons, Combaticons, Predacons - I've found most of the autobot as G1 reissues but it looks like the combat icons and predacons only come in the Takara box... is this correct? I'd prefer them all to be in english boxes if possible.
- Also love the predaking combine, anyone know a nice high detail version of it?

Trypticon, Scorponok, Fotress Maximus, Metroplex - Ive found Trypticon, Fotress Maximus and Metroplex but haven't seen a scorponok version out there, anyone got any leads?

Lastly Omega Supreme... But i'm not sure if their is a proper G1 reissue version out there.

Thanks in advance guys

Firstly - Welcome to the boards. :)

Secondly - there was a reissue Omega Supreme (link). You might have trouble tracking one down now, though.

As for reissues - The Dinobots and several of the combiners were never reissued.

TFWIKI has a good list of what has, hasn't been reissued.

Encore (Most recent for Takara)
Hasbro Platinum Edition (ongoing, but not all toys are reissues. Check the list)
Hasbro Commemorative Series (Pretty old now)
Takaras Transformers: Collection
E-Hobby Collections Edition (warning - very high price tag!)

HighEndTFs has a very useful (but not exhaustive) guide to spotting counterfeit\KO Transformers. Its also useful so you're aware of what you can get hold of if you want it.

I hope all this helps :)

:edited to fix a link:

I can help! Yay!

Just going in order of what you mentioned here:
  • Dinobots: No official reissues. No one is really sure why. Amelie linked you to Highend TFs already, and I second that as a resource to use when scoping anything that looks too nice for its price on ebay and such.
  • Insecticons: Platinum Edition reissues came out not long ago. Good price on them at TF Source right now.
  • Aerialbots, Protectobots, Technobots, Stunticons: Also no official reissues, also lots of knock-offs. Thankfully they aren't super expensive to acquire, though Computron can get up there if complete and in good shape.
  • Constructicons: Takara reissued these in the Encore line in two flavors. First, a reissue faithful to the old toys, Encore #20. Then there's the "Anime Color" version, Encore 20A, with some colors more faithful to the cartoon and a new headsculpt for the combined Devastator. Quality of the set is said to be quite lacking, but at least you don't have to worry about Hook being broken.
  • Combaticons: Also a Takara-only reissue in the Encore line as Encore #16. Got really expensive after selling out. Personally, I'd just track down a vintage one instead.
  • Predacons: Multiple reissues have occurred. If you're looking for a Hasbro reissue, then look no further than Platinum Predaking. Takara released the same set in different packaging a few years earlier. If you'd rather have one that has the yellow of the vintage toys rather than the gold of this release, then Takara's 2004 reissue will have to suffice. The Hasbro one does include a new sword for the combiner (which is from a Transformers Prime toy, just recolored to match Predaking, but still new for that set), so that's a plus!
  • Scorponok: I skipped the ones you'd found. For Scorponok, there is no official reissue. Vintage is the only option at the moment. I think it got knocked off at some point recently but I'm not sure.
  • Omega Supreme: Again, Takara's Encore line had it. There's also a neat alternate colored version that's blue and white, and meant to be one of the generic Guardian Robots from the original cartoon.

Oh wow, guys thanks so much for the heads up guys!

I didnt even realise 90% of what I was looking at were knock offs! Seriously had about $1500 of orders sitting in my eBay cart ready to hit the purchase button... PHEW!

Little bit sucky that so many of them haven't been reissued :-( gonna make this so much harder to put back together. Now i'm a little bit bummed

Man the hunt continues!
