Technically (because they hadn't yet merged), that would have been MP-02 Ultra Magnus who was released in Australia in Takara packaging (with stickers added for recommended ages) through Target stores.

This guy has really intrigued me but to link it to the Inferno, it should be interesting if the die cast item theme continues.

"Megatron Gold Ver. (12/2014)
ID number: MP-05G
Accessories: Fusion cannon, energon mace, energy dagger, laser pistol, Kremzeek figure, Reflector figure
A gold-chrome redeco of the original MP-5 mold, Megatron Gold Version is a Hasbro Asia release under the TakaraTomy label (making it the first TakaraTomy Masterpiece to not be released, thus far, in Japan). It comes with all the same accessories as the original release as well as a new, non-transforming Reflector in camera mode."

The wiki should be corrected then since he wasn't a Hasbro Asia release, nut a Transformers Asia release instead, as we previously established.

And yeah, this makes him more of a special edition and not part of a larger line, which if what Transformers Asia would usualy do. Up until now, of course, where they are becoming in charge of the MP like in Asia.

But MP-2 did come out in Japan. Twice, even, as he was reissued in 2008.

Convoluted but i follow.
Thanks for the clarity.
The sub sub designations are getting more interesting and intricate as time goes on.

Another interesting angle on releases.
Especially with more of this becoming prevalent, maybe the inclusion of the die cast figs are to make it stand out from the sea of HAsTakTomy releases in various forms, origins and waves.

I'm really excited for this figure. It and Grapple look to do the Ironhide thing, where when you're done with the transformation, you marvel at where the figure came from. In the case of Inferno and Grapple it's where the ladder/hook goes.

Looks like another good addition to the Masterpiece line. I wonder when we will get more of the first season Autobots like Jazz, Hound, & Sunstreaker?

There are options Foss these out there.

Options are out there, yeah, but many want official. Official tends to do it better, and cheaper, than 3rd party.

Not anymore. Prices have leveled out pretty even, and quality is better in many cases.

Official is just a word that has lost its meaning. Don't let it keep you away from amazing transformer figures.

I appreciate wanting "Official" heck I rely on it that is how I often get 3rd party toys - after the official ones come out the previous 3rd party ones tend to fall off a cliff in terms of pricing.

I expect Maketoys version of Hound will similarly suffer next.

Unless I'm mistaken - and I suspect I am - Isn't the reason most of the currently undone Season 1 bots are undone is because they can't get the licensing for their vehicles yet?
Then again, that doesn't explain Sunstreaker who's vehicle mode is supposed to be the exact same as Sideswipe's.

I was always a little shocked they never made a Sunstreaker. Especially after Wheeljack came out, as Takara, with very little adjustment could probally have made a nice Sunstreaker retool.

Granted, the fan base would have had issues with that, and rightly so, but that has never stopped them before.

I don't think a Wheeljack to Sunstreaker retool would have worked out too well. Maybe for Generations - and, heck, they done that in Combiner Wars - but Masterpiece is supposed to represent the cartoon models to the letter, and Wheeljack and Sunstreaker just look too distinct for that imo.

Plus a new Sunstreaker mold would open up a ton of diaclone repaint possibilities. Which, truth be told, is kind of what I'm starting to get into Masterpiece before. Because I'm a freakin' weirdo.

For some of us official is all that matters. Maybe it's lost meaning to those of you that don't mind owning knockoffs and bootlegs, but to the rest of us it's everything. I'll always support the companies that actually own the licenses over the ones that have stolen the likenesses.

And I don't know what you mean by the quality being "better in many cases", I've yet to see a single knockoff that I thought was superior to a Hasbro Masterpiece. Don't bother listing any to try to prove me wrong, I've seen them all, my opinion stands.

They're talking about third parties rather than knockoffs.

Third party figures are a kind of knockoffs. They just knockoff visual IP designs rather than physical ones, regardless of how many artistic liberties and/or adjustments they may or may not make to said visual IP designs.

As far as I knew the definition of a knockoff - at least in the context of Transformers - was to try and replicate an already-existing toy. Third Parties stand distinct from that in that they are completely original toys, just based on existing designs (unless it's something like that fansproject glacialord thing)
