To me, CW Leader Megatron is one of the nicest Transformers ever made and the clear best Megatron. I actually have Classics Megatron as my worst. It doesn't do him justice in either mode.

Truthfully, for such a major character the G1 (and G1 inspired) releases of Megatron have been weak more often than not.

Here's a dark horse - Reverse Convoy. Who is familiar with that one?

I can see it's a repaint/remold of Hero G1 Megatron, but who is he and where does he come from?

It's Megatron possessing the body of a guy called Reverse Convoy from Robot Masters. Y'know, that one thing in 2004 where they crossed over like every continuity and didn't give a heck?
The great thing about the remolding on this toy is that the actual head was remolded to be Optimus Primeish... but that Megatron head you see there? It's connected by a swivel to the back of his retooled shoulder cannon.

Here ya go. Robot Masters was actually a cool line and has some awesome G1 and Beast Wars inspired figs. It was Japanese exclusive so a lot of people don't know about it.

There is an official CGI video clip for him. Should be able to find on the internet. Maybe a Robotmaster brand. Very funny video.

The idea of a toy having an Optimus head and a Megatron head was just amazing to me. Best gimmick ever, the back story didn't even matter.

Haha, I se what you did there. Indeed you could get a Megatron with an ptimus head and vice versa.

And since I am here, I was curious of something. Generations Leader Megatron was announced before I got into the comics but I remember people saying he would be great for a lost light shelf, or great as an IDW Megs ect.

Well I was reading the latest issue of IDW's MTMTE and ... IDW Megs doesnt look like Gen Megs at all. Its a different head, cannon, body, legs, abdomin, back, shoulders everything. The only reference I can see is that you can give him an autobot symbol but aside from that (and maybe his crotch), he's as IDW looking as the G1 toy is. The upcoming voyager doesnt seem much more IDW either and thats too bad since I really like hat IDW look. He looks so broad yet lean and mean and imposing too.

TR Megatron looks like he'll work for me as IDW Megsy because of that broad and lean look... not that I have many other options. But yeah, I totally get what you mean. It's a shame we aren't getting an IDW-accurate one.
Though I'm willing to make compromises, hence why TR Chromedome and Generations Whirl are fine for my display. [She says 'display', sighing deeply as an empty feeling fills her heart - Kurona has just looked to her Lost Light 'shelf' to see but only a Combiner Wars First Aid and a yet-to-be-upgraded Generations Nightbeat.]

I like the leader Megs and yes he isn't really IDW, which is a shame. But the TR one does look a little more like him, with the head design at least. He looks closer to what IDW Megs looks like, and you can take the fusion cannon off so it's more accurate. But IDW Megatron is a great looking character and deserves a good toy showing it, like a lot of the cast.

And don't worry Kurona: The display shall grow!

Oh, it will. I've got Universe Cyclonus arriving in the mail next week; then in a month I'm buying his Maketoys Upgrade (+ the Tailgate), the Walgreens Brainstorm and the Beezleboss Nightbeat upgrade (+ the bonus briefcase). It'll be so nice.

I was playing around with Leader Megatron and another thing I realized I didnt like was how he could not even do a relaxed pose. This is what i mean when I say that he has limited articulation. I am sure he has a standard amount of articulation points but the way the figure is done there is a limitation as to what poses can be done. And the standard relaxed pose is not possible. For instance , lets just look at the Seibertron galleries for a random toy, CW Silverbolt. His initial robot mode image is this:

Image
Transformers Generations Combiner Wars Silverbolt Gallery

Standard pose for standing, nothing special. Just casualy standing there.

Here is Megatron's standard standing pose:

Image
Transformers Generations Combiner Wars Megatron Gallery

He can't pull the relaxed pose and can only be stiff. Sure, you can pose him from this, but it ends up being a wider stance than just a casual one. So instead of getting a pose like the one on the left, you are stuck with the one on the right.

TBH I've found that bending a notch on his elbows a little helps with a more relaxed/natural pose. Just the legs need to be rotated a bit at the hips so his feet face out a little more too to the sides. I also realize that it might be more in character for Megatron to be on edge in some ways too and not exactly be relaxed. I mean he is the "evil" leader of a very powerful fighting force in a lot of fiction. It's not exactly a "chillax" kind of atmosphere for him to do that with. I do agree though he can be a bit too rigid even in neutral poses. I'm sorry, I still love the figure immensely. :P

I still really like the figure too. I actually have him with the shoulders one click out and the elbows rotated in so he looks like this with just a bit more outward sitting:

Sorry, I love that show, and it was the pose that instantly comes to mind when thinking of Megatron's posing

I can tell you still like him, especially with finding reasons he wold be rigid :-P

But all joking aside, a neutral pose can convey as much if not more menace:

I really wish he could pull off a simple pose like those.

Well I do have an obsession with Megatron and subsequently that particular figure because I had a lot of hype for it when it was coming and I felt it came in on it. I wouldn't consider it unhealthy though...well maybe just a bit. :-D

I do agree with your point there, those shots are quite impressive with their neutral poses. They are leagues ahead of the CW leader version. They also have a higher price point and produced 3rd party too. Not a guarantee for higher quality though. MP-05 has numerous issues from rust to plastic clips breaking off and the transformation process is more torturous than RotF Leader Optimus Prime, but it does look good and that's probably only one of the few pluses to it.

I'm actually really not a fan of how MP Megatron looks. Those legs are way too skinny, his waist is bizarre and in general his proportions are just really off. It looks absolutely dreadful to me.

Yeah, I've thought about those issues too and agree. Aesthetically it is pleasing to me though, but CW Leader G1 Megs is more in my case than MP-05. We all have different tastes though, "diversity" or some such. :P
