What version of Soundwave would you recommend?

Hey, guys.

I'm trying to get a Soundwave that can be compatible with the Classics figures. I can't decide on which would fit in. What would you recommend? I need a Soundave that's officially released by HasTak (no 3rd Party offerings) and something that is at up to $80. Thanks! :CON: ;)^

Likely the best one to go for would be the Fall of Cybertron Voyager class Soundwave, it scales well enough for most people. It even has (I believe) a semi-official boombox mode ;)^

I've agonized over this subject for a while.

I wouldn't say ML Soundwave is too short, but he does severely lack details. However Reprolabels does some amazing work though, which I think makes him a great candidate for any C/G display.

Another option is Cybertron/Galaxy Force Soundwave. An amazing figure, but too tall and doesn't quite fit the aesthetic.

FOC Soundwave's, particularly the Takara Deluxe, are outstanding. But the Cybertronian alt mode, again, doesn't fit my aesthetic desires.

Upcoming TR Soundwave, too big. And the bulk of the mold works for Blaster in my opinion, but not Soundwave.

What my plan is, is KFC Mugan Vox.

He'll be his own mold (on my display anyways), he's the right size, and he conveniently solves another problem wonderfully: Ratbat. My cassette minions won't be represented by MP's (like many have done) and KFC's Ratbat (Badbat) looks awesome. I've thought about it for a loooooong time, and now I think is the right time to pounce. An official Soundwave was just released so it'll probably be a while before they release another one. Which actually, this thread just made me realize. ;)

MP Soundwave is best but will be over your $80 limit.

FOC and WFC Soundwave are great, but are in Cybertronian form, might not fit with normal chugs. WFC Soundwave is compatible with the disc/puck guys, which is neat, but if you aren't set on that gimmick, FOC is a perfectly cromulant choice.

TR Soundwave is big, yeah, but has the benefit of being a current toy, shouldn't have any markup in price or have to get it loose. He's compatible with the current Rumble, Laserbeak, etc. figures as well.

Honestly? Go for the original G1 figure. You can easily find a reissue for under $80 in extremly good, if not brand new condition.

Its a great figure, and really passes the test of time well. Hell, it might be the G1 figure that can mix with the figures of today best of all.

I think the original spirit of this thread is to find a Soundwave for a C/G display. G1 (while one of the greatest TF's ever) isn't posable and is too tall. And MP, waaaaayyyy too tall.

For such a main character like Soundwave, you would think there would be a ton of good viable options. Sadly, its quite the opposite as I can only say that 1 official toy fits in a classic collection at the correct scale, and sadly it only works well in robot mode. It's Generations FOC Soundwave. He is the right scale, looks good, is an official release, has the chest projectile gimmick and costs less than 80$

Or you can go for a different Classics scale, but sadly, there are less than 10 figures in that collection.

I guess it all depends on what you think the "correct" scale is. For me, everything has to conform to my United (Classics) Megatron. He's a Voyager, and I wouldn't mind his minions being the same height, but preferably slightly shorter. So for me, the Voyager FOC Soundy is out.

Then you could get the deluxe version ;)

Cybertronian alt mode. Out.

Which is a shame. It's a great mold, and the Takara United SW has some of the most stunning paint apps I've seen to date

Don't do it. The mold is a piece of junk. It LOOKS good but the QC is an oilhound's breakfast.

I personally feel FoC Voyager Soundwave is probably one of the better choices out there for looking for a figure in scale with your other classics. It works for me. I am though wanting to get TR Leader Soundwave to see if it would change my opinion though.

I also use the FOC Voyager mold. He looks the part in bot mode, he has an unofficial boom box mode, and the chest deploying gimmick is in place. All of the main big-name minions are available and they fit into the CHUG display perfectly. All around win!

He's been out a while and I watched reviews back then. I know it's KFC but I don't recall seeing anything jarring. I was planning to reinvestigate anyways though...

Honestly, I really wish we had gotten a Soundwave out of the CW OP mold like IDW teased us with. He'd have scaled perfectly.

Not that I want to encourage even more repaints from the CW line, but I was really shocked that one didn't come about as well.

Instead we got another Optimus repaint. You'd think if Trailbreaker is apparently a big enough name to get 2 toys a little over a year apart Soundwave would be well over that bar but apparently not.

Someone stated that the G1 Soundwave can be modded to give it proper knees. Has anyone done that yet?

And looking on the gallery, the G1 figure is in decent scale with Classics Megatron. Not perfect, but still serviceable.

Funny how this should come up this weekend. Have a look:

I went for it and ordered a Vox/Badbat. It'll be a couple weeks before it arrives, but I'll let you all know my thoughts. ;)^
