They look different to me. It means Takara didnt copy anything. And it makessense taht they are similar since both the KO and Takara are pooling from the same source, being the G1 toy.
I'm actually willing to bet that the KO toy face is the same and the 36+. It and the new chest are freakishly similar. These new pics are higher res and such, but are still too small to make out the finer details. On the 36+ face, there's a lot more black added which makes it difficult to confirm. Here's a better pics of the KO though.

And all the face/chest pics of 36+

The more I look at it, the more convinced I get they're the same. The placement of the curles on the chest are identical.

I could imagine someone from the KO company getting their hands on (leaked/stolen) preliminary design work for MP-36+ and getting them released in KO form ahead of the official Takara version.

My thoughts as well. Highly unlikely that TT is thieving KO pieces.

Confirmation of Included Accessories in Latest Images for Takara MP-36 + Megatron

There was a lot of talk over what would be included in Takara's release of the toy accurate Deco for Masterpiece Megatron, numbered MP-36 +. After all, one of the mostimportant aspects of this release is an accessory, a toy accurate face, so we wondered if he would come with his other faces from the original release. Well, we finally have confirmation that he does. He comes with all the gun accessories, 3 shinier versions of the faces that came with MP 36, and a shinnier version fo the breastplate that came with MP 36. No extra weapons are included. All the images come from Dengeki Hobby.

kyano13neo shared an image from the toy show, on Twitter, where we see him next to the G1 toy counterpart which is not as shiny since this MP 36 + is based on the Hasbro G1 toy (and thus, the Takara 16-S release of G1 Megatron).

Awww, I really was hoping for at least the sword from the Japanese G1 toy... Oh well, it's accurate to the American release of the toy. It still looks great in my opinion, but for me, I'd buy this mainly for the superior gun mode compared to MP-36's dull grey gun ;)^

Alternatively you could also say it's the Microman version which also had the chrome. The one in the photo is the Chronicles figure from Dark of the Moon with selective sticker application (including the chest sticker over the tampograph). The original G1 Japanese release was based on a Microman variant that replaced the red plastic with blue while 16-S was chromed like Hasbro's.

Looks great actually! But for me nothing beats the cartoon look. It's nice that the people who buy this edition will be able to enjoy the cartoon inspired sculpt, too. The swappable pieces are a good gimmick.

Any word if they've "tweaked" the joints and connections so transformation is a bit more manageable?

Interesting how that Japanese description for Rodimus Unicronus makes no mention of how his deco is inspired by SG Rodimus (despite SG supposedly being popular in Japan), but does for some reason mention the G1 episode where Rodimus Prime lost the Matrix to Scourge.

Also interesting that for Bomb-Burst, they mention his Masterforce counterpart Blood by name.

But this is the Masterpiece G1 Megatron thread, so I'll stop right there.

Suggestions for a flying stand in gun form? (with all its attachments.)

Not a specific suggestion, but two clear figure stands that have grasping mounts should do the trick. Alternatively you could maybe make something out of generic clear LEGOs (I've seen them sold in bulk).

Taking a quick look, this seems like it might work. Not sure how big they are, but this set seems like it would be able to support the stock and barrel at a good height. And it's cheap (but on back order).

Thanks Emerje!

My impression of the generic flying bases with the claw arm is that they are typically too weak for something as heavy as MP-36.

Will keep watch for the AmiAmi set, it seems like it would work if the scale is right.

This is what I found. I snapped off one arm trying to hold up Swoop... #-o

Some of them seem best for balancing figures more than supporting weight...

I have no idea what I just watched, but 36+ looks fantastic, shame I had to cancel my order (might get it in January since Beast Megs was pushed back).
