Looking at Masterpiece from another angle

I just had a passing thought we got Masterpiece Road Rage and Exhaust and Tigertrack non of whom existed 30 years ago. as well as Green Starscream I suppose & the Movie masterpiece toys.

so I got to wondering why does Masterpiece have to replicate an original toy - the 3rd parties have no problem making toys of characters who never had a toy in the 1st place in that style so why not Takara.

Why not make a Masterpiece Drift, Jhiaxus or Straxus for example ?
Heck why not Death Cobra or Super Megatron ?

Personally though I think we could do with some more Minibots.

Some are most likely risk design choices while most are "sure fire hit with the consumer" designs that don't cost too much with licensing issues.

A MP Jhiaxus would be a must-have for me, as well as a MP Overlord.

All of these (Starscream being an exception) are remolds/redecos of figures that already exist. They were created as a way to get a little extra out of a mold, not out of demand for the characters. Also those first three did exist 30 years ago, just not as Transformers.

If they could make reasonable figures of the characters you listed out of more popular G1 cartoon characters then they probably would, but I doubt they'd get their own unique mold. That's just not a gamble this line takes.

Mix up some molds for reuse and make Spike as Autobot-X, lol.
