By means of the Snakas blog, and Transformers Never Die (TFND.net), we have the latest in the Transformers Platinum edition series of the Chinese Zodiac adapted repaints of previously released toys. This time round - you'll never guess - it's another Optimus Prime! We head all the way back to 2006, as Hybrid Style Convoy THS-02 comes out of the dust into the Platinum line, complete with changeable hands, weapons, trailer and Roller - plus poseable stand and die cast parts, but no visible Rooster symbol that we can tell. Check out the images below!

This is absolutely bizarre... but since it doesn't have a naff colour scheme and goes for straight-up Optimus, might be worth getting.

Anyone know what size & price?

Hybrid style prime is a highly-articulated, and detailed, and transformable prime that is smaller than a deluxe, but larger than the next size down, if not about equal to that size.

It was an experimental style and size limited to Takara that had releases of G1 Prime, Galaxy Force Prime, and a G2 black version of the g1 prime with a couple of new accessories.

Fun stuff. Probably like most platinum releases, it will be more expensive than the actual release is/was worth. I still have the G2 black one up on display.

So long as they don't price this thing like recent Plat/YOTx releases I'm in.

For those unfamiliar with the mold I'd recommend checking out this toys terrible vehicle mode before committing to a purchase.

The Mold is very very small. Smaller than G1 Prime. He is highly articulated though and has a lot of die-cast.

The Truck mode is not horrible, and but is not the best. Still better than Classics Deluxe Optimus Prime's truck mode though.

Anything over 100 bucks is not worth it IMHO.

Size comparison here, third from the left:

Wow...a 'Year of the X' Prime, in a mold I've wanted, without a dumb color scheme (seriously, I have no idea how those sell). I might actually have to get this.

It's pretty much the size of a Cyberverse Commander.

I was thinking more the size of a Scout class, circa the TF: Cybertron line.

I concur, I have the black version and by current standard, he's about 1/3 the size of a RiD Warrior Class figure. Make no mistake, he's tiny. His transformation is similar to the Classics Deluxe, with a few extra minor steps.

Wow. I don't remember this toy, but Scout/Commander size has my attention.

But what really got my attention is the awesome roosterbot logo. None of the others have been that cool.

And this may just be me, but them using the Hybrid Style mold seems a bit... I don't know, forced? Like how Hasbro had to use Titanium Rodimus Prime due to lack of an alternative? Just how many suitable G1 Optimus Prime/Convoy molds do we have left for the next 6 years?

So far they've used:

- DotM Ultimate (Dragon)
- Energon (Snake)
- MP-10 (Horse)
- G2 Laser (Goat)
- Air Attack (Monkey)
- Hybrid Style G1 (Rooster)

Cybertron Optimus Prime is a possibility for reuse, so is the TR Powermaster or even better, the Ginrai retool, Optimal Optimus maybe, or even the Binaltech/Alternator if they're really desperate

Up until now, the theme of which Optimuses they use for these CNY releases seemed, to me, to be "big Optimus toys". But now, they've gone and used a tiny Optimus toy, whose packaging is only so big because of all the accessories it comes with. So maybe what determines which Optimus they use is the amount of an Optimus toy's included mass that can accomodate for a large-sized box.

The Cybertron, TR Powermaster, and Optimal Optimuses could work for this idea, as well as the RiD 2001 and Armada Super Base Optimuses. For anything smaller, we might have to look for something that has a bunch of additional accessories, or at least one big accessory (i.e. - a trailer), included with it.

I would adore a re-issue of Cybertron Optimus. I always wanted it so bad as a kid.

Man, I was really hoping it was another MP-10 reissue. Pretty disappointed with the figure choice; sure, the small scale could be appealing, but the functionality isn't quite there for me.

Animated Winglblade Optimus Prime would be nice since the original Hasbro release was canceled.

It's still pretty easy to get an MP-10 at this point from several online retailers, there's also the upcoming shattered glass version, and there's a third production run in original colors scheduled for April of next year, so we don't really need yet another MP-10 release.

Besides the Year of the X releases have already used the MP-10 mold. I don't see them double dipping so soon.

If you want an MP-10 there's plenty of ways outside Year of the X releases to get one.

Come to think of it MP-10 is starting to rival Classics Prime in amount of releases its seen.

Looking at the pic of the back of the box, you can just make out it says "Made in China"
