Hi guys soo i've been wanting to get this mold for a long time
i would like to know if The Car robots gigatron can turn into 10 modes just like devil gigatron but the difference is devil gigatron has two pegs which allows another 4 official modes i would like to know if gigatron can turn into 10 modes too but is just not stable :KREMZEEK:

According to TFwiki, Car Robots Gigatron can assume all 10 modes, with the only issue being the lack of tabs for the elephant mode's trunk to secure in that mode.

http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Megatron_(RID)

Otherwise, it can like all the other uses of the mold turn into 10 different things though only 6 are official for him.

Some modes are more successful than others however.

I concur, 3 of the 4 added modes don't require any extra molding, nor do they have any uniquely dedicated parts. It's the Devil Elephant or Iron Mammoth that the retooling is for, to connect the tail and wing pieces securely.
btw the Wiki may be wrong on the retooling itself, as the tail piece needs those tabs to secure it for Dragon, Car, and Jet modes. It's the slots in the wing piece that are new.

btw I adore the Devilsaurer/"Iron Mammoth"/Gryphon mode. :x

And I believe you are 100% correct in that assessment.

I pulled down my R.I.D Galvatron to compare, with the Gigatron gallery here, and yes, the tooling is in fact the slots in the wing piece to secure the elephant trunk / nosecone / dragon tail in place for elefant mode.

The hand mode shows this best in the galleries:

Notice the complete circular sculpting on each side of the peg hole in the middle of Gigatron's wing section:

And in Devil Gigatron / R.I.D Galvatron, the circular portions are cut in half, and slots are now visible there.

Without those slots it relies solely on the friction of the tail joint to keep it in place. Which on mine is pretty tight, but still the tabbing in still helps.

One more reason I love Ryan's galleries and that make the galleries and invaluable resource IMHO. There's always an angle that will let you see that obscure section of a toy you need to see. :APPLAUSE:

10-15+ years ago I downloaded an RID Galvatron instruction sheet and had no problem forming any of the extra modes with RID Megatron. Apparently Hasbro used the same updated mold for Megatron, just didn't put the extra modes in the instructions.

Yes. Hasbro used the retooled Devil Gigatron mold for their R.I.D Megatron figure instead of the original one.

and as said, the Gigatron mold can still be put into all the modes, its just the elephant mode that cannot secure the trunk in place on the wing piece.

Exactly :)

btw Looking at the toy images of Gigatron and Galvatron, it confirms a suspicion I had: the sliding piece with the ball joint the tail is on is reversed on Galvatron, and possibly other iterations of the mold. The wide side has to be on the peg side of the back, so it's completely centered when slid all the way back. This has the added advantage of moving the "thumb" of the hand mode more to the edge, making it look more like a right hand.

Another rare instance where the Hb version trumps the Jp version.

The added bonus is that Takara's Gigatron and Devil gigatron retain the original, pointy missiles. Hasbro versions have them rounded off, so no pokey pokey for the kids.

It's funny this thread came about!

I'm actually looking to pick either Megatron or Galvatron up to stand against BW Optimal Optimus. I mean, I'd like BWTM2 Megatron, but finding a complete one seems to be a pain (I'd like the instructions and card included in that completeness).

Woulda been nice to get Transmetal 3 Botcon Megatron based off of this mold, but that didn't happen.

Anyone got comparison shots?!

Oh I know. All the pretty. There's no way I'm paying what asking price is for him currently though

Anyway, the mold is awesome all in all, but a new head and a great color scheme are not worth $300+ bucks asking price on ebay I don't think.

Not even for Deathzaurus.

Something I doubt is brought up often(but is mentioned on the tfwiki, where I learned of it and the pic is taken from) is the mold's "Ostrich Mode":

Image

And it brought up a bit of inspiration. Anyone remember the classic video game Joust!?

That is true. However the Hasbro version of the two are better than their Japanese counterparts for having chrome that doesn't peel off easily.

I own the Japanese versions of the two figures as I bought them ebay and Japantown in San Francisco, though I might have an American Gigatron (Magatron) as well; I recall first hand seeing the non-pointy weapons.

Yes. There is one peg on the side of the bar the Nosecone / griffin head neg are attached to. The wings peg onto that one peg, on that side only. There is no peg on the other side of the bar.
