Too many repaints

I wish Hasbro would quit putting out so many repaints because I'll only get the first one and not bother with any of the others. With the exception of the Super Gobots, they never did repaints with the standard size Gobots.

Repaints have been around since the first year of Transformers. So after 30+ years, you might wanna let go of it.

I know they have and never particularly liked it. G1 examples were Bumblebee and Cliffjumper and the Decepticon jets, Soundwave's cassette buddies, the two Autobot vans, and Topspin and Twin Twist.

Another example I didn't mention was that Ultra Magnus was a repaint of Optimus Prime.

Just so you know, Topspin and Twintwist werent repaints.

And just so you know, hasbro has reversed their techniques now. Instead of having the repaints come out after, they release them before. Like Titans Return Astrotrain, Blitzwing and Octane. Those guys are coming out (or came out) after their repaint. So just buying the first one doesnt mean you'd be getting the best version.

Also, you would be surprised, but Quake and Krok are very good figures even if they are just repaints.

And yes, Hasbro has been doing repaints since the begining and never stopped. I dont think they are bad or ruin things since Hasbro still gives us the same amount of new molds, the repaints just add to the amount of toys they are releasing. And it lets me choose which deco I like better on a mold if I only want to own one.

I'm surprised you let this one go, Burn. G1 Bumblebee and Cliffjumper are not repaints of one another. They are distinct molds. Although both are superdeformed penny racer styled cars, Bumblebee is a Volkswagen Beetle, Cliffjumper is a Porsche 924 Turbo. In the first year of release, both Bumblebee and Cliffjumper came in red and yellow versions to pad out the line, but regardless of color, each was still named either Bumblebee or Cliffjumper based on the actual car model represented.

We would call them shared engineering today  You know what I find funny? These are amazing examples of what is going on in Combiner Wars/Titans Return where you have molds that share little to no pieces with oneanother but that have major similarities like Scourge/HighBrow. we keep looking for what to call them as if its a new technique but Takara's been doing stuff like that since day one.

Also, let's not forget that the things people hate (repaints, retools, Bayformers) are what keep the line going; funding-wise. Get rid of them, and we'd get nothing. Now THAT would be something to complain about.

I let that one slide because if people aren't well versed, they COULD easily be confused.

Plus there is that red Bumblebee out there. :-P

Nothing is close to what we get anyway, with Hasbro's distribution sucking the way it does.

I did mention both Red Bumblebee and Yellow Cliffjumper in my initial reply, you know. Just sayin'. ;)

The examples of repaints I listed were strictly G1 repaints because I lost track of all the Transformer lines a long time ago. I bought a Decepticon Rumble, and whether the Autobot repaint is considered better by someone is their opinion because I'm not getting the repaint.

Well if you've bought one Transformer that has repaints or different mold that do the same, you've bought all the repaints or slightly different ones like Cliffjumper.

I seem to have a Gobot Seaplane in white and another in bronze/brown.

-----

Some repaints are "acceptable" if they meet the criteria of the source material.

So for example Blackout in Transformers 2007
& Grindor in Transformers Revenge of The Fallen

Just randomly slapping bonkers colour schemes on a Bumblebee does get a little tedious though.

But again it makes sense with the Legion Class Prime Bumblebee's one represents the earlier Yellow colours for bee and the other for the Beast Hunters Bee (as he is on the show) [Same with Smokescreen]

-----

I think people appreciate the sets of characters who share moulds when it meets the source material be that "Seeker trios" or 'Twins'
- but it's also interesting when there are similar but different ways of associating a couple of characters like with Sunstreaker and Sideswipe or Twin Twist & Topspin.

In those instances them being similar or even repaints is sort of the point - just as it is that the Power Rangers look similar in most versions bar some minor details.

-----

Not to mention sometimes a repaint has engineering improvements or more accurate colours.

Also some people like to have more than one version of a mould - it allows for the toys to be displayed in both modes - or can save the bother of Transforming something like ROTF Optimus toys.

I only got the Brown one in a bundle of toys at a Carboot sale a couple of weeks ago It looks like the Brown one is the Gobot http://www.tfu.info/Gobots/Renegades/Waterwalk/waterwalk.htm and the white one is This one which is a Robo Machine. (so English not America - so it looks like the UK got both colours of Seaplane both Japanese Bandia kinda and American Tonka kind) :

Oh and I really like Cykill's Black & green repaint.

Exactly.

I cancelled my preorder of TR Sixshot when I saw the Chaos on Velocitron boxset, with the Quickswitch redeco.

And I admit I'm refraining to get a SkyShadow now, wondering if there wouldn't be another redeco/retool before the end of the line (besides Overlord).
