I seem to have a Gobot Seaplane in white and another in bronze/brown.

Some repaints are "acceptable" if they meet the criteria of the source material.
So for example Blackout in Transformers 2007
& Grindor in Transformers Revenge of The Fallen
Just randomly slapping bonkers colour schemes on a Bumblebee does get a little tedious though.
But again it makes sense with the Legion Class Prime Bumblebee's one represents the earlier Yellow colours for bee and the other for the Beast Hunters Bee (as he is on the show) [Same with Smokescreen]

I think people appreciate the sets of characters who share moulds when it meets the source material be that "Seeker trios" or 'Twins'
- but it's also interesting when there are similar but different ways of associating a couple of characters like with Sunstreaker and Sideswipe or Twin Twist & Topspin.
In those instances them being similar or even repaints is sort of the point - just as it is that the Power Rangers look similar in most versions bar some minor details.

Not to mention sometimes a repaint has engineering improvements or more accurate colours.
Also some people like to have more than one version of a mould - it allows for the toys to be displayed in both modes - or can save the bother of Transforming something like ROTF Optimus toys.
