For me, I do find these obscure references more appealing. Since I have no fiction based attachment, homages to the old toys are right up my alley! It plays to my love of Takara SF Land, and the old toys. I had "Clampdown" as a kid /still have, so when they released him, I flipped at the chance to get an update. Even though Artfire isn't a Diaclone reference, or a character that I was all that familiar with in the first place, the design that went into his tampos grabs my attention because of the nod to the old style and design that went into the older toys. I prefer Road Rage to Tracks, because of the creative license taken to make her a her, and I prefer Loud Pedal to Tracks because he has that old Head design I loved as a kid. Also LP's deco... I will take blue Bluestreak to my grave.

I find myself loving the odd balls more than the proper releases. I'm not really sure why either. Maybe it's like, theiy're excited because they're always something you weren't expecting? If a new TF series debuts for example, you know there's going to be an Optimus Prime and (these days) Bumblebee. For the things that are expected, it's hard to get excited. Also it might be because these are things we never thought we'd see back when the MP line started. MP Bluestreak, then MP Silverstreak, THEN MP BLueblue?? Ten years ago, I couldn't have called that :-?

On the topic of the Vette mold, my thoughts are contradicting to how I normally veiw things and I'm the minority.

I think hands down, Tracks wears it best. The blue is stunning, the white wings, and the yellow details have a great contrast. Rager feels dull to me. Her red doesn't pop, and her dark blue secondary color just fades into the background. Loudy is much better, but I still feel takes a back seat to Tracks.

So this might be relevant stuff for the thread! Say hello to the uncirculated/un-released MP-23 Exhaust Coin! If y'all were keeping up on the news at the time, you know that there was all sorts of legal problems surrounding this figure. Amongst a ton of speculation of him being outright cancelled, they slightly modified his paint layout (which still didn't even satisfy Philip Morris lol) in order to get him on the shelf. But the coin wasn't so lucky. Little known fact, it was fully produced and ready to go before said changes occurred, so it was outright scrapped at the last second. And! My perseverance and patience paid off! Have a look:

Un-Released Transformers Masterpiece MP-23 Exhaust Coin Uncovered

Greetings Seibertron, we have a bit of a treat for you today! Remember that time when cigarettes almost ruined Transformers? I'm of course referring to the dramatic past of Takara/Tomy's Masterpiece MP-23 Exhaust, and the legal issues they had with Philip Morris. Amongst a ton of speculation of him being outright cancelled, he did eventually find his way to *some* store shelves. Unfortunately though, his Collector Coin wasn't so lucky. It may not be common knowledge that said coin was fully produced and ready to go, but didn't get a "quick fix" in time for release like the figure itself and the coin was abandoned. Where did the coins go, an incinerator? Left boxed up collecting dust in a factory somewhere? Much is unknown, but apparently some of them escaped that sad fate and we can now show you what could have been. See below!

Interesting. I don't exactly see what kept those from being sold with the figure in the first place; there's no Marlboro logo anywhere on them that I can see. Still, I... <takes lighter>... guess they had to be... <puts cigarette to lips>... extra careful... <flicks lighter>... when-- Oh, dear God, what am I doing?!

Melt those down. Melt them down and bury them where nobody will ever find them.

My guess is (and anyone please correct me if I'm wrong) is that the coins are only sold for MP releases outside Japan. Since Exhaust couldn't be legally sold outside Japan, the coins had zero use- they were to be included with a product that would never see the light of day in the market(s) it was intended for.

That never considered that! Very astute! ;)
You're right, I'm pretty sure every coin released is a Hasbro Asia thing, so that totally makes sense. And honestly once I got the coins in hand, I did notice there wasn't anything specifically infringing about it. I just didn't connect the dots

Peel back the sticker that says "exhaust". The Marlboro motif is there.

I did notice the sticker.... even wanted to peel it back just to see what was there as I thought it was odd. But.... the rareness and cost of it... kinda turns my stomach to think of altering it in any way.

Not that a I doubt your word, but how do you know this stranger? Do you have this coin too?

It's an interesting story. I have one. I picked it up on the street in singapore. It had a tag and I traced it back to an Instagram account (@payitforwardtoys). As part of a social project, he's leaving toys all over. it looks like he's associated with or worked for hasbro. Go check it out. It's all based on my own deduction. I PM'd the account and this is the info I got.

I'm not a transformers collector but googled because I wanted to know more about my find. I've actually peeled the sticker and can confirm that it has the Marlboro point under it. My damaged piece is with a toy store in singapore because I didn't know what to do with it.

Hope this helps anyone who had questions about this coin.

Orion Paximus wrote:I know that this thread is mainly talking about the Hasbro rendition of the MP-10 Optimus, but I just wanted to ask a question regarding the Takara MP-10.

Anyone know what I can do for the dead-looking eyes on the figure? I'm currently negotiating a price to purchase the Takara MP-10 from a fellow Seibertronian and want to see if I can get the necessary tools to make the adjustment so I can bring Prime's eyes to life.

Let me know with any solutions?
So.... there are options.

Option 1: Nonnef

Image

It says sold out, but they were sold out when I inquired too (he eventually made another batch). Long story, and it leads to...

Option 2: Leave Them Be.
I'll explain. My first MP10 (I have many lol) was the Hasbro TRU version. Bright blue eyes, no issue. But after some soul searching, I decided to buy everything Masterpiece, so I needed a Takara MP10 too. Luckily he gets reissued like every 4 months so I hopped on the next train. I'd heard about his "dead eyes", but it didn't bother me as I was only buying him for completions sake anyways, AND I'd planned to give him some yellow Nonnef eyes ala OG toy. Then he arrived. I was taken aback by how stunning his clear blue optics were. Yes, they can appear to be dead, but under the right light, they really pop. So much so, I even bought a second Takara MP-10 specifically to leave as is and still carry out my yellow eye'd plans. So I suggest maybe waiting will he's in hand before deciding the fate of said eyes?

Image

Image

Option 3: Paint Them Yourself?
Self explanatory.

Option 4: Buy The Next Hasbro MP-10
He's on his way, and lookin the same way he did last time, bright blue eyes and all. But! I will fight to the death of the superiority of the Takara MP-10.

Option 5: Stickers
There is a sticker set out there. I don't claim this as 100% accurate, but I think this set here (pic/link) has tiny silver stickers for the backs of MP-10's eyes, to make them more reflective.

Lets get something straight here. That's a KO. There is no MP-10V >:oP

But yes, I have MP-10B already, and minutes ago pre-ordered the reissue for... reasons...

The most recent MP's, have this logo stamped on them:

I don't know what it is, but it's there. And it's also on the most recent reissues. Starscream, Soundwave, and the two Cassette sets. If I were a betting man, I'd say this'll have it too. I have already committed myself to buying everything MP, including box variants... but this is so arbitrary and minuscule...... the struggle....

What is the scope with that new tag on the boxes? MP-37 and 38 are the first I've had with it.
Anybody got the skinny on the "Long Life" logo?

BBTS? What about importers? Either way, ironically this might be one of the cheapest ways to get a legitimate MP-10. It's a reissue, so direct retailer buy (no inflated secondary scalpers). And he's trailer-less, so the price is cut in half.

And seriously, the trailers are overrated. Having one is fine. But I sure didn't need the ones with SG, YOTH, or Eva. I'll never display them in truck mode, and there's only so much space for displaying.

Oh yeah. The new Design Award logo thingy, so far is on 36 and 37 (Megs and Arty). And thanks to the in hand shots of Mandarake, I noticed the recent reissues of SS, SW, and the Cassettes have it too.
