It is easy to forget how big MP Megs was

I'd like to see a comparison image between him and Siege Jetfire. But it doesn't look like anyone has taken those images. :???:

 Remembering things from Car Robots IE 21 years ago, is vague at best. I'm sure I heard it somewhere which is about as accurate as it gets.

That or I've confused things with this:

Image

With This bit on Megabolt Megatron:

If you remove the insect-legs from Megabolt's tank mode, he fits almost perfectly into the neck-socket of the Fortress Maximus mold.

Either way, it doesn't really matter.

I had to actually look up what that was. Just as a FYI, I copy image address links. Never even click on the sites. Why this seems ok with some and hotlinks for others, I don't know.

Yeah, TFormers (and TFU.info) doesn't like people posting their pics offsite, making them show up as broken pics for others. The way to get around this is to upload their image URLs to someplace like Imgur.

I see. Noted for the future anyway.

Incidentally, does anyone know the size difference between MP BW Megs and Siege Jetfire?

I got one last deluxe Transformers with my tax return and it's MP-49 Black Convoy A.K.A Nemesis Prime. With taxes and shipping it was around 282$CAN. Much better than the over 600$CAN of MP-44 Optimus Prime, especially for that trailer and tons of accessories that I'll never use.

Right of the bat, I had to test if he's compatible with the MP-10 trailer, notably the custom one I made for Legendary Nemesis Prime. The answer is ALMOST. I just have to customise the connector. As it is, it peg into something, but it's misaligned. It's still functional but it's not perfect. Maybe some Shapeway dude will make an adaptor eventually?

Image

Image

The truck mode is stellar safe for the obvious back end. But realistically, it's supposed to be barely a few frame with lot of empty space. So it's an non issue.

Image

Image

Transforming MP-49 is like climbing the stairs to the temple atop the mountain on your knees. It's long, painful, but a spiritual experience. There's lots of clever tidbits going on here. As usual, the instructions become quickly unreadable so I gave up following them halfway through and I played it by ear. The final result is an amazing robot mode that is 100% cartoon accurate if he ever had appeared in it.

Image

As promised, the posability of this guy is ridiculous. Think of a pose. ANY pose. He can do it.

Image

Image

Image

Image

He come with his gun and a blast effect. Pretty nice!

Image

To use his axe, you must remove one of his hand and peg it in it's place. It's awesome and very posable as well. Here he is alongside his Legendary counterpart. Same guys across parallel universes!

Image

I decided to display him with his axe to set him more appart from the Optimusses. He'll be keeping his "square" head and the round alternate head will remain in box.

Image

Overall, I'm very happy with him. Worth the money? Oh yes, if you don't count that out from the total price of 282$CAN, 120$ was for shipping and taxes alone.... At least, he came in 4 days from Japan! :)

I didn't realize Beast Megatron was that big. I've been considering getting him, it seems he would be in-scale with the original Optimus Primal ultra class figure.

I think the MP-44 mold rocks as Optimus, but for Nemesis I think he looks more aggressive and menacing as the MP-10 mold.

I'll agree on that one. Exactly the same as the Siege mold VS the ER mold for Optimus/Memesis. They didn't made Nemesis with the ER mold yet, but I'm pretty sure it would be the same. I loathe Siege voyager Optimus as Optimus, but as Nemesis, the mold rock!

MP-49 is mainly a way to experience MP-44 officially without having to pay the full price just to leave half of the total value in the box. Eh, even for MP-49 I leave 4 things in the box meaning the spare head, a hand, the blast effect, and the gun. I shudder of what will be left behind if I ever have MP-44.

Now, will I transform MP-49 back into his vehicle mode? Most likely but it will be in a while. That transformation is the most involved I ever did. Still, there was no frustrating steps like panels who won't align nor pegs that refuse to peg in. If something went wrong, it was always because I didn't saw some mini panels that wasn't unfolded. MP-49 is hard, but smooth. Just like she said! ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Many thanks, D-Max. After comparing the two, I do think MP Gigatron would have the right scale at Jetfire's height.

Now Skywarp 2.0 has been announced. With the earliest estimated street date of December. Now he wasn't part of the newest announcements ala Skids + redeco, Jetfire and Raiden. So that would be ten potential MP releases this year (obviously some of them are dubious for 2021). That seems like a lot more than normal?

I can't find all 10, what ones am I missing?

Skids
Skids redeco
Starscream
Skywarp
Thundercracker
Raiden
Jetfire

I wasn't even counting SS and Thundercracker. They completely slipped my mind... #-o

Raiden = a combiner team of six. So now that is 12 Masterpiece figures on the immediate horizon.

I doubt Raiden will be sold as a single box set, it would cost twice as much as Unicron if that were the case. Most likely they'll sell each train separately, probably for between $150 and $200 each at retail assuming they aren't TTM exclusives.

One thing is sure. That's one MP set I'll never buy. Appart the obvious too expensive, I have no attachment to the characters. And if I'd get the MP, I'd want the original G1 to go with it and we all know that the original is NOPE'd priced.

Is Raiden that much more popular than I realize? I admit my knowledge is very narrow - G1, Prime, the Bayverse and the netflix series, but it seems if they were to do a combiner they would go with either a bigger name - Devastator etc. or one that they can use some pre-existing molds to save cash, like Menasor.

Raiden is more popular in Japan then the west, given his exclusive nature (in both toylines), remember the Japanese Market always comes first in terms of which toys get made made as Masterpiece is a takara initiative (while Movie Masterpiece is a hasbro initiative).

Also takara designed CW Titan Class Devy to stand in a a Masterpiece Devy since they didn't know if they would ever do one.

But if Raiden ends up be the size of a normal CW Combiner, then each of his components may end up smaller than almost every MP toy released so far. Unlike the similarly small Blackarachnia, the Trainbots aren't so complex in their design, so we could be looking at six Deluxe-sized MPs that could easily be sold as a giftset for anywhere between Titan price and MP-44 price. Certainly not more than Unicron price.

Highly doubt this will be the case. If it's simple, Deluxe sized bots then why bother calling them MPs in the first place? They'd just be Takara Tomy Selects or something, no different from any other Generations combiner. I have no doubt Raiden will be 19" tall or so, otherwise there's no point in trying.

I will say the individual trains may be cheaper than I estimated based on the prices listed for Skids and Reboost.

They'd still be all new molds. Selects is for redecos and retools only. And a Deluxe-sized MP is still a MP, like the aforementioned MP Blackarachnia.

But Blackarachnia is only Deluxe sized because of scale, are the trains also smaller than most Autobots? I thought they were only a little shorter than the Headmasters or about the same size as Hot Rod who are all supposed to be taller than the original Diaclone based cars? Seems like anything less than Voyager height would be wrong. Scale is supposed to be a important to Masterpiece, why would they abandon that for a combiner of all things?

I'm saying that if Raiden turns out to be scaled to match the size of the other CW Combiners, then he and his components will be out of scale with the rest of the Masterpiece line to instead fit the scale of the Unite Warriors line, even though he'll be sold as MP with all the requisite MP-level engineering. The Trainbots will be tiny MPs if that turns out to be the case. It's the darn ambiguity of "Unite Warriors size" that leaves us so uncertain about his size.

I get that, but I still think they were talking about Devastator when they said that. If Raiden is only 12" tall then he has no place in the MP line and should just be a one-off project on its own IMO.
