Hasbro Masterpiece MP-10 Optimus Prime

Courtesy of Snakas' blog, it has been confirmed that Hasbro will be releasing the MP-10 version of Masterpiece Optimus Prime! It is currently unknown where or how it will be released, but what is interesting about this release is the ID Number - MP-10. Of course this is the ID Takara assigned it in their Masterpiece line, but Hasbro's own Masterpiece line has only gone to MP-08 so far with the relatively recent release of MP Bumblebee. This means that either Hasbro is now following Takara's MP numbering system, or we have another Hasbro MP release to look forward to other than Optimus. Regardless, take a look at the packaging of Hasbro's Masterpiece Optimus Prime below and tell us what you think in the forums!

Wasn't the previous Hasbro release of MP10 not considered part of the Masterpiece line?

I don't think so, it was officially part of the generic line.

Single releases hardly ever get a dedicated line from Hasbro. In fact, until now, all Masterpieces were put in whatever line was handy.

:EDIT: Note how it says "Cybertron Commander" and not "Autobot Commander".

But OP, not Convoy, kind of weird for that mix. What name does Takara use for MP-10? I know they used Convoy for MP-1, as I have that one.

MP-10 is still Convoy!

I was really hoping if Hasbro reissued this toy that it'd end up as MP-09 just to keep it different. It was already handy having them use '0' in the ID numbers, so one could say "MP-8" and mean Takara Grimlock, or "MP-08" and mean Hasbro Bumblebee. Oh well.

Looks like a straight-up reissue? Would be nice to know if anything will be changed for this second release by Hasbro.

Also, if Hasbro is trying to align their Masterpiece releases now with Takara's, they've got a LOOOOOOOOOOOONG way to go to catch up.

I think this will actually be the third release by Hasbro. There was the first one, sold via TRU, then the reissue of the same figure via Hasbro Asia. That reissue is still available on BBTS, for one.

not really, you can always add leading zeros, like mp-010 or even mp-0010

I seriously shudder every time I see a new TRU MP solicited. Generally speaking, they are freakin hard to come by. Only ones I recall being easy to find were Acid Storm and Bee. Their original release of MP10, Thundercracker(MP11), Starscream(MP11).... I did find in store, but only one of each and only once. They were pure luck.

Even the unpopular ones (Acid/Sun) didn't stick around forever. Bee is the only one really, and that was only due to the horrendous price.

Yup.... not looking forward to the hunt :(

So where's MP-09? 08 was Bee, 10 is OP, 09 is? Or are we just gonna not think about that?

Also please, please don't be a straight up repack of an earlier version. It probably is though.

To be fair, I'm sure there's got to be a segment of folks that drove demand for this. Anyone here that still hasn't picked this up over its history of plentiful global releases from Hasbro and Takara, where this release is the one where you're thinking "at last, I will buy that"? Note that I'm not talking about repaints either. The Hasbro one had the TRU run and I think two Hasbro Asia runs, and Takara's fifth or sixth run of MP-10 came out early this year/late last year iirc.

There are always new collectors who weren't around for the prior releases.
