Is there a smaller one? I thought Grimlock was only available as a larger figure? The small figures we've seen are Optimus, Bee, Starscream, and Megatron while the large figures are Optimus, Bee, and Grimlock. Am I mistaken?

That Grimlock actually doesn't look bad. I just don't like the head design in robot mode, or beast mode.

No, it's just confusing. I always thought that the figures posted just now were always that size. However, the post here and at TFW2005 suggests that smaller versions are available and that they've been compared to each other?

Has a mistake been made and was it by me?

Not naming the size classes is a good way of dropping the ball. There are as of now two Size Classes for Authentics: 4.5" (compare to RiD Mini-Con Battle Pack Bumblebee), and 7" (compare to Voyager Class). The lineup:

4.5"
Optimus Prime
Bumblebee
Starscream
Megatron

7"
Optimus Prime
Bumblebee
Grimlock

Ahh, so there's no mini Grimlock. For a moment before there, I rather hoped that there was going to finally be a decent, Voyager sized Grimlock made by Hasbro.

Silly me...

We did see those box mock ups for "Deluxe" and "Voyager" (or whatever they will call them) so there is a chance that we'll get one, but probably not while PotP Grimlock is still on shelves.

The worst part? Optimus Prime and Bumblebee look so similar in both classes, but the smaller ones have no elbows. That's the only way to tell them apart on images.

Dang more figures that will flood the shelves, because no-one will buy them.

If they do the Megatron in 7" I may have to get it.

Video Review for Transformers Authentics 7" Grimlock and Optimus Prime

The latest figures in the Authentics line, the simplified figures featuring the evergreen designs, were spotted recently in the Philipines and Cheatron wasted no time getting a review prepared. You can see him reviewing both the Grimlock and the Optimus Prime from that wave. In case people are confused about which figures these are, especially since the reviewer does not use any of the names used in this article, these are the voyager sized simplistic figures that we have been seeing under various names in different listings. There are smaller 4" figures which have Optimus, Bumblebee, Megatron and Starscream and there is a 7" line that just has Optimus, Bumblebee and Grimlock so far. Below is a review of that 7" Optimus and Grimlock.

There is no actual name for the line on the box/card. Hasbro has labelled it as the Authentics line, while this 7" line also goes by the name Project Storm in its store labeling, which is a name we have seen before in listings, not knowing what it was.

These toys are meant for a younger audience and have even stated appearing at Dollar General locations in the US, so please send us sightings.

For collectors who like these designs and would like figures with more traditional complexity, it seems that will be happening as well.

Without further ado, here is the review!

Does he really need to refer to the instructions so much?

Still want Grimlock, he just seems like a fun figure. Not necessarily good, just fun.

Transformers Authentics "Alpha" Assortment Sighted in Mexico

Thanks to a heads up from Seibertronian MaverickPrime, we have news that the Transformers Authentics figures have crossed the ocean and have landed in North America!

He spotted these figures, which are the 3 larger "Alpha" figures, at his local Walmart for $219 MXN, which is around $12 US. The "Alpha" assortment are the 7", roughly voyager sized figures, and they are Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, and Grimlock. These "Alpha" figures have yet to be seen in America, though the "Bravo" 5" figures have been, but it is nice to know that the "Alphas" have crossed the ocean and at least landed in Mexico. With this sighting, we can only hope that this means that the figures are soon to be seen at US retail.

For those who don't remember, these Authentics figures are based on the new "Evergreen" body style Hasbro is using, and they are larger, cheap toys with short and simple transformations.

Let us know what you think of this North American sighting of the Alpha Authentics below, and let us know if you see these guys showing up elsewhere around the world!

What wall? :???:

On topic, a Walmart of all places? I guess the smaller ones are for the budget chains, while the bigger ones are for big box retailers?

The "wall" is short for Walmart. ;)

Wait, the 5" ones showed up in the US? I must have missed it. When and where?

I am 99% sure we did not have a sighting, but TFW did one, from someone finding them at Dollar General or something like that.

Wait a minute.

This line has "Alpha" figures, and "Bravo" figures.

Authentics Alpha Bravo confirmed. All praise our lord and savior Alpha Bravo.

Thanks to a notification from fellow Seibertronian -Kanrabat- we now have a third video review from the Transformers Authentics toyline, after the ones for Optimus Prime and Grimlock covered here - and the newcomer is none other than The Chosen One, Lord Starscream himself!

Check out the clip embedded below, let us know what you think of this smaller scale (about Legends class) figure's jet and robot mode, and the simpler transformation of the line in general, as the characters take on the 'evergreen' designs meant to call back to a general 'iconic' aesthetic, all in the Energon Pub discussion boards!
