Which kind of begs the question of why they used Megatron for SG Megs rather than the Galvatron mold, since it more closely matches the original SG Megs since it used the Energon mold.

It would be interesting to see if they do give this Galvs wings and a jet mode of some kind.

I see your point in that question... Isn't SG Megatron based on the ER version? If so, Hastak probably wanted to use that mold again.
It seems to me that the SG line is being centered more on color schemes than specific molds.
Which I'm not saying is ideal, but seems this was an issue for Starscream as well in some peoples' opinions.

He is based on the Siege one, actually. The current SG line focuses on keeping the original body (to keep them recognizable to the broader general public and not just the fans), but changing colors and heads. Nothing else. For the figures so far released, it works, with Megatron straddling the limits, but a possible SG Galvatron... ho boy.

Still, Megatron is the only one that goes out of his way to look like his SG version, with added parts no less.

All other SG releases so far have been straight repaints with a new head in some cases.

Why go to all the trouble with Megs, with extra wings and a cockpit to make him look like himself, but use a body that he never had. Anybody that cares who this is, knows that the body is not right. Anybody that would buy megs for being an Autobot, would likely also buy Galvs for the same reason.

Still, Maybe they've other plans for Galvatron, beyond the wireframe and toy accurate colors.

The've already used the Megatron mold what.. 6 times? 7? I guess giving Galvatron 3 or 4 uses is not out of the question.

SG Goldbug was also a large departure from the source material... yet the new one is the ER mold with a new head.

Just consider it another SG universe variant (we already have 2), and leave it at that

Good point. Who would they have used for Goldbug? Maybe Wheeljack to give him the futuristic sports car look?

Which makes me want a new Cyb Hotshot mold. Maybe in a few years when Cybertron celebrates its 20th anniversary.

Though the siege Hound repaint was pretty good for Cybertron Cybertron Defense Cybertron Hotshot. :HEADHURTS:

And the funny thing is, it totally works if you think outside the box a bit.

What would you have had them do differently with the other two, out of curiosity? The only thing I really see that they could have done to improve the homages would be if Screamer's swords were arm-mounted, since the alt modes already match as good as they're going to.

Overcracker wrote:Why go to all the trouble with Megs, with extra wings and a cockpit to make him look like himself, but use a body that he never had. Anybody that cares who this is, knows that the body is not right.
Personally, I think I actually like this better than if he had used the Galvatron mold. It makes it so he's less expensive but still evocative of the original, the Megatron mold's accessories match the original better than anything that Galvatron mold has, and the new parts didn't seem to remove his ability to use the tank mode, so now he's a triple-changer, the uniqueness of which appeals to me. Plus, his other alt mode being a tank serves as a stealth-reference to the Rumbler tank weapon he came with before (regardless of if it's intentional or not).

Overcracker wrote:Good point. Who would they have used for Goldbug? Maybe Wheeljack to give him the futuristic sports car look?
I know some people were suggesting Runamuck, to give him the increased size of the SG design while being evocative of the Throttlebot design, but if they really wanted to match the alt mode of the Hot Shot mold I think the closest they would be able to do is use SS86 Hot Rod, right? They're probably saving that for a potential SG Rodimus though, and if everyone else is just a repaint of their G1 self it wouldn't have made sense to break convention for just Goldbug.

I STILL want a CD Red Alert from ER Doubledealer to go with that Hot Shot, the fact they haven't done it yet pains me.

I was thinking if they're are doing Shattered Glass, will they move on to other formerly Botcon-only stuff? Like, for example, do pre-Earth bodies for the Beast Wars cast and such?

It looks like Hasbro wants to disassociate this Shattered Glass with the previous Shattered Glass so I assume SG Megatron is the same mold as Siege Megatron because it is Megatron and not Galvatron, regardless of the origin of the original figure. Hasbro wants people with Siege or ER, since they look so similar, Megatron to see this as the 'evil twin' which would not work with the Galvatron mold. Why they went with Siege instead of ER when the SG Autobot pack used ER I have no clue. But whatever new fiction they cooked up, Megatron is Megatron and so he needs to be a Megatron.

I saw Starscream with its Coronation gear on eBay. I was seriously thinking about it because it's Starscream but I saw that the blast effects for it were already bent in the box. Typical RED quality.
