I don’t have a huge sample size of either line, but I don’t think that’s necessarily the case. I mean, compare SS Starscream to POTP Starscream. That being said though, $30 is a little high for a voyager class figure.

Considering the deluxes were around 20, which was already too much in my opinion I would assume the voyagers will be more. I honestly think 20 to 25 dollars is a good price for a voyager and certainly not a deluxe.

I can justify a deluxe costing about 12 to 15 or so. Even 15 feels a bit much but considering that the Prime Wars Trilogy has such good figures I don't mind paying more because it feels worth it. But yeah, 30 bucks for a voyager? Get outta here. I can see Brawl on Amazon for 29.99. No. Just no.

If they want us to pay more for something they need to give us bang for our buck. Yeah I'll admit I bought the Studio Series Ratchet on impulse. I regret paying 20 bucks for him, but I do like the figure. I wanted a movie Ratchet for my collection since I didn't have one. I found this figure to have loose parts and a lack of painted details. Granted I can fix the figure up (when I am less lazy) but I won't be buying any of these toys for full price at the store anymore.

If the figure can only come with ONE weapon, this make sense. It's also making the repaint more worth getting.

They won't give you more bang for the buck though as they need to maintain profit margins against rising production costs. This is capitalism and it sucks.

Exactly. It's either the prices rise, or the toys get "trimmed down". No one want THAT to happen to whole lines, right?

FOC Jazz:

--Packaging proudly say "COME WITH A GUN!" Gun is a dinky little thing.
--Hollow parts everywhere
--Very thin semi-soft plastics, almost clear

--Barely any paint

But eh, it the same price at the RTS Jazz that came out some years ago. So it's all right!

Depends what you like I guess. I didn't find any of the Power of the Primes figures even worth buying. None appealed to me at their prices at all. There are a couple I may consider if I find them on heavy clearance but nothing more (and many I still wouldn't... PotP Jazz was reduced to £10 and I still couldn't muster up any enthusiasm to purchase it as to me it looks like junk especially since I used to own his far superior Takara repaint of the Reveal the Shield figure which I just noticed a pic of above). I've happily paid £23 each for a couple of my Studio Deluxes and even £30 each for Jazz and Lockdown and loved them both too. My Voyagers were various prices (Starscream was £33, Megatron was £30 and Prime was £27) and been very happy with those. Grimlock ehhh. I wish that one had been cheaper. I paid £53 and I was quite disappointed with the dino mode overall (and will likely pay the extra for the DNA Design upgrade kit). I don't really find many Transformers figures worth paying more than £50 for and certainly none of the Prime Wars stuff had me wanting to spend anywhere near that much (£50-£55 for blocky stuff like Leader class Blaster, a bunch of bricks that turns into a brick that contains little bricks? No thanks). Weird thing is a certain shop here in the UK (The Entertainer) charges the same price for Titans Deluxes as it did for TLK and now Studio deluxes. I think they corrected that with Power of the Primes deluxes but i cant remember but still I just find Studio's toys just better value for me personally because I get greater value out of the more complex and detailed movie designs than I ever do with the much more simplistic and blocky G1-esque types. So yeah it's down to personal taste and preference as to what you consider is worth your own money. :) I got £66 saved up for Ironhide and RotF Starscream here, and yeah i know it's a fair bit of cash but I genuinely love this line and it's figures more than any other toyline in a very long time and I'm sure they'll please me like the ones I have already bought have. :)

@kanra precisely, we can demand a better deal for ourselves but we also have to be realistic and look at all angles.

That is honestly one thing I never understood. I guess the majority of people are either fooled into buying things (again I readily admit that I have made some purchases like that and its bummer when it happens) or B just accept something sub par when they know they should be getting something better.

Guess I gotta watch more reviews and pay better attention.

I almost want him for the buzzsaw...

I already have the first movie version and I like him without the tattoos, but this one is very tempting. If I see it in stores at a slight discount, sure.

I have the movie 1 toy, and I like him enough to not buy the original Quad-S to replace him.

But waiting for the tattooed look for Quad-S? with the saw? That is what I wanted. Perfect.

Now to eventually find wave 2 (I want all 4) and then get Screamer after

And no the upscaling goes full circle.

I owned the DOTM Deluxe Starscream back In 2012 when I was a kid. I loved that thing. Essentially what SS Screamer is, is That figure upscaled (Basically Hasbro knocking themselves off) With a 2007 Movie based deco. I like what's happening here. Plus they're including a new accessory with the repaint that was cancelled for the first one. Only thing that's left now is for them to add a little arm mounted Gattling Gun accessory and I'm sold.

It may look like an upscale but it's not, this was talked about a lot during the early pages of this thread. Screamer shares a transformation scheme but has a ton of new and different parts.

The original 2007 toy looks oddly like Sky-Lynx in comparison, with all that stuff underneath you'd half expect it to seperate and transform into a beast mode thing. By the way it took me way too long to get what you meant by 'Quad-S' (Studio Series StarScream, right?). :P

Yeah it's not a simple upscale like the oversized KO of the DotM Deluxe, it's just very much based on the Deluxe but takes advantage of the larger size for more detail and some extra bits (mostly those torso filler bits that unfold from the wings).

So it's less a case like "G2 Smokescreen --> Energon Starscream" and more like "G2 Smokescreen --> 2010 Terradive".

I highly disagree, I find those toys so different from one another (and they are different characters anway). This really isnt about shared engineering or whatnot, it is upscale. But upscale while adding detail.

The best comparison would be the other actual upscale of BH Predaking from Legion to Voyager.

Isn't Hasbro's number for Ironhide 14? -So while :TAKARATOMY: is releasing the exact same figures, it would appear the numbering sequence isn't following suit. It was "one off" because of Thundercracker, but after that, it gets all kinds of wonky.

Also I was wondering what the other "Ratchet" is on :TAKARATOMY: list. It appears to be a Voyager rather than a Deluxe. Or am I reading the proicuing scale incorrectly? If so, this would be the first studio series character to be released in different size classes, which I thought might be a big no-no unless their forms in different films were different enough to warrant it (i.e. Soundwave...)

Anything past 14 / SS-13 are guesses. Those two numbers are next in their respective sequence however :)

You're reading the prices wrong, they're more in line with the rest of the world if you're only taking the last two digits off:

1,200 Yen: One-Step
2,800 Yen: Deluxe Class (which is what the second Ratchet falls under)
4,500 Yen: Voyager Class

No...I was reading the prices correctly, I just didn't realize the toys were so expensive 2800 Y is roughly $25.00 U.S. (currently), and that's what I'm used to paying for a Voyager, not a deluxe... I figured the toys were *about* the same price in whatever country you by them, it's just that importers pay extra taxes, and of course have to make a profit themselves, which is why a typical :TAKARATOMY: deluxe is like around $35 on BBTS. Now though, with the brand unifications, it appears there is little to no incentive to import these toys, when you end up basically paying DOUBLE for the exact same toy, same packaging, just Japanese lettering being the only difference.

Thats because in Japan there is a huge difference between MSRP and the retail price. Always has been. In Japan, all these toys are available at retail for 25-30% less than that MSRP price listed above. Its more of a price point rather than the actual price of the figures. So yes, actual retail prices in Japan and US are comparable.

Right on the money on that one. There's similarities in the engeneering of both dragons, but MAN, does the "voyager" Predaking kills it. For me, it's the defenitive mold of the character.

Yeah I go easy on majority of the 2007 movie figures since it was a whole new style of aesthetic and engineering Hasbro had to figure out how to get across in toy form so they weren't gonna be perfect and some were even great toys in their own right even when not particularly accurate (like Leader Optimus Prime). Not saying I particularly want to own any of them now (the only 2007 figure on my shelf is Arcee since I love that one and she has no updated figure of that design since it was never used in the films) but yeah I can understand the appeal of them.
