How about 450$ for an Optimus Prime?

I dunno, maybe she was just feeling happy today, or maybe she hated her job? I think she was happy though, but eh.

Also, someone on Reddit said they scored SS38 Bumblebee Optimus Prime for 7$ at Walmart when they scanned the price with the app. Can anyone confirm that?

Its too bad you dont have a reciept to share for any of the nice deals you spoke of lately. It would help us see what happened and how it was identified along with showing proof of the deal.

I posted my own clearance finds for the two back in April, you even replied, didn't seem like news back then. Strange thing is they're still restocking them and there isn't a Rollback tag on the shelf.

Quick question, when were Long Haul and Hightower due for release?

They aren't due until this summer, so we shouldn't expect pre-orders to be filled online for another month or 2 and store sightings probably will start around then, but saturation most likely won't be until August, my guess

Studio Series KSI Boss Review

PostPosted: Fri May 31, 2019 8:35 pm
by Stargrave
Happy Friday fellow Seibertronians this just in from YouTube reviewer PrimeVsPrime it’s the review for the Transformers Studio Series #43 Last Knight KSI Boss! And wow, as far as straight repaints go, this fella is quite a winner. Talk about a knight and day difference.

As noted in the review there are inaccuracies from the movie character, to the box art which for this release uses Zeus’s stock art despite KSI Boss’s art being on file, to the actual figure - especially in regards to the antennas on the head sculpt, and KSI Boss’s pictured flail weapon on his left arm which is still just Zeus’s Gatling gun. Despite these differences there is no denying this looks like a much higher quality toy.

The paint applications follow the similar simplicity of the knight motif such as Cogman and Last Knight Megatron but with this effort we are treated to a deep grey accented by gold metallic and blue details. The paint which catapults this figure into a different class however is primarily dedicated to the front of the robot mode, with most of the back of the figure remaining unpainted. Also included is the Hong Kong pursuit background scaled to look appropriate for Voyagers.

The reviewer noted that for the third use of this mold (Nitro Zeus, Thundercracker, now KSI Boss) the joints appear to be very well put together and are quite tight. He also states the issue he’d had with his original Nitro Zeus’s thruster panels on his back coming off during transformation is no longer present.

This appears to be an overall touch up and improvement of the toy and not just a simple repaint which is always positive to hear. If anyone missed this on the original release and Thundercracker didn’t quite fill the bill here’s your chance. Let us know if you’ll be picking this one up or if it's a solid pass.

Once again, stock photography does a figure no favors, as I thought up until now that his base color was the same as Nitro Zeus. That dark silver looks gorgeous though, I'm very glad to be getting this figure, especially since I don't own this mold yet.

Wow, that's a lot of silver paint. I guess that's why everyone else has unpainted rims. :p

What an improvement though over the OG toy though. That metallic silver looks so much better than the flat grey. If I didn't have Thundercracker already I think I'd definitely pick up this guy.

Speaking of ol' TC, he's finally won me over. I think unfirling the wings in robot mode helps. He's not the most dynamic, and his kneepads pop off if I blow on them, but I can't deny that he's just kinda fun, and his colours and sculpt are great.

Now Hasbro, how's about a Skywarp repaint? :D

Crap, it just dawned on me. You know we'll be getting 3rd party balls in our future now, wont we?

And the stupid juvenille in me well be tempted, won't I?

Well, if you decide to indulge your inner juvenile why not just get some ball bearings and cheap jewelry chain? Probably beats paying $30 for a 3P kit, especially something like that.

I found one at the Walmart I work at and the box is damaged, but the figure and Scorponok are not harmed, so if I can get it at a discount (plus my employee discount on top of that) is the figure worth it? I've looked at a couple of reviews, but I'm still not ready to pull the trigger. I like the chopper mode, but not the robot mode. He looks more appealing at $35 than at $50, though.

At 35 i say go for it. Your getting a lot of toy for very little.
Of course, if you are not interested in ROTF Optimus Prime levels of complexity, then stay away.
RoTF Leader Prime is my favorite non-MP TF, I love the complex transformation. So if Blackout is similar, he's definitely worth it. I'll probably pick him up tonight! Thanks! ;)^

That's a sweet price! I paid full price for mine, but I'm still happy with him.

Regarding the Constructicons, has there been so much a peek at what Mixmaster and Scavenger will look like yet?

Posting this here in case it doesn't get news'd.

TakaraTomy has uploaded a new web series called "3 Transformers", starring the Studio Series toys of Optimus Prime, Ratchet, and Bumblebee.

A parody of The 3 Little Pigs, this first episode is titled "Let's Make a House!"

From what I can gather from the bad auto-translation of the closed captions, in the year 20XX, three Transformers (Optimus Prime, Ratchet, and Bumblebee) come to a new land to live there, and each decide to build a house for them all to live in.

Bumblebee decides to build a house made of straw because it is light and easy to work with, completing his work in less than a day. Optimus, however, is worried that the straw house may not be able to withstand an attack should one occur, and Ratchet thus decides to build a more durable house. Bumblebee, however, does not take their concerns to heart, basically telling them both not to worry so much.

Nonetheless, Ratchet proceeds to build a stronger house out of wood and made with more care, which takes him two days to complete. Optimus is more impressed with this house, but still can't shake his anxiety.

So, Optimus takes it upon himself to build an even stronger house, this time one made with bricks. Unlike the others, it take Optimus a whole five days to complete the brick house. And it turns out to be a good thing that he finished when he did, too, because, all of a sudden, the ground begins to shake.

"The footsteps of a sinister sound echoed in the distance."

To be continued...

If anyone is curious, that's a Zoids Death Rex at the end. I figured it was a Zoid from the feet and it didn't take long to find one on HLJ. I was hoping this would end with a SS Devastator full preview, but I guess not yet.

As I still contemplate Blackout, a thought occurred: is Grindor larger than Blackout on screen? If so, will he ever get a SS figure? I thought about buying Blackout and just using him as Grindor, despite 'Blackout' being painted on his tail, in case a Grindor figure is out of the question and sticking with the original voyager Blackout figure.

I think Grindor might be bigger on-screen, not sure. Optimus' climbing up onto him makes it seem like that's the case but it's hard to tell. That said, a Leader Blackout nonetheless scales better with movie figures outside of SS than the Voyager, plus he's more accurate.

Grindor differs from Blackout in more ways than just his colors. While Blackout is a Sikorsky MH-53 Pave Low, Grindor is the slightly different Sikorsky CH-53E Super Stallion. The former model was retired from active service in 2008.

For Grindor, some slight vehicle mode retooling may be in order.

They might not bother, since Grindor's robot mode doesn't account for the differences. But then again they might, just to make him different beyond being silver.

At this point, I'm not expecting a Grindor to come out until at least next summer/fall, if at all.

we know 2 Leader figures next year are Overload and Scavenger, so a 3rd would probably come out next year at the same time the leader Prime this year comes out.

I very much doubt we will get a Grindor

Hopefully that means it’ll be shipping from Pulse sooner than the September 1 estimate!

Also, there’s a 360 degree view of the figure on that page! That’s our first look at the back of the jet pack and weapons platform. The paint deco is the one from toy fair though (bright red and yellow fade), which is interesting because we now have no less than 3 different stock images of this Prime with slightly different decos.

I dunno, it would be a way to get more money out of the Blackout mold.

Would be a good litmus test: if Grindor is released as a straight redeco of Blackout, how many fans will complain about the vehicle being inaccurate and talk down on the Studio Series as a whole? :-?

They released this thing, didn't they?:

People hate this thing's guts for being inaccurate, and it is still shelfwarming since... December? Primus...

Either way, whether they retool the copter to leave an inaccurate robot, or redeco the mold to have an inaccurate copter mode, fans will still be bothered, so it all boils down to whatever you prefer.

I know that, but I wanted to focus on the criticism about his inaccuracy to the movie character, much like the discussion about whether or not Grindor should be a retool or redeco of Blackout.

And on the subject of Dropkopter, while it may be fiddly to handle and transform, it is nowhere near Bold Forms Gladius...
