All of once, in "Madman's Paradise", where he swatted aside boulders with it. Like Snarl's sword, it was colored as shining silver (as per his packaging art, the commercials, and the Diaclone toy).

The sword would be nice to have, don't get me wrong, but I understand us not getting it with him; most of his mass allowance went to his actual body, and some of what was left got used up on the Wheelie minifigure (Whether that's a worthwhile trade is debatable).

I wonder if a Leader Swoop would have the spare mass for other Dinobots' accessories.

Pretty sure it was meant to be his sword (it's missing a lot of the detail aside from the square crossguard, but that's Season 3's animation quality for you, and the Marvel comics were often as bad). And the metal color jibes with his packaging art as well as the commercials. Snarl's sword is also metal colored in the cartoon.

Well in that case, isn't this Grimlock the most animation accurate yet then without his sword ;) isn't that what people wanted?

Like Kup, something is just off about Blurr. Maybe it's the size of the arm kibble. Maybe it's his huge chin. Maybe it's his skinny legs. Maybe it's how his chest looks fake but actually isn't. Maybe it's all of them at once. His deco is great, but even so I don't see this as an improvement over TR Blurr.

I'm actually pleasantly surprised by Grimlock's robot mode, it's bulky and well-detailed, and it has clear plastic on the chest. If his chest were gold and not bright yellow, he'd look really nice. But then the dino mode reminded me why I've never really liked G1 Grimlock's design, because nothing strikes fear into the sparks of Decepticons like a robot Barney. :HEADHURTS: Wheelie's just lame, not gonna lie. The rest of the Dinobots will probably determine whether I want Grimlock.

So has SS86 been confirmed to be part of regular SS and not a subline, and this is the next wave of SS?

It is both part of Studio Series...and not, as it has it's own number system. So yeah its a bit weird

There's nothing "Robot Barney" about Grimlock's dino mode  Nothing plush, huggable, or anthropomorphized. The only impediment to it looking threatening here is the headsculpt seeming to lean too close to the cartoon's stylized squaring of his upper snout.
Image
G1 toy head for comparison.

But even with that, the teeth and his hulking size still make him imposing.

Tuned Agent wrote:Wheelie's just lame, not gonna lie.
Yeah, I would rather have had another accessory instead of the Wheelie mini-figure.

I'm fairly certain that Grimlock used his sword often during the series, I remember seeing it more than his rifle. I'm calling it now, Daniel is going to be a retool of Whelie

Especially Daniel in his Exo suit.

I think the deal was he never used the sword in the 86 movie, just the rifle, so this figure only has the rifle. (forgive me if someone already said that on this thread)

Would've been nice for Grimlock to have a sword, but it makes a lot more sense to come with Wheelie considering the movie. Its also possible they'll have Swoop at a voyager size but leader class price point and give him accessories for other dinobots.

Either way I'll probably stick with my MP Grimlock and just get the other 4 SS dinobots

Question, for those complaining about the 86 line, will you feel the same way if the next subline is based on the Beast Wars movie(s)?

You're getting him mixed up with Snarl, who only ever used his sword in the cartoon (albeit to shoot lasers from the tip).

If they are Live action movies, I will not complain. My biggest complaint is that G1 cartoon style is in every TF line now. I just want some love for my favorite part of TF, the 5 movies.

In that case, your memory is playing tricks you.

So Grimlock. Yes. Will buy. It's not hard to sell me on a Grimlock, he's my favorite Autobot. Looking forward to the rest of the dinobots (hopefully). Although I do prefer Grimlock having red eyes, I understand that's not cartoon or movie accurate so I'm willing to look past it. Also would have rather he come with his sword rather than a non-transforming Wheelie, but once again I understand this is based on the movie and he didn't use it in the movie (or evidently the cartoon for that matter) and all that.
Blurr...yeesh. I'm probably going to pass and keep using TR Blurr as my Blurr. I think it's the arm kibble and head sculpt that really bug me.
Still plan on getting Kup, Scourge and Hot Rod.
I'm not too thrilled about how Jazz came out, but I'll probably get him to take my POTP Jazz's place.

Preordered all of the ‘86 guys. Blurr is what I wanted in a Generations Blurr for a long while, Titans Return was close but the Headmaster gimmick and colors ruined it for me. Grimlock looks good in spite of no sword (yeah yeah, he didn’t have one besides one frame in the cartoon, whatever), but Wheelie is automatically lame for having limited posability and not transforming. The saving grace for him is if his slingshot is removable and is 5mm compatible. >:oP

Devastator is nice for those who missed out on getting all of the Constructicons, but a punch to the nethers to those who don’t have a complete Devastator yet, particularly the ones that command higher prices for some odd reason. The backdrop is nice though, that would probably be the one thing from it I wish I had.

They do and I'm trying to understand what went so wrong when TR Blurr has basically the same transformation but doesn't look like an eye sore.

Sabrblade wrote:Two guesses as to why Jazz has a 14 on his doors instead of a 4.

The more pleasant guess: G1 Jazz had a 4 on his doors while G2 Jazz had a 1 on his, and so Hasbro just put those two numbers together for some reason.

The, uh, unpleasant guess: Another hidden message like with POTP Jazz (which I would very much want to NOT be the case).

He doesn't have a 4 to avoid the racecar licensing. The 14 is a reference to his diaclone number.

Evidently they wanted to completely cover the hands this time (which even the G1 toy doesn't do), while also avoiding the inversion of the arms that's part of the TR figure's transformation. And the result is that Blurr's underarm panels are reeeeally bulky.

Agreed! I'm sure there couldve been a way to have the kibble wrap around or collapse better, seems like a step backwards from great figures in the WFC line and even what we've seen in some SS '86 figures already. I dont mind the minor issues like with jazz but those arms are a little excessive lol

Thats a shame, I honestly would've preferred hand visibility in vehicle mode over those veggie straws attached to his arms lol. I'm trying to make myself feel better by imagining him using them as batons/armor or having him flip them out in robot mode to use as clubs or something haha

Broke: redoing G1 Blur

Woke: A new version of Armada Blur.

They all look nice.
Edit:Grimlock in particular looks very cool.

Day 290 of waiting for Transformers Armada masterpiece news.

Well, I would be in for the Micromasters, but I despise Amazon. Might get Grimlock. HotRod, and Kup. Scourge I'm unsure about. I was going to get Blurr and then I saw his face, so now I'll be getting one if I can find a good custom to use him for.

While i like the new detailings on Scrapper and Mixmaster, I think the dirt smudging on Long Haul is ugly. I was able to get all 8 Constructicons before this so theyre the ones ill be sticking with :CON:
