Yet more Menasor...

What is *up* with so many Transformers getting repainted as Mensaor? Well okay, so there have only been two, but that's still a surprising number to me.

I was really annoyed when LoC Optimus Prime was repainted as Menasor. I read on a website somewhere before its release that it was going to be Onslaught, which would have been great- Onslaught's a cool character who actually does transform into a truck (of sorts), so when I saw it in a shop, plastered with the name of a character who doesn't even have an alt mode, I was royally pissed off.
And now, I discover this! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/TRANSFORMERS-TITA ... dZViewItem

What were they thinking? Seriously!?

Okay, so my angry rant is slightly unjustified, but it does make sense to a degree- Menasor doesn't transform into anything, so making a toy of him with an alt mode seems utterly pointless when there are so many better characters out there that haven't been redone in any way. Additionally, neither of the repaints actually look much like Menasor anyway- the head and the basic body colour are right, but where are his differently coloured arms? I just don't understand...

Well, in the first place, this is old news.

Secondly, there are far worse excuses for TF repaints *koff*Universe*koff*, and far more IMPORTANT characters who've suffered because of Repaint Madness - painting Megatron purple does not a Galvatron make, nor a white Optimus sans trailer ULTRA Magnus, IMO.

Finally, mucking with the Combiner/gestalt/Special Team "names" is also nothing new to Hasbro's TF lines of the past 10 years.

Old it news it is, but I only discoverd the Titanium one this evening and it brought it all rushing back to me...

Legends Trypticon is a travesty as well, and it could have been such a good Hun-Gurr or Sinnertwin too. I'll still buy it though. Need more Legends.....

I like it.

It's a nice way to re-use one of the superior titanium molds in the line. And I'm a sucker for black/dark nemesis style repaints.

About the only re-paint that concerns me & constantly annoys me is Ultra Magnus. Menasor has never had as many re-paints as Magnus has. Besides, the colors scheme makes him more Menasor-y to me. It's not really that big of a deal. At least this coming season, Magnus isn't a Prime re-paint.

Hasbro also does it from time to time to keep the rights to a name.

I figured that the Cybertron toy would have been enough to keep the name for a while.

I was expecting Hasbro to call the purple repaint of LoC Prime Motormaster, a name I feel would have fitted both the LoC and Titanium figures.

Menasor as just a name probably just sells more figures than Motormaster, people seem to remember the gestalt names far easier than any of the individual components.

Basicly they don't have the name Motormaster trademarked currently, which would have fit the Legends figure nicely and what I'm tending to think of as Black Rodimus adequately. Menasor was used for the only Giant Planet Decepticon in Cybertron so reusing the name was cheap and easy.
