I always wanted the original G1 Omega Supreme since my childhood. Then lately I decided to look up a video review. When I saw how the original "transformed", I nope'd.

I like the motorized aspect though. Especially in alt mode.

That nice but the fact that it's basically a model kit, especially with all those tiny yellow clips is unforgivable for me.

But if you like motorised Transformers, I recommend the original G1 Skylinx. He's big, he roll, and he walk! Plus the reissue is not rare and inexpensive if you shop around.

As Omega Supreme is my favorite TF of all time (obviously), I'd like to weigh in on the original toy. I thought it was pretty cool. I didn't have a lot of Transformers growing up, but I guess the idea of having fewer larger ones, rather than many small-average ones effects my collecting even to this day. I got the original toy when it was brand new in 1985 as a gift from my parents. I was 9. The Transformation was simple enough, it's just I remember that sliding the tank treads in and out of the tank to form the core of the legs was frustrating to the point that I eventually broke the motorized mechanism. So in tank mode he was fine (still rolled), and he could transform fine, but couldn't walk anymore :( . Also the various smaller yellow clips on the back of his legs eventually all were lost. Other than that, I thought it was a pretty cool toy, but of course I am so happy to have the Siege one as a centerpiece of my modern collection. :-D .

Also I recall at an amusement park in the late 80's seeing the original Mechabot-1 in a gift shop. I don't remember the price, but because it was a japanese import I'm sure it was quite expensive. Because of the colors I thought it was a Guardian ;) .

Nice! Look like you have no choice but to store part of your collection in box and rotate from times to times.

My collection is becoming a bit hectic so I should probably store some away myself.
And do some dusting. Oh god the dusting.................

Who are his partners...? I don't remember.

What I do know is that that huge gun (as well as Ironhide's) looks good with a leader-sized figure, especially Magnus.

Also, I just decided to sell my MISB Siege Ratchet and I had no idea how much he pulls on the 2ndary market. I listed him and *poof* he was gone in minutes.

I have G1 Point-blank and he's fantastic, along g1 Crosshair. But the current Siege Crosshair is a fail. In a line of "mini masterpiece" Crosshair being an Ironhide repaint is lazy. I want a proper modern update, along Point-blank.

Here, we differ.

I really like Crosshairs, and don't mind at all that's he an Ironhide repaint. Why not? Many Transformers are the 'same model' as others, and there's an upgrade kit to make him look a bit more unique should you want that.

Siege Crosshair look nothing like the original. When all the other bots look perfect, even Springer, it's unfortunate for him. As if he's left out. And that upgrade kit does nothing.

I've fine with the Siege figure. Like with most Siege figures I think of him as his past Cybertronian form rather than his '80s "future Earth vehicle" form (or at least that's how I see all of the movie and later car designs).

It's not just the vehicle that is wrong. The bot mode too. He don't even have the right head!
So for me, it's not Crosshair, but his "brother" or something.

Since this line is supposed to be about cartoon accuracy then you should recognize that as his cartoon head (which I prefer, it sets him apart from the other Targetmasters like it did Triggerhappy).

What was also used in the toy commercials.

And the Marvel comics.

I'm guessing that's the design they were originally working with, but then changed the toy face too late for everything else to change with it (or Hasbro simply forgot to tell everyone else it changed).

Once again, the cartoon did what it bloody wanted. In that regard, the Siege one is indeed perfect.

Call me an oddball, but I would really want a TOY accurate modern update to G1 Ironhide. Odd proportions, sled, and flat "head" behind the windshield and all! 8-)

Well it's accurate to one version of the animated series

Truth be told however, this is one of a few rare instances where I actually prefer the look from The Rebirth/U.S. Toy commercial as opposed to the actual original toy/Headmasters anime look. Usually I prefer the latter.

Even for G1 standards, the inconsistencies of Crosshair are ridiculous.

Everything just has to come full circle one way or another. Incidentally, I love mine as the weapons geek he is, he's the first I try new weapons on. First Cog, then Firedrive (for the Pinpointer redeco I still want, but missed out on) and then the Fossiliser weapons. What will be next?

Now see that is the kind of creativity Takara would do, and it would be awesome to see
And, for those wondering, yes, "Gilthor" is his name. We finally have official confirmation from his creator, Masumi Kaneda, on how to spell his name in English (the "h" is silent, so it is still spoken like "gill-tor"). 8-)

...what?

Masumi Kaneda answered on Twitter. He said he named it after an evil submarine from an old Japanese series called National Kid, with the name itself coming from the given name "Gil" and the god "Thor" (though, spoken like the archiac "Tor" pronounciation).

Didn't know where else to put this that people here would see it, but since the above news was put in this thread, I figured I might as well share this here since it is a similar revelation.

Y'all know that big bad evil dude from Transformers Zone with the weird name?

Image

Well, like with Gilthor above, we FINALLY know what his name means! Masumi Kaneda revealed on Twitter that his name is a combination of the words "violence", "giant", "Gigantis" (an alternate English name for Godzilla), and "jaguar". He's a violent, gigantic, ferocious predator, he's "Violengiguar"!

Kaneda also wanted him to have a long name, バイオレンジャイガー, like how long the word "Transformer" is when written in Japanese: トランスフォーマー

Had to do a lot of name updating on the TF wiki did ya Sabre ;) . Anyway, that is pretty cool. Of course I've been calling him Violenjiger for so long (also it doesn't help that I think of one of Gamera's foes (Named Jiger). I'll probably still call him that, although I recognize and respect the creators official translation/pronunciation....and all this a little more than 6 months after Viz officially translates that name in the English version of the Transformers Manga volume 3. . Now I feel like I've got my own "Revenge of the Jedi" poster. I mean I don't know what VIz' track record is of going back and correcting things if any of their manga is reprinted to correct translation errors, but it's still kind of neat.

At least they knew about Githor in time when translating the first manga volume ;)
