But he was the first one to have it as a bigger part of his color scheme, the purple (which most of the time is navy blue anyways) on 2007 Barricade were only on minor small details of the character.

The aligned versions used purple on a lot more parts as a secondary color.

It's not cheap if it's intended to be a reference to this:

Cheap would of been a straight up redeco of Prowl with no new parts or head and no new paint layouts, which this Barricade has even if it's obvious their planned for a Smokescreen reuse at a later time.

You'll be waiting a while as I suspect he's part of next year's line ;) so maybe SDCC?

But that's where it comes from originally and yeah most of the toys have it purple (as I mentioned on a previous page, including 2007 Deluxe, Robot Replicas, DotM Deluxe, Human Alliance) though the MPM uses a bright blue. So yeah very often the main colours on Barricade toys have been Black and white for cop car with purple/blue details on body and gold details on face in robot mode. Me having to buy paint to colour those details on my Studio Series figure to make it more screen accurate means it's definitely part of his colour scheme. :P
The mobile game uses a purple/blue too. Not as purple as some, but definitely not the blue of the MPM.

That design in the drawing is lazy and cheap too. There's no good reason for Barricade to resemble Prowl in robot mode. This is just Hasbro not bothering to design and produce a new unique mold when they can just change the colour scheme of an already existing one and not even do a new head to distinguish it and just because that Guido person drew a pic of it that way doesn't make it any less cheap. Being a redeco of boring Prowl is not worthy of the bad cop (as opposed to the poor forgettable Micromaster) Barricade name

No need to apologise. Is me who should say sorry. I should have looked up how to spell his name properly. This be what happens when I'm doing too many things at once and feeling a bit overwhelmed. I know he's a popular artist who's done a lot of TF stuff. Not one of my faves but he's done some great work.
*checks*
Ok it's Guido Guidi
Guido Guidi
Guido Guidi
It's the same name twice but change o to i. O and I. Like OI! That's how I'm gonna remember it. :)

I'mma shush now and get on with other stuffs I gotta get done. Have a good day. :D

I do think it should be noted, though, that something done with less effort is not inherently "cheaper" or "lazier", especially when, like in the case of Guidi's G1 character model-style Barricade, it was something that was done as a fun "what if?" exercise.

I, for one, also enjoy its translation into an actual figure partly because I do kinda enjoy the whole "stock body-types" thing as an in-universe reason for identical bodies between characters, and like when it's actually explicitly incorporated into fiction in some form (like in Animated), although dislike when it's fully tied into faction (aside from the occasional specific one, usually Seekers), which is, again, another reason I enjoy this.

Barricade has always been evil Prowl in design even the 2007 version.

Door wings, hood chest, forehead crest, back of the car as legs.

It's likely a movie Prowl would of looked similar to Barricade but with less brutish arms and more heroic face.

This concept art shows it more

So there is a biases there.

If you think about it, Reflector is still short packed. If you consider you need 3 in order to create it's most famous mode, then Reflector is only packed 1 in a case. Most collectors are going to pick up all three as soon as they see them.

Barricade is cool and fun. Would much rather see repaints like that than the mega predictable stuff like Bluestreak in this case.

The head's also a weird hill to die on, to me. There are four deluxe movie Barricade toolings. Swap it out.

On a lighter note I think we're up to about a dozen different users that have posted Guidi Barricade  Guessing at this point it isn't gonna change anyone's mind, which is fine I just find it kinda funny.

Personally, I would have preferred them to make figures based on Don Figueroa's designs over Guidi's.

They did a Don Figuera design in this very line, from the same comic you just posted:

That's Brunt's robot mode.

Indeed. But that is just one (it's not like Brunt or Centurion had a rabid fanbase screaming for a new figure) I mean all of them. The more bulky and robotic designs he drew in Stormbringer, The Gathering/Ascending etc technically would look more Pre-Earth G1 than anyone else's.

I'd be on board for a big ol Thunderwing, some cool Pretender character designs in there too iirc.

Sure those are cool, and i would be down for them. But I feel its stuff we can still get in the future, so I am not sad of what we have gotten so far either.

You know what, his style would really improve on some designs in need of a modern makeover: Car Robots and Unicron Trilogy. They were bigger, more mechanical in their aesthetic. Less "People in robot suits".

Note, when I talk about Car Robots designs, I'm not talking about the Beast Wars redecos, nor the G1 equivalents.

Stormbringer Thunderwing could really work for the armor up gimmick that Shockwave does

Thunderwing would be fun as it means they would have to fully recreate his mega pretender gimmick
