What's funny, Webz, is in a conversation I was having with Cobotron and carytheone the other day I mentioned "The more I look at MP-44, the more I hear 'The Touch' playing in my head." And I hate it and love it for it!! I don't WANT to spend this much money on an MP Optimus Prime, but why wouldn't I want to complete the set of MP1 (TRU version), MP10 (first TRU version) and now MP44?!

Don't bother getting him, the overcomplicated transformation will drive the song right out of your head.

My point was that overly complex transformations don't mesh with that scene. And don't belong on toys of G1 Optimus in general IMO.

You missed your opportunity to quote Unicron speaking to Megatron.

"The point is, you are a fool!"  To which I would've replied, "Let this mark the end of the MP-44 wars.."

That movie, it's all things to me. Much like Breath of the Wild. I've found over the years that you can't put a price on nostalgia, and I think Takara might capitalize on that satisfaction now.

You are correct in that an overly complicated transformation may not lend itself to that scene, but OptimusTimelord will make it look spectacular!

Oh I'll go to Canada and get this if TRU gets it, and some delicious poutine!!

Or I'll just ask WJ or Shaj to use their sneaky coupons and somehow make shipping less expensive. Which won't happen.

For **** sake Zelda WE GET IT You don't like MP-44. You don't have to like MP-44. Nobody is trying to force you to like MP-44. That horse has nothing left for you to beat out of it so just let it be. Some people clearly like it, some people clearly are buying it so stop trying to shame those of us who fall into those categories.

EB Games to get Masterpiece MP-44 Optimus Prime Ver 3 in Canada

Hasbro will be distributing Takara's Masterpiece MP-44 Optimus Prime Ver 3 in Canada through EB Games. The price is $600 CAD before taxes. While the price is high, the fact that this is at EB games means that there is a chance some fans could get this for much cheaper due to trade ins. The release date is August 30, 2019, which leads to believe that the release date of the same toy on Entertainment Earth may be wrong. This toy should be avalable at the end of August across the planet. The listing where you can preorder the item is here.

Ouch 600 eh? Does that work out the same or more expensive then the American price after conversion? Also Scram, what are you planning on trading in to lower that price

If you have a Platinum membership, you usually get 10% off the price. The old lady's membership finally comes in handy! Yes!
Hopefully, by the time this comes out, the price will drop to a more realistic level...

Not sure if it's an option for Canada, but Amazon JP is the best option for the US.

Its an option and the best one. We do of course have to pay an extra 50$ more than the US for duty.

Yeah but $50 when it comes to Masterpiece is pretty negligible right?

Then again I did just get MPM-05 because it was $50 cheaper than normal...

I may never, ever buy that thing. However, I just want to be reassured that if by some freak accident I have the cash and the will to buy that ludicrously expensive Optimus,

WILL I BE ABLE TO BUY IT IN A QUEBEC E.B GAMES STORE?

HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM?????????????
(Also, screw you, Toys R Us.)

With all of the talk about Prime's truck mode and if it's realistic (which by definition doesn't mean real or even real-referenced) or not, nobody seemed to look at a more obvious reference point:

Image

There are a lot of similarities in the colors and how they're laid out and not only found on the cartoon model (unpainted grab bars and wipers), but also has the same unrealistic over sized rivets (real rivets are much smaller, even on MP-10 and MPM-4). And think about it, MPs so far have striven for two types of accuracy: cartoon or toy, so when an alt mode can't be based on something in the real world then they're either going to go for cartoon or toy accuracy. I look at MP-44's alt mode as a cross between the G1 toy and the cartoon and think they did a pretty good job of it.

As for the fuel tanks, yeah, they aren't great and covered with a lot of stuff, but they were square on MP-10 as well. In both cases it was a compromise for the bot mode that I don't think it hurts the truck mode any.

I think it does on MP-44. Yeah, the tanks on MP-10 are boxy, but they're still 3D. The ones on MP-44.. ugh. They end up looking more like flat panels than anything else and it just looks stupid as hell to me.
And I reiterate that dumbing the appearance down to the limits of the original toys and the cartoon is a step in the wrong direction, as is the overuse of faux parts in a foolhardy attempt to capture cartoon proportions that were never consistently drawn in the first place.

Another MP Convoy/Prime, this time a little more cartoon-accurate. I wonder if they’re going to make one that’s accurate to his original G1 toy next like they did with Megatron. :-?

Maybe it's a perception thing? I look at the fuel tanks and I see them as being full size, but covered. My brain just assumes they extend past what I can see. To me that's a fine illusion to use.

As far as cartoon accuracy goes, don't forget that this is the same company that painted up Hot Rod to look like an animation error from a season they didn't even initially get until years later. Personally the attempt at animation "accuracy" is everything I've ever wanted in a Transformers line since I was a kid in the '80s. For me the shift in direction for the MP line from toy accuracy to cartoon accuracy is the best thing to ever happen to the Transformers franchise, despite the required sacrifices in the transformation. As much as I like MP-44 I actually wish the truck mode went FURTHER and removed the rivets and gave him big square headlights (wipers optional).

To each their own.
