Thanks to
Gizmodo, we now have the reveal of the SDCC Transformers set. And it is not a blinged out Predaking (or Trypticon). Instead it is a gold redeo of Studio Series Bumblebee and.... the first US release of Dial and Zaur. These last two were Japanese exclusive casette bots which transformed into Dinosaurs. These same molds will be used in this set to make Dairu and Uruaz, which are redecos. We have a comparison below and you can see more of the original casettes
here.
They set's packaging is made to look like a giant mix tape. The set will be available at Hasbro's booth at SDCC for $60 and it will later be available on Hasbro Toy Shop.
Check the images below and let us know what you think!

If I'm honest, a forest battle 4 pack would be better. Though I have a feeling that we'll get a metallic paint Predaking.

Oooooh! I dig it!
Although $60 is a lot for a repaint of a figure I already have with 2 cassettes who look cool but don't go with anything I have.
I do think this is what Bee will look like at the end of the movie though, if that's the case I just might buy another SS Bumblebee and paint it to look like this, doesn't look like it'd be too difficult.

Bumblebee has finally fallen so low that they have to pack in other exclusives to get people to buy him. The oversaturation is real.

A quite note about the names:
Dairu: The original translation, "Dial" is actually an error as the original kana, ダイル, read as "Dairu", something the SDCC set got right ("Dial" has an extra ヤ,
ya). It's from either "reptile" or "crocodile", resulting in "Dile" as a name.
Uruaz: "Zauru" spelled backwards

Simply from "dinosaur", with "Saur" as alternate translation.
Color me surprised with this, I half expected the molds to be lost! Can we get Graphy and Noize too?

Says you. I'd really like that gold studio Bumblebee and would be happy to just sell on the Cassettes if I was lucky enough to get this set.
Pains me they didn't fold his lower wing pieces down away from the doors for the promo pic though.

Anybody notice the Studio Series number 19 on the packaging? So, where are the other 4 studio series figures? That being 15,16,17,18? Could those be the code-named Greaser Gang, Techie Team, Jock Squad and Toilet Troop?

Now that is something I was not expecting, I was certain it was just going to follow other traditions and be Predaking but this is a nice surprise. Now why is it they decided to give the Dino tapes a release?

Makes sense, in that it doesn't make sense. They threw SS Thundercracker into the mix, with an already used number with zero regard. I don't think they care

This set is truly bizarre. I love it, but damn, that's what I call left field. Kinda bugs me how one of the tapes is candy and the other is solid. And there's two more missing.

Didn't the cassettes combine to form Legout?
Still I would have preferred the cassettes without the Bumblebee, not that I could ever get it

This is so weird, i have many questions, but I don't think I will get answers to them. This set is nice though, if only I would be able to get it.

Awesome. Just awesome.
I guess there's an extra Bumblebee in this set, whatevs.
Would love to see more of these G1 cassettes like this, especially the other two molds as well as Zaur (or whoever) in the original colors - but also Dairu in a matching clear maybe? Either way, I think fans have a bigger appetite for oddball Deployer recolors than Hasbro realizes. Stick those in a blind box assortment and watch a Transformers blind box assortment actually sell for once

it says volume 1. this makes me wonder if there will be a volume 2.
also it reminds me of Guardians of the Galaxy. and while you are here, whats your favorite song from the soundtrack. could be from either the first one or the second one

I wonder, will these cassette bots (although one is reassigned as a "con"), be featured in the Bumblebee movie?

I think you might be right, though that would also mean these are going to be shared with Amazon, too. As soon as I saw "Retro Rock Garage" on the box I instantly thought Greaser Gang. Could it be that the other four will contain Graphy and Noise, Grand Slam and Raindance, and Beastbox and Squawktalk?
Who knew these molds were even still viable? What the heck, why didn't you reissue these years ago, Takara Tomy? And finally do the Seacons in the right colors while you're at it!

At the very most, I'm guessing their colour schemes will be based on cassettes from the movie, but I don't think we'll see Uruaz and Dairu themselves.
Lucky Logician wrote:Bumblebee has finally fallen so low that they have to pack in other exclusives to get people to buy him. The oversaturation is real.
I don't know what it's like elsewhere, but there are little to no Bumblebees left in any toy store where I live. The only Bumblebee figure still shelfwarming is the TLK one-step changer (and even then he's outnumbered by Grimlock), all the others are gone. There are plenty of Twinfernos, Hot Rods, Grimlocks, Soundwaves and even Megatrons, but not many Bumblebees. So as much as we all hate him, I'd take that as a small indicator that Bumblebee toys
do sell.

No they didn't. Thundercracker was 09. Nobody else used that number in Hasbro's SS line.
Takara's SS-09 was indeed Jazz, but they did not release Thundercracker at all. And switched the numbering for Brawl and Megatron. So Brawl ended up with the same number 12 in both lines, but for different reasons, and Megatron is #11.
In Hasbro's line release, The only 09 is Thundercracker. Jazz got number 10, and then everything else from there.
If this is Hasbro's #19. Then there should de 4 more SS released before it. Which makes the 4 unknown Amazon listings a pretty solid possibility.
With that said, its very interesting indeed they decided to release these cassettes. Instead of other non Japanese only cassettes in this set.

It's even weirder than that since one is an Autobot and the other is a Decepticon. What were they thinking?
Also noticed they retooled the limbs to remove the metal rivets, replacing them with metal pegs and pins. Probably the specialized machines required to do the riveting don't exist any more.

Funny, I looked at my Transmetal Waspinator and wondered why we don't get figures with those rivets anymore. Not that it especially bothers me in any way but it is interesting.
