We've got a piece of Transformers history to share with you today. Fellow Seibertron user Sabrblade has brought our attention to a listing on Amazon.com for a box art prototype for the Beast Wars Microverse Orcanoch playset!.

Microverse was Hasbro's short lived rival to Galoob, who had the Micro Machines toyline. There was only two transformers Microverse sets made, the aforementioned Orcanoch which was part of the Maximals and the Predacon Arachnid. Each set came with two mini figures as well as the transforming base.

This listing shows the box art of Orcanoch as it was being prototyped and has annotations on it which would have been put on there during the design process.

Here's the product description as it is on Amazon.

Amazon wrote:This listing is for a Transformers Beast Wars Orcanoch Killer Whale Maximals Playset box art prototype. These two pieces are Cromalins for the artwork that was used on the front of the box. They are on thick glossy paper and are full sized and not cropped like the box art. One is 9x12 the other is a tough bigger, both show some scratching and corner wear from use and both have marked changes and notations on them. These are amazing one of a king pieces for an already rare playset. One piece is marked August 1996 the other September 1996. A great piece of Transformers history If you have any questions please ask.

The seller has the item listed for $219.99.

Man, imagine how different the show might have been if we had gotten more underwater-based characters earlier on the show before Depth Charge entered the fray.

More like Mighty Max. Non-transforming mini figures with a playset. Despite being an aquatic set he came with Optimus Primal and Tarantulas.

Also, I've never looked that closely, but the art features Razorclaw, Cybershark, Claw-Jaw, some green and blue guy I can't recognize, and then decidedly non-aquatic Armordillo and Airrazor. You didn't have to try filling all of the positions in the art, and with characters that aren't even in the set.

BTW, TFWiki says that isn't Armordillo, but it definitely is. The blue stripe was used in his character art, but wasn't used on the figure so most likely the art was the source.

I think that note was referring to the green guy behind Cybershark. I've just edited the note to make that more clear. ;)^

Oh wow. Pretty neat. I think I remember seeing this exact copy for sale, maybe a few years back. Makes me wonder how many people it's belonged to before now.
